Here’s the first trailer for the brand new movie in the Bourne franchise known as The Bourne Legacy! It stars Jeremy Renner and it look awesome and we cannot wait to see it!

The movie stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac and is directed by Tony Gilroy.

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

Coming at you like a geeky avalanche The Avengers looks set to be the first big winner in the movie season I’m going to call Superhero Summer (for this post at least).

If you’re a Marvel fan then you’ll have seen the teaser for this teaser already with some new footage of our heroes fighting intergalatic nasties and now here’s the whole thing.

The whole gang is here with Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo, of whom we get a better look here), Hawkeye (new Bourne man Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson), the eyepatched Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Agent Coulson (Clark Cregg), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

Whichever way you look at it there’s a pretty fine cast there and it’ll take a director with an eye for the ensemble to tame it. Step forward Joss Whedon.

The Avengers, which is set to be released on 27th April, begins when Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as SHIELD, finds himself in need of a team after an unexpected enemy threatens global safety. Last week, we heard that Joss Whedon, Tom Hiddleston, and Clark Gregg would be hosting a Global Twitter Chat for Marvel’s upcoming The Avengers tonight. We also heard that with the chat, we’d be getting a teaser for the film’s upcoming TV spot at this weekend’s Superbowl, and we now have that awesome video to share with you!

The TV spot itself is set to be a thirty-second video, and this ten-second tease (seventeen seconds all in, technically) is just so damn good, with some brilliant new footage that we didn’t get in the ridiculously awesome first trailer at the end of last year.

The marketing campaign is well and truly underway for Joss Whedon’s upcoming The Avengers, which brings together all of the awesome characters we’ve loved watching over the past few years in their separate movies for one epic superhero blockbuster.

Just last night, we put up some great images and specs of Tony Stark’s $9m. car that’s on display at Sundance to promote the film, and today we’ve got more brilliant stills to share with you. Marvel have released five hi-res stills, with thanks to ComicBookMovie.com for the tip-off, three of which we’ve seen before just a few days ago, but only as scans from Empire Magazine.

We also heard talk yesterday about the possibility of Captain America 2 going into production this year following Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, as well as the S.H.I.E.L.D. movie potentially following those three. Marvel are certainly firing on all cylinders, and doing one hell of a job at it too.

And as usual with these new images, you can click to enlarge. I especially love the second one of Samuel L. Jackson/Nick Fury at the head of the table, staring down the camera. And Jeremy Renner’s veins look a little bit like they’re about to explode in the fourth shot. Awesome stuff.

On the off chance you’ve not been following Marvel’s superhero films in recent years, here’s a quick run-down for you: They’ve been amazing. We’ve had five so far in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe: Iron Man in 2008, followed by The Incredible Hulk that year, then Iron Man 2 in 2010, followed by Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger last year.

We’re getting the highly anticipated The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon, on 27^th April this year, and both Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 are set to go into production to be released on 3^rd May, 2013 and 15^th November, 2013, respectively.

Word now comes via Collider that Marvel’s Untitled 2014 release dates, scheduled for 4^th April and 16^th May, could be filled by the Captain America sequel and a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, which would just be awesome to get in the space of a month and a half.

Speaking to IMDb Television, Neal McDonough (who played Dum Dum Dugan in the first film) had the following to say of the Captain America sequel:

“They’re planning [to go into production] for the end of this year, because Marvel does one film at a time. So they’re going to do Thor 2 and as soon as Thor has wrapped, they’ll do Cap 2. Hopefully right after that, we’ll jump into Nick Fury because that’s the one I’m looking forward to more than anything.”

That Nick Fury movie is what is expected to be the S.H.I.E.L.D. movie that Marvel have in the works. Of course, it has to be taken with a pinch of salt, both because McDonough might not be privy to all of Marvel’s information, and because he’s only hopeful rather than sure, but it would definitely be interesting to get Iron Man 3, followed by Thor 2 and Captain America 2, and then another round of everyone back together for S.H.I.E.L.D. as they will be in The Avengers.

If Captain America 2 is set to take one of the 2014 releases but the S.H.I.E.L.D. movie isn’t, there are plenty of other possibilities that it could be, with Marvel’s Kevin Feige having already spoken about doing solo films for both Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). And other films like Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, and The Inhumans and Guardians of the Galaxy are also being developed, so there are a number of possibilities.

At the very least, I think the Captain America sequel makes a lot of sense for one of those 2014 dates. We got the first Thor and Captain America films within a few months of each other last year, and the scheduled release dates could well see the same thing happening at the end of next year and the start of the year after. What comes next, we can only hope for. Provided The Avengers does as well as we’re all expecting it to, we’ll no doubt have The Avengers 2 to look forward to somewhere down the line as well. It was only a few days ago that we got to see some brilliant new promo images for The Avengers released in celebration of the Chinese New Year. We’ve now got some more excellent images of the Marvel superheroes as four of them grace the cover of Empire, in a four-cover issue, giving you a choice of Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Captain America to add to your collection.

Not only that, but there are some great scans from inside the issue, which is released this Thursday, coming via ComingSoon.net and Collider, as well as snippets from their interview with Kevin Feige, Marvel’s President of Production, and Tom Hiddleston, who will play Loki, on some of the things we can and can’t expect from writer-director Joss Whedon’s upcoming superhero blockbuster.

Hiddleston said of his impending villainous role,

“He knows who he is now, and what his powers are. In order for The Avengers to come together, Loki has to be more menacing, and all of his malevolence is founded in a completely delusional dream.”

And when Feige was asked about Loki’s army,

“Who said they were aliens?… It’s not Skrulls, I’ve been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we’re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.”

And for some time now, rumours have been circling that Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving in Captain America: The First Avenger, would be returning in Whedon’s film, but Feige seems to clearly put that rumour to bed:

“Was [Red] Skull vaporised at the end of [Captain America: The First Avengers], or thrust into another realm? That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he’s not in this one.”

Marvel have shown that they’re clearly invested in continuing this recent slate of superhero films, with Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and hopefully The Avengers 2, all currently on the line-up, so there’ll be plenty of room for Weaving to reprise his role in the near future.

Joss Whedon’s upcoming The Avengers is by far one of the most highly anticipated films of 2012. We’ve been seeing plenty of great things from the project in recent months, with the mind-blowing first trailer arriving back in October last year. Some brilliant new promo images have now been released for the film, courtesy of The Borneo Post via ComingSoon.net. For six days starting tomorrow, these red envelopes (which Wikipedia tells me are also known as hóngbāo, Ang Pao, Lai See, Sae Bae Don, and Lì Xì in a variety of Asian languages) will be given out to cinemagoers in a handful of Asian theatres, in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

The plot is being kept fairly under wraps, as is to be expected, but it’s a safe bet that it’s going to be nothing short of immense. Whedon can do no wrong in my eyes, and I can’t wait to see his take on bringing together all the Marvel characters from their recent slate of superhero films.

Following the first image from Universal Pictures’ The Bourne Legacy, Argentinian website Cine 1 have released the first poster from the film which will hit UK cinemas 17th August.

The poster is pretty plain and simple but it’s nice to see the marketing materials for the movie coming out. The only problem that we have is that it isn’t directed by Paul Greengrass and doesn’t star Matt Damon.That said, as I said when the first image came out, maybe this will be a good spin-off in it’s own right and I have faith that it’ll be good! Please let it be good! We are warned to ‘prepare for the unexpected’ so that’s what I plan to do!

Instead we see Jeremy Renner in the lead role as a new character Aaron Cross with director Tony Gilroy at the helm. The movie also stars Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, and Stacy Keach.

I know this is just an image of what could be Jeremy Renner going out on the town but no people, this is the first image of Renner in the fourth movie in the ‘Bourne’ franchise and this time it’s called The Bourne Legacy. We heard a little while ago that this new movie is going to sit alongside the other Bourne movies when it comes to timeline rather than being a prequel or sequel which may well be a nice change but time will tell. You won’t find Paul Greengrass directing this one and it won’t star Matt Damon but this time Renner will be helmed by Tony Gilroy and co-star alongside Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen and Stacy Keach and I cannot wait. It is the Olympics this year in London, it will also be the place I watch The Bourne Legacy!

Joss Whedon’s upcoming The Avengers is without a doubt one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, and in the past few months, we’ve been treated to plenty of brilliant images, posters, and that all-important first trailer that took the Internet by storm back in October. Truly, it made the film look even more incredible than we all knew it would be.

Earlier this month, we saw some new footage from the film when the German trailer came online, and we’ve now got a bit more to see with the Russian trailer that MSN Russia have put up, via ComingSoon.net. Like the German trailer, it’s very similar to the English language one, but with a few added moments of awesomeness to soak up ahead of its release next spring.

No matter how many times I see Downey, Jr. cut away in mid-air with an instant change of direction in the Iron Man suit, I still love it, and can’t wait to see it once more on the big screen. The Avengers will be with us in 3D on 27^th April next year, which means we’ve got less than four months to prepare ourselves for its awesomeness. Here’s the new trailer to tie you down until then. And if that’s not enough, you can catch up on everything else we’ve seen for the film right here.

For the first 75 minutes or so, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol thumps along, rushing from set piece to set piece so quickly it barely gives the audience time to think. As we crash from a prison escape to a catastrophe at the Kremlin to a vertigo-inspiring sequence in Dubai, there’s little time to think, and the huge leaps in logic that have plagued the franchise from the first film are easily brushed aside.

And then it all falls down.

Somewhere around the 80 minute mark, as the pace slows to actually develop a plot, it becomes clear that nothing really matters. Racing along through the first part of the film, there was little time to develop the characters beyond rough sketches – not a problem at the time because we were so distracted by spectacle. Now, as we have a moment to take stock, it’s painfully apparent that our protagonists are nothing more than ideas and stereotypes.

Almost simeltaneously the holes in the developed-on-the-fly plot begin to rear their heads., and the film becomes a game of Whack-a-Plot-Hole, but we haven’t a mallet to knock them back down. There were a few ridiculous moments that we were carried through early on in the film, but suddenly we’re confronted by the notion that a disgruntled civil servant can hold his own in a series of scraps with an International Super Spy. There’s also an entirely nonsensical reveal involving the movie’s only face-swap that seems to have been held over from an earlirr draft of the script. Not only does it make absolutely no sense within the context its presented, but by the next scene it seems the filmmakers have completely forgotten about it.

All of these factors conspire to pretty much kill the final third of the film. Any engagement and goodwill we had from the earlier section have, by this point, completely abated, and while Cruise, Renner, Pegg and Patton do their very best to charm us through the final scenes, their considerable efforts are wasted. It’s a shame, because they’re all very likeable, and each puts in a solid performance throughout, but to be completely blunt, as we reached the two hour mark, I was hoping they would all be killed so the film would finally end.

That said, the film is far from a disaster, and parts of it, indeed the entire first half are solid, enjoyable and often thrilling action fare. It’s just that when it falls down, it falls hard.

It seems then, that your enjoyment of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol will come down to how much you like the fireworks, and how easily you can forget the nonsense. In that respect, it’s a rather fitting addition to the franchise.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is nearly upon us, and with it the live-action debut of director Brad Bird.

So far his animated efforts, The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Ratatouille have been very nearly flawless, and while you’ll see in our review of the film – due later this week – we had a few issues with it, there are still some great moments.

Yesterday we published our interview with franchise new boy Jeremy Renner, where he talked about collaborating with Tom Cruise to create the character, and revealed that the script evolved during production.

In our interview with Bird we elaborated upon this, and found out how much involvement Cruise and producer JJ Abrahams had on the movie, as well as the effects, both positive and negative of changing the script, and the story, as the film went on.

The fridge is full of sprouts, the pine needles are piling up around the tree, and the once chocolate-packed advent calendar is now nearly empty.

It can mean only one thing. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is nearly upon us.

Recently we got a chance to speak to Jeremy Renner, one of very few actors who can hold his own in an action film with Tom Cruise, and a man who is carving out his own, pretty comfortable niche as the thinking man’s action hero.

On being cast in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

I was meeting with JJ for Super 8, and really wanted to work with him, but didn’t feel in my heart that the part was there for me. I didn’t know how to grab on to it. I had to go talk to him about what a big fan I am of him as a human being, because he’s such a great guy, and then as a director, and then still say, I don’t think I can do the movie. Before I really open my mouth about it he says, ‘look, I want to hear what you think about the script and all these things, and blah, blah, blah. I’d love for you to do this movie but, what do you think about Mission: Impossible?’ I’m like, ‘well, they’re great movies. What about it?’, He’s like, ‘I’m producing another one. Tom brought it up. What do you think? Do you want to meet him?’, I’m like, ‘OK’, ‘When do you want to do it?’ ‘What are they doing now?’

So I went and met Tom and Brad Bird, the director, and [Bryan] Burk, one of the producers, and just sort of pitched the story idea. It was a very loose meeting, not unlike this in here in this room, and half the time I just saw their mouths moving, and thinking, ‘I can’t believe this is happening right now’, and Tom’s sitting there pitching me this movie, and why I should be in it, and then Brad Bird saying his idea. I didn’t really say anything, I said, ‘thank you for bringing me in, this is awesome. I appreciate it. Talk to you guys later. Peace out.’ I skipped out of there; I’m like ‘this is awesome’, then I went home.

Right when I got home, I’m sitting at the bar at home, and Tom Cruise calls me, which was also another surreal sort of thing. I wish it said ‘Tom Cruise’ on the caller ID. It’s a strange thing when Tom Cruise is calling your house saying, ‘Do you want to do this movie’. At that point, I’d made the decision because of things they said in the room, to do it. So I told Tom straight away, ‘there’s no reason not to do this’. I’m not normally a big fan of saying yes to a movie where there’s not a script yet, because I don’t know what I can bring, or have a take that might be interesting, that maybe they didn’t think of. I feel like I can’t really give you anything. So I’m just going on the Mission track record, which is amazing, and Brad Bird, who’s fantastic, and getting to work with Tom. So there was no reason to say no.

On the script evolving during principal photography

There’s a lot of changing, shifting, a lot of moving parts on this movie, especially with the script, which I wasn’t very familiar with. In JJ’s world, coming from the TV world, he’s able to manifest things like that very quickly and on the fly, not something that I’m used to. Tom was also used to it. So, a little terrifying, but I was trusting the director and Tom to keep the story strong and alive, and I just tried to do my part.

The massive set pieces in the movie were never going to change, like the Burj Khalifa, the Kremlin, all these sorts of things. There’s a strong outline for the movie from where I was standing. I think from their end as producers and writers, they had a lot of other intel that I wasn’t privy to. So when they’d get a script, they were hesitant of giving it out because they were making so many changes so fast. So we started shooting the big set pieces that weren’t going to change – Burj Khalifa was one month, and another month we’re in Prague and we’re shooting all this other stuff, so you just kind of have to entrust in the director and Tom, and him knowing the franchise so well, and I’ll do the best I can to serve the story and create a character there somehow.

On playing characters that offer humour is otherwise serious films

If I’m going to do comedy, or something funny, I’m glad it’s coming out of character truth or elevated circumstances – an everyman in unrealistic circumstances I suppose. It’s not being comfortable in that at all. I’m comfortable in the truth, comfortable in something that’s honest. That’s all that matters to me.

On the Steve McQueen Biopic he will be producing

I think it would be really interesting. I think he’s a fascinating character. There’s a script out there that was brought to my attention. I thought it was an amazing opportunity. I wasn’t a big fan of the script. If you’re going to do somebody so iconic I thought it was a little middle of the road, but when I met the director he had these images, and the images are the story I want to be a part of, that’s the guy I want to understand. Everybody knows Steve McQueen is the guy, the stunt guy, and jumping the fence, and all those famous stories. Let’s get to know him as a human, and what that’s like to be in his shoes. Let’s drag an audience into that world. That’s where we’re trying to go. James Gray is writing the script right now and I’m really anxious to read it. I’m supposed to get it in the next week or two, so kind of see where it’s at. If it all works out it’ll be an absolute treat to do. It’ll be a great challenge.

Missio: Impossible Ghost Protocol is out in UK cinemas on the 26th of December.

Yesterday was a pretty big day for some of next year’s biggest and most anticipated films. We got two great teaser trailers for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, the first trailer for Wrath of the Titans, an exclusive image from Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, as well as the first full-length trailer for The Dark Knight Rises (which was, expectedly, epic).

And last but by far not least, we also got some new footage from Joss Whedon’s upcoming The Avengers in the film’s German trailer, and following on from that, Marvel have put out two awesome new images that we’ve got to share with you, via ComingSoon.net.

Given what director and co-writer Joss Whedon did with a modest budget of just under $40m. on Serenity, one of my favourite action sci-fi films of all time, I cannot wait to see his vision for The Avengers with its budget north of $200m. Along with everybody else, I’m expecting it to be one of the best films we can look forward to next year.

As you’re no doubt all aware, the film will be bringing together all of our favourite characters from the Marvel Universe that we’ve been seeing in all of their films in recent years, including Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr., with Paul Bettany returning as JARVIS), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlet Johannson), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Agent Coulson (Clark Cregg), and Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

We got the incredible first trailer for The Avengers back in October, and have seen plenty of other great stuff from the film before and after, all of which you can catch up on right here. The film will be hitting the big screen on 27^th April next year, so if you haven’t already committed the date to memory, I highly recommend you do so now. No sign of a Dark Knight Rising, but who needs it when there’s a little bit more of The Avengers ala Joss Whedon in the offing today as a new German trailer is released.

It is similar to the trailer we’ve seen already but there is a little new footage in there which makes this a must-see for Whedonites and Marvel fans alike.

The cast of the new movie includes Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Jenny Agutter, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Bettany and Robert Downey J which, when you think about it, is a pretty fine cast.

Marvel have just sent us these nice new banners for The Avengers. Yes they very similar to the US ones that we saw a month or two ago but this time we have lost the big A on the posts so we can see the characters in all their glory! Absolutely love this poster for Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol that comes courtesy of IGN. It’s designed to look like the tallest building in the world – Burj Khalifa that we’ve become accustomed to seeing Tom Cruise swinging off in all the trailers. In this new poster which looks like it could come from someone like Olly Moss (and as from the comments section we now know it wasn’t him!), we see the building turned into a lit fuse which will no doubt self destruct any second!

The movie hits UK cinemas on Boxing Day but premieres have been taking place all over the world for Tom Cruise’s fourth installment in the Mission Impossible franchise. The premiere in Dubai is currently live streaming for all to see so scroll down and enjoy!
