Last night was the first ever HeyUGuys event and it went off with a bang! We teamed together with the amazing people from Who’s Jack Magazine to bring you a Q&A with the cast and filmmakers from brand new British horror / slasher movie, Demons Never Die at the Jameson Apartment in Soho which is in place for the duration of the London Film Festival.

Jon did a fantastic job anchoring the Q&A session which was attended by Director, Arjun Rose, Producer Rhian Williams from Exile and cast members, Jason Maza (who also produced), Shanika Warren-Markland and Andrew Ellis. The film was shot in just 18 days and from the trailer, it looks like a slick, gritty and  we can’t wait to see the finished article when it’s released October 28th.

Arjun spoke about how John Carpenter movies and the Scream franchise affected his writing of Demons Never Die and how the idea came from an idea he had rather than a fully developed script. In the end Arjun wrote 1 page for the movie which the production company Exile loved and asked him to continue developing the script into the completed movie.

The cast also praised Arjun as a first time director for the way in which he put all the cast at ease and has made such a great film. Shanika summed it up nicely saying:

“Arjun was always very chilled and very calm and that helped make the set and the whole environment a very nice place to be.”

Jason Maza talks us through his his experince of working on the movie and with Arjun specifically:

“Arjun was very much a calming influence. For someone who’s a  first time director, he knew exactly how he wanted it to be. He’d come from the school of thought that prepearation is key and he’d done a lot of work. he was completely prepared and never showed that he was struggling to us. The conditions were not always easy with rain, snow in the middle of a scene!

Andrew Ellis tells us what he saw in the script which brought him on board:

“I saw that British twist in the fact that  in other movies, often you don’t get to know the characters until the third sequel but in this, within the 90 minutes, you know those characters and everyone can relate to at least one of them. For me, it was a sensitive subject but the way that was dealt with in the script, it’s the way people find that friendship and a way in which they cope with it.”

Producer Rhian Williams spoke about how the idea first came about and what we can except along with the fact that the way it’s all fallen into place is a little unconventional:

“Arjun started talking about the idea and I started thinking it was great and was the one we wanted to back and I said ‘let’s go for it’. I spoke to the board and they asked for more details and I asked Arjun to write script. He started off giving us one page and the film started off as a micro-budget movie for us and then the concept started to grow. The one page that he gave us was complete genius so we were confident hat the other 91 pages would be absolutely belting which of course they were.

Idris (Elba) came on board, we got a fantastic cast and we got more confident that this film was going to be a huge hit. The soundtrack is fantastic – Universal Music came on board and what we’ve actually managed to package together, sounds very flueky the way it all happened but we got serious about doing this, it all came together very well. It’s been called genre-busting but I think what we’ve ended up with is a hugely commercial British film. TF1 have picked it up internationally, it’s screening at AFM in a couple of weeks and we’ve already got international buyers.”

You could really see the family bond that had formed from this tight knit group of actors and filmmakers at the event and this is just small section of the wide cast which also includes Robert Sheehan, Reggie Yates, Tulisa Contostavlos, Emma Rigby, Femi Oyeniran, Jennie Jacques and Jacob Anderson. We’re very excited to see what heights Demons Never Die is taken to and we were so privileged to have many of the great cast and crew along to our event last night.

Next Monday, to coincide with the London Film Festival, HeyUGuys are teaming up with our friends at Who’s Jack and Jameson to host a rather special night. On Monday the 17th of October HeyUGuys will be taking over the Jameson Apartment on Greek Street for an evening of drinks and demons with a Q&A for the film Demons Never Die. There are many good reasons to venture into the capital during the month of October and from 12th to the 27th the BFI’s 55th London Film Festival is in full cinematic swing and we’ve got an exciting announcement for a very special evening we are hosting along with Jameson and our very good friends at Who’s Jack.

On Monday the 17th of October HeyUGuys will be taking over the Jameson Apartment on Greek Street for an evening of drinks and demons with a Q&A for the film Demons Never Die with confirmed guests writer/director Arjun Rose, producer Jo Podmore and star Jason Maza with more guests waiting to confirm. It’ll be an excellent chance to put your questions to the creative team behind the film and mingle with the cast and crew in the bar afterwards.

The good people at the Jameson Cult Film Club are starting up their series of screenings once again and we’ve got the details of their forthcoming event in London.

Bryan Singer’s The Usual Suspects is coming back to the big screen to launch the latest season of the Cult Film Club and Jameson have chosen a fitting location to bring you the tall tale of Keyser Söze and the merry band of crooks whose last job is wrapped up in the mystery of a massacre at a boat yard.

Suitably the screenings on the 5th, 6th and 7th of October are taking place at the Trinity Buoy Wharf, 64 Orchard Places London E14 OJY with a boat that leaves from Westminster Pier at 18.30 that takes you to the screening.

On this lovely evening, after filming the glamorous arrivals on the red carpet at the Jameson Empire Awards in Mayfair, London, I headed back to the press room where we were greeted with the winners from the night.

It started off with a select few of the cast and crew from Four Lions, all very excitable with their award for Best Comedy:

HeyUGuys Kelly: Did you expect the film to be such a huge success?

(Producer) Barry Ryan: No, it’s been amazing. I knew it was a good film when I went to my local pub and someone offered me 3 on pirate. I thought ‘I’ve turned a corner as a producer.’ I’m in with Harry Potter!

After this I was greeted with Noel Clarke, who seemed to be having a lot of interest from the press, and totally loved our name:

Noel: HEEEY YOOOU GUYS!

HeyUGuys Kelly: Hey! How are you enjoying tonight?

Noel: Yeah, it’s awesome. Having a really good time,

HeyUGuys Kelly: What have you been up to recently?

Noel: Errm, sitting at home. No no, I’ve been writing.

HeyUGuys Kelly: Anything you can talk about?

Noel: Yeah, yeah. A couple of things, I’ve written a romantic-comedy.

HeyUGuys Kelly: Oh really? Are you going to be in it?

Noel: Yeah, if it happens. I’ve also written a horror.

HeyUGuys Kelly: Okay! Are they all going to be British based?

Noel: Yeah, they’re all British. They’re bubbling, they’re bubbling. There’s a couple of films coming out this summer. One’s a drama… Not what it sounds like. Another one’s called Huge, also not what it sounds like *winks*.

HeyUGuys Kelly: Wow, you’ve been really busy. You going to be enjoying the free alcohol tonight?

Noel: Yeah of course! Well no, I’m not much of a drinker, but what I’ll do is I’ll collect it up and take it home.

Now was the time for our self-proclaimed fan Jane Goldman and Mark Strong, after winning Best British Film:

HeyUGuys Kelly: HeyUGuys again, congratulations! Did you think you had this one in the bag, because you knew how much Empire loved your film?

Jane: Well no, not at all. The great thing about this is that it’s voted by the fans as well.

Mark: I heard that Empire wanted to give the film 6 stars.

Jane: Really?

Mark: Yeah! They loved it so much that they wanted to give it 6 stars.

HeyUGuys Kelly: That’s brilliant. I think it definitely deserved 6 starts. I just wanted to ask you (Mark) about Sinestro. How are you getting into character?

Mark: With a lot of make-up and a lot of CGI.

HeyUGuys Kelly: Are we going to see any photos soon?

Mark: They’ve released something, but it’s all going to be coming out in June. I think that stuff takes a while to get right, they don’t want to release it before it’s ready.

Tom Hiddleston was next to come around, who by the way, is one of the most charming men I’ve ever met:

HeyUGuys Kelly: How are you enjoying your night?

Tom: Yeah, it’s really great. It’s been lots of fun so far.

HeyUGuys Kelly: I just wanted to ask you about the Marvel films. What’s your favourite one?

Tom: Well, I remember being in Sweden for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and went to a cinema as a paying punter not expecting anything, and saw Iron Man. It was fantastic, so entertaining. It’s a lifelong dream come true now I’m playing in one of their films. They’ve created such iconic movies for comic book lovers.

HeyUGuys Kelly: And for people who haven’t seen the film.

Tom: Yeah exactly. They’re just great entertainment.

HeyUGuys Kelly: I also wanted to ask you about Captain America. Have you seen any of it?

Tom: I’ve only seen what the rest of you have seen. I’ve watched all the trailers and was at comic-con so saw a clip there. I have had a sneaky peak at the script…

HeyUGuys Kelly: Is it good?

Tom: It’s awesome! I can’t wait.

HeyUGuys Kelly: Are you going to be going to the after party?

Tom: Of course, what’s the point in coming here otherwise?

From one charming man to another, I then interviewed Tom Felton after Harry Potter won Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy:

HeyUGuys Kelly: How does it feel to have won?

Tom: It’s great. You tend to find that a lot of award ceremonies overlook Harry Potter because it is so big, but to see it get recognised by the public as well is so nice. I could have listed off 100s of people when I went to collect it, and for me who’s not so big in the film to be the representative was so great.

HeyUGuys Kelly: It’s sweet you think you’re not so big, because you play quite a crucial role.

Tom: Yeah I guess, it’s just nice being here.

HeyUGuys Kelly: Was it nice that it was a British award as well?

Tom: Yeah, it was lovely. British cinema is great and it’s great we can support it.

And finally, Eli Roth who was snapped up by as many people as he could be stopped by for a quick chat about his films, after winning Best Horror for The Last Exorcism:

HeyUGuys Kelly: Hi! Congratulations on your award.

Eli: Thanks, it’s so nice to be here again and to have the support.

HeyUGuys Kelly: Does it feel good that it’s a British award as well?

Eli: Oh definitely. There’s something about Britain that allows you to explore more with your films. I tend to do a lot of dialogue based horrors which can be interesting. But I can also do gore based and combine the two in a really interesting way, and get a great response from you guys.

HeyUGuys Kelly: What do you prefer doing, gore or dialogue?

Eli: You can’t beat a bit of gore. You can have so much fun with it and just do whatever you want.

HeyUGuys Kelly: Are you going to be enjoying the party later?

Eli: Of course! I’ve been to a few of these events and the party is the best bit!

After this there was a mad scramble for photos of Colin Firth, Gary Oldman, Keira Knightley and Edgar Wright. Unfortunately they didn’t have time to stop by, but the rest of the night all seemed to run quite smoothly with some great results. The attendees looked just about ready for the whiskey, and I was just about ready for bed.

Ordinarily no one could be in three places at once.  Yet last night HeyUGuys managed to bring you the sights, sounds and results of the Jameson Empire Awards 2010 and still find time to ping across town to the glamorous after-party.  For your award-scrutinising pleasure we have photos from the red carpet, interviews with the attendees and reactions to the night right here on site.  That’s the thing about HeyUGuys…

There’s nothing ordinary about us!

So, you’ve seen the pictures and watched the footage, now it’s time for the party.  Few stars risked the soggy dash from the Grosvenor House Hotel to Soho House – perhaps concerned the rain would extinguish their shine.  Those who braved the precipitation, however, were there to celebrate and a celebration is exactly what the night was.  The beauty of the Jameson Empire Awards is that they are more reflective of cinemagoers taste and last night there was a real consensus that some overlooked films had been given their moment in the spotlight.  There was genuine delight for both Let the Right One In and In the Loop in particular and the atmosphere in the chic interconnecting rooms of Soho House’s second floor was fizzing with expectation as party attendees waited for the award-goers to return.

While nominees’ friends and colleagues staked out the best people watching spots on the sofas bracketing the Circle Bar, drawing room and chill out room, we noticed one particularly lively party at our side.  It was the Sony/Lionsgate team proudly toasting their Harry Brown win.  We were impressed by their passion for the film and touched by their evident delight.  The uniform rows of Jameson cocktails standing to attention at the bars were soon disrupted (and swiftly replenished!) as a rustle of Empire goodie bags announced the arrival of the first winners.  We’ve included some pictures here but as most of the venue was plunged in fashionable pitch darkness we hope you’ll excuse their quality.

On the stairs HeyUGuys caught up with Done in 60 Seconds winner Mark Wong whose unique interpretation of Top Gun had entertained everyone at the Friday night shortlist party.  Mark, in his movie dress whites, was “completely overwhelmed” by the whole experience.  Indeed we can attest that the grin of sheer delight didn’t leave his face all night.  Lina (Let the Right One In) Leandersson too looked overwhelmed and not a little dazzled by it all as she circulated in her lovely flowery frock.

Armando Iannucci was modest but clearly chuffed in the wake of his In the Loop triumph.  Echoing our “about time too” he set the tone for pride in the British award recipients of 2010.  Although we were secretly hoping he would insult us with some custom Malcolm Tucker inspired expletives he was, in fact, charm itself.  Pity really!  Bionic Woman Michelle Ryan – soon to be seen in No Ordinary Trifle with Claire Forlani and Dougray Scott – made no secret of her support for her countrymen, counting Sir Ian McKellen’s speech and Ray Winstone’s win as her highlights of the night.  “It was great to see so many Brits win, really lovely.”  She did also confess a fondness for Avatar so had been happy to see James Cameron’s blue money monster take home the best of the rest.

Richard Coyle (The Libertine, Coupling) shared her sentiments telling us how happy he was at Ian McKellen’s win.  We also had a chance to talk to him about his recent experience on The Prince of Persia.  He confided that the contrast between the “tough, tough, desert shoot” and the “impressive final product” was “amazing”.  He had only recently seen the finished film and was blown away by how good it was and “proud, very proud” of his work on the film.

Potentially our favourite partygoers of the night were the Irish boys representing Done in 60 Seconds nominee Let There Be Less Blood (Tom Rowley, Dublin 8 ) they were having a whale of a time and relishing every moment of the experience.  The Jameson Empire after party was a truly enjoyable night and we loved seeing the sheer joy on the faces of the winners and their teams.  It felt good to be in the company of people who live and love film.  For all our coverage of the nights’ events you may click the links above or below.  After such a positive experience we look forward to seeing what the 2011 awards will bring!

Last night was about one thing and one thing only, and that was the Empire / Jameson movie awards 2010. These awards are possibly the most fan based awards in the country as pretty much every entry if voted for by you, the public.

Jon and I headed down to the Grosvenor House Hotel to find our spot on the red carpet. After gosling with some other reporters, we managed to find out niche and never moved from that spot until the awards were over! Just of few of those in attendance were Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant, Jude Law, Edgar Wright, Sam Worthington, Ray Winstone, Rupert Grint, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and many more.

We managed to get interviews with many of the celebrities all of which you can now see in this 10 minute highlight reel which I’ve embedded below. Sorry for some of the shaky camera work but there were rather a lot of press fighting for their spot so often it made for some rather creative position!! If you’re wondering why some of the pictures break up at a few points, that will be the gazillion flash bulbs going off from all the photographers. Do not adjust your sets!

It was a crazy night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Central London at the Jameson Empire awards, and you can see Dave’s pictures of the stars as they walked the red carpet, and we will have our exclusive interviews up on the site shortly.

Much has been made of the public voting of these awards, and the results (which are reported below) show a few deviations from the voting of the British and American Academies.

It was refreshing to see Let the Right One In take home Best Horror and, as you’ll see in the interviews we conducted, the stars of the original aren’t too keen on the idea of an American remake. In The Loop’s win for Best Comedy shows that fans of Malcolm Tucker and The Thick Of It are clearly Empire readers and when Private Eye Editor and Have I Got News For You team captain Ian Hislop was asked if In The Loop had a chance for Best Comedy, he said it had more chance as Best Documentary.

Reversing the trend for suffering in the face of The Hurt Locker James Cameron and Avatar took home Best Director and Best Film, and it was gratifying to see Harry Brown win for Best British Film (but where was Moon?). Christoph Waltz was as gracious as ever, speaking before winning the Best Actor award he was keen for us to see Inglorious Basterds as a triumph due to the ensemble nature of the film, both in front of and behind the camera.

All in all it was good to see the winners roster shape up as it did, and while it was a cramped night the Jameson Empire awards gave us the chance to get a lot of time with the people who make these films, and for a film awards ceremony voted for by the fans that seems just as it should be.

Jon and I were both at the Jameson / Empire Awards 2010 and the second I finish this post I’ll begin editing the footage and interview that we gathered with the likes of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis.

Jon and I will be on the red carpet interviewing and taking photos of as many celebrities as we can (i’ll try and twit-pic a load too), then Jon takes to the keyboard where he’ll be bringing you live updates from the awards themselves as I head on home to start editing and posting photos and videos from the event.

Then, when you think you can’t take any more, Emily will be going to the after-show party where she’ll be doing her best to get snaps of as many people as she can with a Jameson in their hands.

HeyUGuys are conflicted.  We exist because we love film and celebrate the artistry and endeavour of anyone who has the sack to commit pen to paper and scenes to celluloid but sometimes we despair of a world where originality has been overthrown by the banal, the safe and the (ick) reimagined.  As a rule we’d prefer not to revisit old ground but – as a wiser man than HUG once observed – it is the exception that proves the rule.

Empire and Jameson understand that wisdom well and, furnished with this knowledge, created the genius that is the Done in 60 Seconds project.  Done in 60 Seconds is a competition which encourages budding filmmakers and movie lovers worldwide to celebrate and encapsulate their favourite celluloid triumphs in one short minute of film.  The longlist of entries was assembled last autumn and, after careful consideration, reduced to a shortlist of twenty sixty second films which were presented to an illustrious judging panel and a motley crew of journalists (and biased friends) this evening at London’s 24 Club.

It would be impossible for us to accurately capture here the utter brilliance of the entries.  Suffice it to say, if you have never seen the Evil Dead story told entirely in plasticine, Top Gun recreated with slurs on $cientology or There Will Be Blood in its arcade game incarnation you should click the links and prepare to be bowled over!

Empire assembled a panel of judges, including Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’s Edgar Wright, to crop the list to a manageable five ahead of Sundays Jameson Empire Awards when the winner will be announced.  HeyUGuys will of course be on the red carpet and inside the after party to bring you the news as it happens but, in the meantime we have the Top Five 60 second movies for you and a wee word from Mr Wright himself.

The nominees, in no particular order, are:

UK entries, Evil Dead (submitted by Lee Hardcastle), Top Gun (Mark Wong / produced by Chris Slaughter) and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Michael Whaite)

When we exclusively caught up with Edgar Wright moments after the decision he told us the judges were fairly unanimous in their choices.  There were no dramatic battles over the nominees because the Top Five were clear to all three.  Despite appearing at the 24 Club on only two hours sleep, Edgar was gracious (and coherent) about the overwhelming reaction he has had to the newly released Scott Pilgrim trailer which debuted at Kick-Ass screenings around the country tonight.  He acknowledged finding the excitement over the 80 second trailer “weird” but had had “so much fun” on the judging panel that he was distracted from the hysteria.  On our journey home we also noted that Mr Wright had had the cheek to pinch one of HeyUGuys exclusive Twitter photos to share with his army of fans across the Twitterverse.  Ordinarily we’d cry foul but we’ll excuse one of the site’s favourite directors as long as Scott Pilgrim lives up to the promise of its trailer.

As for the HUG verdict: well, we had a bit of a soft spot for Seam Callanan’s condensed Inglourious Basterds and an amazingly clever clown take on District 9.  That aside, we rather agreed with the judges’ verdicts.  It will be interesting to see which film triumphs at Sundays Jameson Empire Awards and whether its creator goes on to greater (and longer) glory in the future.  For now we have had an amazing night at the mini-movies and we look forward to seeing what Sunday will bring…

Jason Isaacs is a man who has been in the movie business for a long time. He’s become a household face, if not name from appearing in movies such as The Patriot, The Harry Potter Franchise, Armageddon and Black Hawk Down. He was at the BAFTA awards (our photos here including a couple of Mr. Isaac’s himself) as one of the judges of the Best Newcomer nominations and now that is over, he turns his attention to the Jameson / Empire Film Awards where is is one of the judges.

Isaacs was interviewed by PA recently where he said how surprised he was about the quality of the videos that people have created. The award he is judging is called ‘Jameson Empire Awards’ Done In 60 Seconds’ which we promoted a while back here. Members of the public had to make a 60 second short film to be in with a change of winning the 2010 prize.

In the interview, Isaacs states how surprised he was at the quality of some of the entries.

“I was expecting there to be something rather patronising about it – that they would all be so entertainingly shoddily amateur, that it would be like when my kids put on a dance show for me every night. But in this instance I think there’s some really genuine talent here and I don’t know where or how they’ve trained or taught themselves how to do what they’re doing, but even the ones that aren’t technically proficient, the ones that have made it through to this stage in the competition have got real storytelling skills.”

We’ve just been sent the nominations for the 2010 awards ceremony and you can check them all our below.

The awards is now in it’s 15th year and will be hosted by Dara O Briain from the Grosvenor House Hotel and the great thing about these awards is that they’ve been voted for by us, the film fans who really are the most important people out there when it come to what we like / dislike.

Two of the biggest and most revered action/thriller directors lead the way in this year’s Awards with James Cameron’s Avatar and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds each garnering five nominations.  Academy Award-nominated dramas proved equally popular with the multi-BAFTA Award-winning The Hurt Locker and District 9 receiving four nominations each whilst Up In The Air and An Education each receive three nominations.

In the running for the coveted position of Best Film (presented by Sony) are Avatar, Star Trek, District 9, Inglourious Basterds and The Hurt Locker.

Harry Brown, Sherlock Holmes and Inglourious Basterds all feature in the Best Actor category (presented by Citroën) with nominations for Sir Michael Caine and Robert Downey Jr.  They are joined by Christoph Waltz with his Academy Award-nominated performance in Inglourious Basterds, Sam Worthington in Avatar and Robert Pattinson in New Moon.

The past year has also given movie fans a dazzling array of performances by a new generation of leading ladies.  Zoe Saldana for her motion capture work in Avatar as Best Actress, alongside Carey Mulligan’s superb performance in An Education.  They are joined by Emily Blunt in the title role of The Young Victoria, Melanie Laurent as vengeful refugee Shosanna Dreyfus in Inglourious Basterds and Anne-Marie Duff for her acclaimed performance as John Lennon’s mother in Nowhere Boy.

Avatar and Inglourious Basterds see directors James Cameron and Quentin Tarantino go head to head for the coveted title of Best Director alongside Neil Blomkamp for District 9, JJ Abrams for Star Trek and Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker.

This has been another fantastic year for British filmmaking as reflected by nominees in many of the categories.  The nominees for the Best British Film Award include Daniel Barber’s Michael Caine thriller Harry Brown, Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Lone Scherfig’s An Education, Sam Taylor-Wood’s directorial debut Nowhere Boy and Armando Iannucci’s political satire In The Loop (also nominated for Best Comedy).

The awards continue to acknowledge and celebrate the emergence of new talent.  This year’s nominees for Best Newcomer are: Carey Mulligan for her BAFTA Award-winning role in An Education, Aaron Johnson for his performance as a young John Lennon in Nowhere Boy, Sharlto Copley in District 9, Anna Kendrick for her roles in Up In The Air and New Moon, and Katie Jarvis in the critically acclaimed Fish Tank.

Cinemagoers were kept in stitches by films such as the hit buddy movie The Hangover, the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man, In The Loop and George Clooney’s dual roles in The Men Who Stare At Goats and Up In The Air – all of which are nominated for the Best Comedy Award.

Meanwhile, the Best Horror nominees that saw filmgoers cringing in their seats comprise of Tomas Alfredson’s Let The Right One In, Oren Peli’s terrifying Paranormal Activity, Ruben Fleischer’s comedy horror Zombieland, Chan-wook Park’s Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize winning Thirst and Sam Raimi’s return to form, Drag Me To Hell.

The Best Thriller category sees Harry Brown and Michael Mann’s Public Enemies up against Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr.

Finally, Duncan Jones’ Moon, JJ Abrams’ Star Trek and James Cameron’s Avatar will go up against Neil Blomkamp’s District 9 and Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy film.

This year’s Jameson Empire Awards also welcomes the return of the hugely popular amateur filmmaking competition Done In 60 Seconds.  All entries have now been submitted and the public are now starting to vote for their favourite Done in 60 Seconds film.  Voting will close on March 12 and then the UK’s top five finalists will join 15 international finalists to be judged by a super-panel comprising Empire Editor Mark Dinning, actor Jason Issacs and director Edgar Wright.  The resulting top five will then be invited to the Awards itself, but only one can win the coveted prize.  The public can vote for their favourite UK Done in 60 Seconds video by visiting the website: www.empireonline.com/awards2010.

Here’s another one for all budding film makers out there….. Edgar Wright has been announced as a judge of the Jameson Empire Awards, ‘Done in 60 Seconds competition. The idea is that you take a movie that you either love or hate and, in Edgar’s words, ‘boil it down into it’s most important points’, all in 60 seconds.

The top 20 entries will come to London for a semi-final event on 26 March, where the jury will select the final five nominees. These five will have the chance to rub shoulders with A-List stars at the Jameson Empire Awards on 28 March, where the winner will be announced.

If you’re left unsatisfied with your local multiplex experience, with its piped in popcorn smell or neon clash and sticky floors you might want to cast an eye on a new film season in London put on by the Jameson Cult Film Club.

The capital has some amazing venues such as Somerset House and the varied locales of the Secret Cinema (unfortunately I can’t tell you much more about them…), and the JCFC have scouted some pretty impressive places to screen some of the finest films of the last 25 years. My personal favourite is the screening of Kubrick’s iconic chiller The Shining in Islington’s Union Chapel, which seems the perfect venue for a slow descent into madness.
