The news that Edward Norton had been ‘dumped’ as Bruce Banner/The Hulk for the forthcoming Avengers movie seemed to shock the media this past week. I have to ask, however, just how shocked can we reasonably be? This has been on the cards since the initial announcement of an Avengers project. If it is because [...]

It was reported last week that MGM may have finally given up on Bond 23, and it has now apparently been cancelled. MGM have been in turmoil for some time now, with financial problems slowing projects, and no sign of a buyer. This is sad news for many people for several reasons. On the surface, it is [...]

23 years ago, a formulaic Arnold Schwarzenegger action vehicle was released. It enjoyed box office, if not necessarily critical success. A lacklustre follow-up ensured the franchise was, cinematically at least, silenced for many years. The series’ protagonists were given their big screen resurrection 6 years ago with shared billing, with a sequel 3 years later. [...]

The big news a few weeks ago was the departure of Megan Fox from the Transformers franchise. At first she was pushed, then her ‘people’ claimed she did, in fact, jump. So which is it? And what does it mean, if anything, for the success of Transformers 3? Paramount’s official line was that Fox’s option [...]

Last weekend’s big movies made money, with The Karate Kid doing particularly well against its production budget. However, compared to some of the numbers seen over the Spring, the Summer box office appears to be declining, with the A-Team particularly falling far short of expectations. Usually, Summer is the big seller, and there has been no [...]

This afternoon Craig published an article explaining why he will never compromise by watching a movie on a phone. You can find said article here. To be clear, this isn’t meant as a direct argument against Craig’s views. How we watch film is a personal thing, i would never claim someone else’s decisions as ‘wrong’. [...]

Yesterday, to coincide with Ridley Scott’s adaptation, starring Russell Crowe and released this week, i looked at the legend of Robin Hood, and why so many movies and TV shows have been based around the popular character. The story of the outlaw that robs from the rich and gives to the poor is certainly compelling, but it got [...]

Iron Man 2 is already on release around the world, and this weekend opens domestically. It has already passed the $100M mark before it even hits screens in the US. Arguably the most highly anticipated movie of the year, it could quite conceivably turn out to be the highest grossing, and has already enjoyed a [...]

Last weekend saw Kick-Ass underperform at the box office. Critical reviews of the movie have been great, but the public’s interest in the movie hasn’t drawn. Kick-Ass was one of this year’s most highly anticipated films so far, and hopes for its success were high. We are now about to enter the second third of the [...]

CHUD are reporting today (right HERE) that Marvel and Disney are developing an idea to put together a series of budget range movies based on some of the more obscure superheroes from the Marvelverse. Yesterday i posted an article (which you can find here) looking at the news that Joss Whedon had been chosen as the surprise choice to direct the forthcoming Avengers movie. I called it a bold choice, particularly in contrast with the other directorial choices Marvel have made for their forthcoming projects, choices i saw as [...]

Naturally, the majority of the IMDb250 list is made up of North American films. It’s perfectly understandable, Hollywood is the movie capital of the world, and whilst Bollywood and Japan probably produce a comparable volume of movies, it is American cinema that is the most heavily financed, and most widely distributed. It’s perhaps surprising, especially considering [...]
