This evening, London plays host to the European Premiere of Guy Ritchie’s new movie, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows which stars Robert Downey Jr​, Jude Law​, Noomi Rapace​, Jared Harris, Stephen Fry​ and Eddie Marsan​. Many of the main cast will be there including Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, Director Guy Ritchie and Producer Joel Silver but if you can’t be there in person, fear not as we have the live stream of the event for you right here!

The lovely Edith Bowman will be hosting the event and interviewing the stars as they arrive. They’ll also be a gypsy band performing to open the evening who are featured in the movie. It’s amazing what you can learn while they’re doing the live sync test!

The stars should be arriving on the carpet from 17:45 so go and get a cuppa and come back to watch it all as it unfolds! Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is in UK cinemas 16th December. Usually when London is on the world stage for any movie premiere or event, it’ll be freezing cold, windy and raining but it seems that someone paid a pretty penny to have the sun shining down on London’s O2 area. last night for the European Premiere of Russell Brand’s new movie Arthur.

This footage comes from our friends at Upbeat who got to speak with all the main cast which as well as Brand includes Helen Mirren, Greta Gerwig, Luis Guzman, Nick Nolte, Jennifer Garner and is directed by Jason Winer.

The coolest film of 2010, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, was released on one-disc Blu-ray, Limited Edition Steelbook Blu-ray, and two-disc DVD on 27 December 2010 from Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd! Last night, London’s Leicester Square hosted the European Premiere of Warner Bros. new movie, Due Date. The movie stars Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr., and is directed by the man who directed The Hangover, Todd Phillips. All of them were present on the red carpet at the event.

Due Date also stars Michelle Monaghan, Juliette Lewis, Jamie Foxx and is released in the UK this Friday, 5th November.

Synopsis: Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.) is an expectant first-time father whose wife’s due date is a mere five days away. As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at her side for the birth, his best intentions go completely awry when a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) forces Peter to hitch a ride with Ethan-on what turns out to be a cross-country road trip that will ultimately destroy several cars, numerous friendships and Peter’s last nerve.

This evening, the premiere of E1 Entertainment’s new movie, RED (Retired Extremely Dangerous). The movie boasts a rather impressive cast which includes Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Richard Dreyfuss Karl Urban and Mary-Louise Parker.

RED is directed by Robert Schwentke and hits UK cinemas 22nd October. The European premiere took place in the slightly different but very cool location that is the Royal Festival Hall and Bruce Willis & Helen Mirren were there to the deslight of the London crowd. As always, our roving reporter Adam was on the red carpet tweeting live from the event and our friends from Upbeat have sent us the official report from the premiere which you can watch below.

We also got to chat with all the cast which includes Kick-Ass himself, Aaron Johnson, who was joined by Hit-Girl Chloe Moretz and, completing the crime fighting trio, Christopher Mintz-Plasse were all on great form and were joined by Mark Strong who charmed the crowds and took the time to answer our questions which you can see here.

Mika’s role was somewhat different so I decided to put him in his own category and he even gets his own video! Mika has done the title song for the movie which is funnily enough is called ‘Kick-Ass’! The video is awesome and mirror’s Kick-Ass’s fight against crime using clips from the movie and even paying reference to the graphic novel by Mark Millar. It was a great night in London’s Leicester Square and the crowds turned out in screaming droves to see the stars of Kick-Ass turn up for its European premiere.

The rain didn’t spoil anyone’s fun, and HeyUGuys took their spot on the red carpet to interview all the cast and creative minds behind what it sure to be one of the biggest hits of the year.

We spoke to Kick-Ass himself, Aaron Johnson, he was joined by Hit-Girl Chloe Moretz and, completing the crime fighting trio, Christopher Mintz-Plasse were all on great form and were joined by Mark Strong who charmed the crowds and took the time to answer our questions.

In my opinion, being in the same room as Matt Damon is pretty cool, then add Morgan Freeman and it gets a lot cooler, then add the legendary Clint Eastwood and my mind gets blown! Put that in reverse order and you’re pretty much where I was this morning at the Invictus Press Conference in a lovely swanky hotel in London, England.

HeyUGuys were lucky enough to be invited along to the press conference for Clint Eastwood’s latest movie where he lives behind the camera, Invictus which stars Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar, the South African rugby captain who inspired a nation. Invictus tells the story of how Mandela used his national rugby team as a catalyse to rebuild the South African nation after so many years of apartheid. Our review will be up later this week.

In the meantime, check out the press conference in it’s entirety. The audio starts quite quiet but improves a couple of minutes in. Enjoy it! Invictus is released 5th February.

The Palme d’Or. The prize awarded by the jury at the Cannes International film festival, for the best film in the competition. In recent times, it has been awarded to both up and coming film directors, like Steven Soderbergh, the Coens, and perhaps most famously Quentin Tarantino, and veterans of their art like Gus Van Sant and Roman Polanski. The Palme d’Or is considered one of the most prestigious awards in film.

This year, it went to Michel Haneke. It’s been a long time coming for the Austrian. Considered one of the most talented directors in Europe, Haneke will be best known in the UK and US for his only English language effort, 2007′s Funny Games US. A remake of his own 1997 Austrian movie, it wasn’t the best showcase of his work. He has returned to his native tongue, and hopes this year’s award winning The White Ribbon signals a return to form.

It is a small village in Germany, just before the beginning of the first world war. The village doctor is enjoying his usual morning ride, when suddenly the horse tumbles head over hoof, severely injuring it’s rider. The doctor is taken to hospital in the nearest, and upon further investigation it seems someone tied a wire across his route deliberately.
 
Then, an apparent accident occurs at a mill. A female worker falls through rotten floorboards to her death. The village is shocked by these events, none more so than her son. He commits an act of revenge against the mill owner, the village baron. When the baron’s son later goes missing, then turns up tied and beaten, suspicion inevitably falls on the same man. But with the revelation that he could not have committed the crime, the village is stunned. Who in the village could have committed such a crime?
 
As more incidents occur, the young village school teacher tries to unravel the mystery. Could it be possible the children of the village, kept in line by the iron fists of their guardians, are responsible for this string of strange and malicious events?
 
Shot in black and white, with no musical scoring, the story at the heart of The White Ribbon is pretty dark. The occurrences are all violent, intended to injure or kill. The way some of the adults of the village live their lives is questionable. But it’s the strict way they treat their children, to the point of physical abuse (and in one case sexual), that shocks. This is no exploitation picture however. The more sinister parts of the story are sensitively handled. And there are no graphic depictions of abuse or violence, they are implied, or occur behind closed doors.
 
It’s not all bleak drama however. There is a sweet love story contained within, as the young school teacher courts a nanny working for the baron. The scenes as the teacher and the object of his affections shyly get to know each other are very well written. There are many well played out scenes that tug at the heartstrings. The pastor’s youngest son giving up his beloved pet bird to replace the pastor’s dead one almost brings a tear to the eye. One particular scene, in which the doctor’s daughter is explaining death to her younger brother, starts off amusing, and ends up heartbreaking.
 
The casting in The White Ribbon is outstanding. There isn’t a bad performance on show. The ensemble cast create a convincing, fully realised village community. There are some outstanding performances amongst the adult actors, particularly Burghart Klaussner as the ultra strict Pastor, Rainer Bock as the abusive Doctor, and Christian Friedel as the young Teacher. However, it is amongst the younger actors that the performances amaze. The children of the village are played in such a subtle and confident manner. In particular, the level of acting shown by Thibault Serie and Miljan Chatelain, not much more than five years old, is remarkable.
 
It is a relatively long film, but is perfectly paced. The slow-burn nature of the storyline may nonetheless test the patience of some viewers. Some below par CGIi in the opening scene is in danger of taking you out of the period setting. These are minor quibbles though.
 
The subtext of the film, the idea that the events that occur ultimately are part of a wider problem which may have contributed to the rise of fascism, is certainly interesting. Another film that opens this week, Harry Brown, also deals with youth in revolt, again pointing the finger at those responsible for the children. Whilst The White Ribbon attributes some blame to the harsh discipline endured by the German kids, the opposite is true in Harry Brown, where a lack of discipline appears to be the problem. The root cause however, the abuse of these impressionable young children, is the same in both cases.
 
If we study history to learn from it’s mistakes, what can we expect to happen in our own society over the next twenty years? It’s a frightening question. One of many that are asked by The White Ribbon, with few answers on offer. I can definitely recommend Michael Hanneke’s offering, it’s a fine film, and possibly more relevant today than we’d like to admit.
