There’s a new trailer out for the forthcoming film from director Patricia Riggen, and Girl in Progress has Eva Mendes as a girl interrupted, coping with a teenage daughter who is maturing faster than both of them would like.

Aongside Mendes Riggen has cast Matthew Modine and Patricia Arquette, but the key performance indicated from the trailer looks to be that of  Cierra Ramirez, whose chemistry with Mendes will be where the film succeeds or fails.

The film has a limited release scheduled for the 27th of April in the US, Yahoo have debuted the trailer and given us a synopsis, which is yours for the taking below,

Grace is a single mom. She is too busy juggling work, bills, and the very married Dr. Hartford, to give her daughter, Ansiedad the attention she desperately needs. When Ansiedad’s English teacher, Ms. Armstrong, introduces her students to classic coming-of-age stories, Ansiedad is inspired to skip adolescence and jump-start her life without mom. While Grace becomes preoccupied with the increasing affections of her co-worker, Ansiedad enlists the help of her loyal friend, Tavita, to plot her shortcut to “adulthood”. Writer-director Derek Cianfrance is reteaming with Ryan Gosling after working together on the critically acclaimed Blue Valentine, which came out here at the start of the year, and it looks like their newest project is going to be awesome. The first official image of Gosling in the film has now surfaced online over at The Playlist, with Gosling looking his natural ridiculously cool self.

The Place Beyond The Pines will see Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper in the co-leading roles, with the support cast rounded up by Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, Ray Liotta, and Bruce Greenwood, in what should be a brilliant crime drama/thriller.

“Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.”

Gosling has really been making a name for himself this year, with three very well-known films coming out in the past three months alone, supporting Steve Carell in Crazy, Stupid, Love.; co-leading with George Clooney in The Ides of March; and leading my personal favourite film of the year, Drive.

He’s currently at work filming Ruben Fleischer’s The Gangster Squad, due out at the end of next year, having wrapped shooting on The Place Beyond The Pines. The latter is currently still without a release date, but with shooting done, hopefully it will sneak into 2012’s releases, because I’m really looking forward to seeing what this will be like. The ‘generational’ aspect of it, in particular, has me intrigued, and I’m curious to see how Gosling and Cooper will be visually aged through the film.

Without further ado, here’s the first look at Gosling looking awesome on his motorbike. The skull-and-crossbones trousers could probably do with a miss, but the red leather jacket, the helmet, and the gloves – not to mention Gosling himself – all make up for them and then some.

Last Night is a joint Miramax and Gaumont production centred around an element crucial to all relationships- monogamy. Writer/Director Massy Tadjedin toys with themes of jealousy, lust, temptation and infidelity in a way that absorbs you into the relationship of Joanna and Michael played by Keira Knightly and Sam Worthington.

Three years into married life, they appear to have reached the well reported difficult stage where despite being happy, the true meaning of lifelong commitment dawns and doubtful questions of marrying too early begin to surface. This enticing combination of curiosity and desire acts as the fuse waiting to be lit on the inevitable relationship bomb.

The spark is provided when Joanna becomes jealous after witnessing an obvious attraction between Michael and his colleague Laura, played by the beautiful Eva Mendes. Accusations fly and this is indubitably heightened by the fact that Laura will be accompanying him on the classic business trip away the following day. The next evening, with Michael away, Joanna unexpectedly bumps into Alex (Guillaume Canet), an old flame kindled during the married couples fleeting break.

The film continues in a back and forth motion between the lust for something new and the longing for a past romance. With each couple slowly inching their way over that invisible line of trust, there is a build up of suspense which leaves us continuously guessing; Will they or won’t they fall into the hands of betrayal? It is a little slow paced but this momentum allows us to better understand the characters and moreover to feel the emotions being displayed.

It targets more of an adult audience who will relate to that feeling of attraction which, if acted on, will essentially cause more harm than good. It plays on the fact that we are only human and allows you to choose a character and become them for the duration of the movie.

The ending was rather abrupt which can be somewhat disappointing if you are expecting a fiery rounded conclusion. Nevertheless, it was also rather powerful and completely different to where I presumed the story would reside in this genre of film.

Temptation is the name of the game of The Jacket writer Massy Tadjedin’s quietly profound directorial debut, Last Night. The temptation of such an intriguingly sexy and good-looking cast of Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes and French actor Guillaume Canet is the film’s obvious draw, and what drives a story full of acute observations and exquisite nuances. But this slow burner, which increases in intensity and passionate purpose, really impacts after viewing, posing the thought-provoking debate of whether long-term adoration is worse than the physical act of a one-night stand?

Professional couple, Joanna (Knightley) and husband Michael Reed (Worthington) have an affluent middle-class existence and apparent marital bliss, when doubt creeps in after Joanna spots her betrothed having an intimate balcony meeting with a very attractive and flirtatious work colleague, Laura (Mendes), at a party. Suspicion fuels a marital quarrel back home, the night before Michael is due to fly out of town with Laura on business. While he is away in LA, Joanna bumps into an old flame – and seemingly the love of her prior life, Frenchman Alex who is visiting New York. Joanna is invited out to dinner with him. What seems innocent enough soon ignites her passion for Alex, and his for her. Meanwhile, with Laura around, Michael has temptation of another kind to deal.

At the start, Tadjedin fittingly captures the damaging goading and ugly atmosphere in a relationship when one partner accuses the other of wandering, and how a seemingly idyllic existence is ever ready to be threatened by outside forces at any given moment. Granted, Laura is a seductive sight, and one any attached woman can rightfully relate to in a social situation, but we never really know what Michael’s previous misdemeanours are – if any – as Tadjedin keeps her cards close to her chest.

The writer/director divides her film into a compelling double dose of intrigue that turns the viewer into a betting animal as to who will stray first, and the cagey characters add to the film’s teasing and infectious mystique. On the downside, certain situations raise blunt questioning from some supporting characters that seem a trifle erroneous at times, as does the often-wordy dialogue of either party, in an attempt to not lose control, when in real-life things would surely be different in the heat of the moment.

Nevertheless, the power of the film is in the prolonging of being proven right, and Knightley’s performance far outshines her ‘husband’ Worthington’s, in one of her finest since Antonement. Annoying ‘cat-that’s-got-the-cream’ girly giggle aside that spoils an accomplished delivery, Knightley simply oozes sexual chemistry with Canet, with Tadjedin resisting pointing out apparent signs of desire, instead keeping a tight framing on her characters, and like cinéma vérité, lets events play out. In fact, all the cast look amazing, as do the sumptuous locations Tadjedin sets each individual dilemma in, adding to the extravagant nature and allure of her first work that’s kind of reminiscent of a Woody Allen piece, but without the somber humour and philosophical nature.

Sadly, the weakest link in this provocative tale is Worthington who never really ignites the screen in quite the same way as Knightley – even opposite sexy Mendes who steals their scenes together and almost makes him appear like an uncommunicative oaf, rather than an obvious intellectual equal. This is either deliberate to allow Worthington’s average ‘man-next-door’ appeal to shine through, and paint Michael as victim of female empowerment, or that the actor who excels in ‘robotic’ mode (Avatar, Terminator) just doesn’t portray enough of a spark or depth for such a part. Looking good is the first step in this film. Projecting inner emotional turmoil is the next and is vital for the two parts of the debate to be fully composed and sustained.

Apart from the tiff at the start, Tadjedin wisely makes sure there is never a dramatic, imploding climax of the relationship, allowing doubt to fester after each infidelity, even up until the very last moment and ‘cut-short’ ending, which is very apt when, again, we are challenged to wonder whether either tormented party tells the other.

Last Night has some inquisitive ingredients to make for a tantalising film. It’s just a shame that the pleasure is lessened by its impact being more unbalanced in favour of the Laura-Alex side of the equation, as one of the players on the other side is not strong enough for us to really care if he does stray or not. In fact, cut the Michael-Laura scenes out of the equation, and Tadjedin would still have a valid exploration of seduction, infidelity and guilt. The film-maker has the beginnings of a gifted directorial career which is as exciting a future prospect as a chance meeting with an old beau any day.

Optimum Releasing have posted the official UK trailer for relationship drama Last Night.

The story follows a married couple (Worthington and Knightley), apart for a night while the husband takes a business trip with a colleague (Mendes) to whom he’s attracted. While he’s resisting temptation, his wife encounters her past love (Canet).

Last Night, which received positive reviews on the festival circuit, will be released in the UK on June 3rd.

Kate Beckinsale has been offered the role of Lori in Columbia Pictures’ Total Recall remake.

If she accepts, she will star opposite Colin Farrell (In Bruges) and Bryan Cranston (Drive) in the sci-fi adventure film.

Total Recall involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side.

Deadline are also reporting that Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are the hot contenders to land the other female role: freedom fighter Melina.

Len Wiseman will direct the remake, which is expected to hit cinemas on August 12, 2012.

Beckinsale will next be seen in Underworld 4: New Dawn.

Ahead of the Tribeca Film Festival 2011, Miramax (via Apple) have just released the brand new theatrical trailer for Last Night which is directed by Massy Tadjedin and stars Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes and Guillaume Canet. One of the movies coming out in the Sony ‘Laughing Stock’ range today is Will Ferrell’s new movie, The Other Guys. It’s directed by Adam McKay and has a rather impressive ensemble cast which includes Mark Wahlberg, Damon Wayans Jr., Steve Coogan, Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes, Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson, Brooke Shields, Ice-T and Tracy Morgan.

Ferrell and Wahlberg are partners in the New York police department but struggle to get noticed in their normal day jobs as a forensic accountant and a ‘wanna-be hero cop’. The duo are forever overshadowed by by the city’s top cops, Danson and Highsmith (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson), until one day, an opportunity arises giving them their chance to shine.

If you’re a Will Ferrell fan, then you’re going to love this movie just as much as the rest of his back-catalog. I’m no great lover of all things Ferrell but I understand his draw and I’m sure this will be another hit where lines can be quoted for years to come.

It’s completely ridiculous throughout but with a strong cast who seem to purposefully overact at even given opportunity, this makes for a silly and fun Saturday afternoon watch.

Our friends over at French website, Ecran Large got to chat with Béatrice Leterrier (wife of Clash of the Titans director, Louis Letterier) today who told them that she’s going to be directing a new movie titled Wrecking Ball and that it will star Eva Mendes.

She also gave them a plotline:

During Christmas, a family reunion will bring back the awful memories of a tragic event which occurred 20 years ago. The fate of the family will be in the hands of a 5 years girl who is not aware of her influence.

No official news on this yet unfortunately but we’ll keep you posted.

IMP have debuted a new German poster for the forthcoming Miramax romance-drama Last Night.

Yesterday London was assaulted by the stars of Adam McKay’s cop comedy The Other Guys, and they were on excellent form when they turned out for the crowds.

No doubt you’ll have seen the trailers for the film, which stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as a team of incompetent cops, with dynamic duo of Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson, Eva Mendes and Steve Coogan completing the cast.

Leicester Square was overrun by the premiere and as always it was our excellent friends at Upbeat who were tasked with bringing this fantastic premiere report to the world, so click below to enjoy.

RopeOfSilicon have posted the official first image from Massy Tadjedin’s Last Night.

Selected to close this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, Last Night stars Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes and Guillaume Canet.

Last Night was written and directed by Tadjedin and is her first foray into feature film directing Tadjedin, having  achieved writing credits on John Maybury’s The Jacket and Mehdi Norowzian’s Leo previously.

Synopsis: Michael and Joanna Reed (Worthington and Knightley), are a happily married Manhattan couple, but after attending one of Michael’s business parties, Joanna notices a curious moment between him and his co-worker, Laura (Mendes). Nothing specific can be made of the incident, but each are soon tempted to stray. When Michael goes on a business trip with Laura, Joanna has an encounter with a past love (Canet).

Last Night will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. It does not yet have an official US or UK release date.

In an interview with Craig Ferguson on his The Late, Late Show, Nicolas Cage confirmed his involvement in Ghost Rider 2, now reportedly titled Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance. Cage also revealed that Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who directed Crank, would be taking the helm.

During a press conference for The Other Guys, Eva Mendes, while speaking to Superhero Hype, was asked whether or not she’d be reprising her role as Roxanne Simpson in the sequel, to which she replied with a simple, “No, unfortunately.”

Mendes has doubted her involvement in a sequel since 2008. Answering a question from MTV regarding a potential sequel, she responded by saying, “No, I think Ghost Rider had its moment,” she continued, “I don’t know about a sequel, but I don’t think it needs one.”

It’s unsurprising really, especially considering the lacklustre response to the first film. Eva Mendes has since blossomed into a respectable actress, attracting praise for her performances in The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans and We Own The Night.

So far we’ve seen one trailer, then another trailer for Adam McKay’s The Other Guys which matches up Will Ferrell and Mark Whalberg as pen pushing cops envious of the supercop duo of Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson.

It looks like a fairly knockabout comedy, but you can’t argue with the cast and in this new clip we can to see more than humourous reactions to explosions and bombastic police action.

I still can’t shake the image of Whalberg in The Departed but his banter here with Ferrell points to good things for the film, which may be sold on its action in the trailers, but its success will be in how the comedy and the cast fare.
