Well this is some fabulous news and I need to start calling in all favours at Paramount to see if I can get me a copy when this little puppy comes out but the official website has just announced that one of the best TV series of all time (that would be Star Trek the Next Generation!) will be remastered and re-released on Blu-ray with 7.1 DTS Master Audio. The first three episodes to get the HD treatment and given the title, ‘The Next Level’, will be the pilot episode ‘Encounter at Farpoint’ as well as ‘Sins of the Father’ and ‘The Inner Light called The Next Level’. The Blu-ray will be released in the US (and hopefully coinciding here in the UK) in January 2012 with season 1 being released later in the year.

The news comes from StarTrek.com who also have a great little video getting us all excited which I’ve embedded below. I have so many fond memories of watching Patrick Stewart as Jean Luc Picard and the rest of the crew of the Enterprise from the series. Other than the odd re-run, I’ve never caught the entire series in order ever since I first saw the 178 episodes on Sky One. Sounds like next year may be a good time to go through the lot again!

More info as we get it.

Considering the state of the company pre-Wii and DS, you can’t begrudge them embracing all manner of Nintendogs and Brain Training to drag themselves out of the financial mire. Now they’re back on the top of the business world (and how), there are rumours floating around that they’re set to imminently reveal a brand new console that could even be as possible as the PS3.

Game Informer reports that the company is set to unveil a HD console at June’s E3 convention, touting sources who confirm the HD-ness, but are unable to tell us more about its affiliation with the Wii branding – or even if it’ll be backwards compatible.

The level of technological snazziness is also under wraps, although whispers suggest it’ll be as powerful as the PS3 and Xbox 360, which should help the company attract developers when it comes to multi-platform releases.

When Game Informer approached the company they unsurprisingly responded with a tight-lipped ‘no comment’.

You may not have the budget to attract Dev Patel, Pamela Anderson, Ed Westwick or Charles Dance into your own home movies but you can probably afford a mobile phone like the one used to shoot this new short movie.

This may come across as a bit of an advert but it’s more focusing on you, our readers who would be able to create the same short film as Nokia have done with this video to promote their new phone, the Nokia N8.

The mobile phone giant enlisted the actors mentioned above to work with the McHenry Brothers to make a rather spectacular short film entitled ‘The Commuter’. In the video, Dev Patel find his car has been clamped by a pesky Traffic Warden played by the legendary Charles Dance. After queuing for a bus, Patel is put into a trance by a movie poster which they takes us into an action packed, seven minute short film shot entirely on the Nokia N8.

The groundbreaking film, directed by the McHenry Brothers, was shot in just four days with the Nokia N8 using no back up cameras, with the streets of London and St Albans providing the backdrop to Nokia’s story about one commuter’s eventful journey to work.

As I said above, this is by no means an advert for Nokia (although it may come across like one!?) but what it does prove is that anyone out there can make a short film to the standard that has been achieved here. I’ve embedded the movie below and you can find out more and look at some behind the scenes videos (again shot on the N8) by clicking here.

Hats off to Nokia and the marting team who came up with the idea in the first place. Love it!

The answer to the later is always yes while the answers to the first two questions can sometimes be much harder to explain in words without getting all techie. This is where it’s nice to have some pictures that explain the whole thing and this video does just that!

Twentieth Century Fox have a whole selection of classic movies being released on Blu-ray and have created this trailer explaining exactly what they’ve done to make the picture quality better. They use movies, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Romeo and Juliet, The Sound of Music, Moulin Rouge and the Alien Anthology to show just how they’ve made the images you see on screen so much better remastering all their original stock into high definition.

From now on, i’ll be using this post to direct people when they ask me the two questions above! Hopefully this will also help many more of you who get asked those questions too!

All the movies you see in this trailer are out on blu-ray imminently with The Sound of Music being released on Blu-ray and DVD on 8th November courtesy of Fox.
