This is a film I think everyone will be talking about this summer. Lining up a little before the superhero blockbusters kick off in July, we’ll be getting Seeking a Friend for the End of the World with Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, and it looks so good.

We got a lovely first poster for it earlier this week, which gave an indication that this wouldn’t be the kind of apocalyptic disaster movie the title would indicate at all, which is definitely to its benefit.

And now we’ve got the trailer that proves this drama-comedy-romance is going to be brilliant.

“Set in a too-near future, a man searches for a meaningful connection as humanity’s last days are at hand. Can he find his greatest love at the worst possible time? As the respective journeys of Dodge and Penny converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.”

Lorene Scafaria makes her directorial debut with this from her own script, and alongside Carell and Knightley, we can also look forward to seeing Adam Brody (The O.C.), Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men), Patton Oswalt (Young Adult), William Peterson (CSI), and Gillian Jacobs (Community).

It’s great to see Carell doing so well as he branches out into more drama-oriented comedies, having given such a good performance last year in Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is set to be released in the US on 22nd June, and though there’s no word on a UK release date yet, I’m hoping we’ll be getting it at the same time too. With one of the longest film titles that I can remember in recent years, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World looks more than a little promising. Yahoo Movies have the first poster for the film to share with us, and it really is rather beautiful.

Looking at Carell in his sweater and hoodie really reminds me of his brilliant performance in Crazy, Stupid, Love. last year, a film that clearly showed that Carell can pull off the drama and romance every bit as well as he can the comedy.

Scafaria is directing from her own script, and has assembled a great cast that also includes Adam Brody (The O.C.), Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men), Patton Oswalt (Young Adult), William Peterson (CSI), and Gillian Jacobs (Community).

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is set to be released in the States on 22^nd June, and with a bit of luck we can look forward to seeing it here in the UK this summer too. As usual with this lovely first poster, you can click to enlarge.

Empire have released the UK teaser poster for Cameron Diaz’s new movie, The Box. The Box is directed by Richard Kelly who has previously given us Donnie Darko. The cult status which Darko has created means that anything Kelly makes must be worth a watch. It’s based on a book by the author who brought us I am Legend called ‘Button, Button’ which was written by Richard Matheson.

Set in the 1970s, Norma (Diaz) and Arthur (James Marsden) are delivered a mysterious box to their door. In the box is a button. If you press the button you get $1 million. Also, someone in the world dies.
