In the interview we find out what it’s all about and why they thought it would be so great to re-launch the franchise after the big gap.

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas will be hitting in 3d and has a cast which also includes Danny Trejo, Danneel Harris, Paula Garcés, Elias Koteas and is directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson.

After years of growing apart, Harold Lee and Kumar Patel have replaced each other with new friends and are preparing for their respective Yuletide celebrations. But when a mysterious package mistakenly arrives at Kumar’s door on Christmas Eve, his attempt to redirect it to Harold’s house ends with the “high grade” contents — and Harold’s father-in-law’s prize Christmas tree — going up in smoke. With his in-laws out of the house for the day, Harold decides to cover his tracks, rather than come clean. Reluctantly embarking on another ill-advised journey with Kumar through New York City, their search for the perfect replacement tree takes them through party heaven — and almost blows Christmas Eve sky high

Secondly, excellent use of 3D seems likely to be employed, given the body parts, explosions and so forth that come flying at us in the course of the few minutes we have before us now. We’ve had a trailer and posters/stills before, but this is different.

Harold & Kumar-love is very much in the eye of the beholder. If you are upset, offended or turned off by any of nudity, racism, blasphemy, drug-addled toddlers, puppets with over-sized “parts”, sweary Santa Claus, more swearing, gratuitous violence or Neil Patrick Harris, then this might not be for you. If that sounds like your sort of thing, then proceed.

To be fair, from the look of the trailer this should be very funny stuff if you can stomach the more extreme content and aren’t concerned by non-PC behaviour. Likewise, the 3D seems to be amusingly employed, which is more welcome than unnecessary retro-fitting of blockbusters that don’t benefit from it anyway.

Don’t watch this with your boss, your mum or anyone young or delicate. For everyone else, proceed.

It starts off similar to the US one that we saw earlier in the year but then gives us quite a bit of new footage.

Dream House is directed by Jim Sheridan and also stars Naomi Watts. It’s released here in the UK November 25th. Find out more about the film on their official website.

Once upon a time, there were two little girls who lived in a house. DANIEL CRAIG (Cowboys & Aliens, upcoming The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), NAOMI WATTS (The Ring, Fair Game) and Oscar® winner RACHEL WEISZ (The Constant Gardener, The Lovely Bones) star in Dream House, a suspense thriller about a family that unknowingly moves into a home where grisly murders were committed…only to uncover even darker mysteries within its walls. Successful publisher Will Atenton (Craig) quit a high-power job in Manhattan to relocate his wife, Libby (Weisz), and two girls to a quaint New England town. But as they settle into their new life, they discover their perfect home was the murder scene of a mother and her children. And the entire city believes it was at the hands of the husband who survived. When Will investigates, he’s not sure if he’s starting to see ghosts or if the tragic story is just hitting too close to home. His only clues come from Ann Patterson (Watts), a mysterious neighbour who knew those who were lost. And as Will and Ann piece together the haunting puzzle, they must find out who murdered the family in Will’s dream house before he returns to kill again.

Joining Craig, Watts and Weisz in the film are MARTON CSOKAS (Alice in Wonderland) as Ann’s ex-husband, Jack; ELIAS KOTEAS (The Fourth Kind) as the mysterious stranger Boyce; and JANE ALEXANDER (The Unborn) as Dr. Greeley. James G.

Quick word of warning – if you want to see this film then don’t watch the trailer. To even hint at some of the recent films whose influence is all over this one would be giving away too much.

Unless the film is a huge psychological horror spanning generations then this trailer not only gives the entire set up away but also throws in a few huge twists and a pretty obvious nod to the big reveal at the end.

If you have to watch it then stop after about a minute as the first few moments set up a thoroughly generic tale of ‘new home which might be haunted, oh and children are scary aren’t they etc’ which is something Insidious did very well and it’ll take more than a man in the woods and a face appearing at the window with a orchestra shock to creep the skin from me.

There may be something decent here, Jim Sheridan certainly known his way around a story and though some of his recent choices were a little unusual (Get Rich or Die Tryin’ being a bit of a head scratcher) he’s amassed a decent cast in Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts but this promotion is assembled in such a way as to make it look as if someone has chomped happily on the last thirty years of horror films and vommed into a bucket from which the last scrapings came together to make this trailer.

And yes – it is only a trailer. The film may be excellent and I’m still looking forward to being convinced but whoever sanctioned this either has no idea of subtlety or no imagination (or, worse, no faith in the film) but they have done a fine job in pulling together a pretty terrible first look. Just keep telling yourself – It’s only a trailer, it’s only a trailer.

Anyway – here’s the new trailer! Enjoy!

IFRAME Embed for Youtube

And a poster! Hurrah!

Directed by Jim Sheridan (Brothers), Dream House stars Daniel Craig (Casino Royale), Rachel Weisz (The Fountain), Naomi Watts (Fair Game), Marton Csokas (The Debt), Sarah Gadon (Charlie Bartlett) and Elias Koteas (Shutter Island).

Successful publisher Will Atenton (Craig) quit a high power job in Manhattan to relocate his wife, Libby (Weisz), and two girls to a quaint New England town. But as they settle into their new life, they discover their perfect home was the murder scene of a mother and her children. And the entire city believes it was at the hands of the husband who survived.

When Will investigates, he’s not sure if he’s starting to see ghosts or if the tragic story is just hitting too close to home. His only clues come from Ann Paterson (Watts), a mysterious neighbour who knew those who were shot. And as Will and Ann piece together the haunting puzzle, they must find out who murdered the family in Will’s dream house before he returns to kill again.

After being plagued by re-shoots and release date switcheroos, Dream House will finally see the light of day when it hits cinema screens on September 30.

Check out the quite dreadful poster below:

I COME WITH THE RAIN is a brutal and compelling story of Ex-Los Angeles cop turned private eye Kline (Hartnett), who travels to Hong Kong in search of Shitao (Kimura), the missing son of a Chinese billionaire. Enlisting Meng Zi (Yue), a friend and former colleague now working for the Hong Kong police, Kline follows a faint trail left by the ethereal Shitao. The path leads to local gangster Su Dongpo (Byung-hun) and his beautiful, drug-addicted girlfriend Lili (Tran Nu Yen Khe). But Kline is distracted from his search, haunted by memories of the serial killer Hasford (Koteas), whose ‘body of work’ was the reason Kline quit the police force…

In this clip, Josh Hartnett as Kline (private detective) discusses his past with Hong Kong police officer friend Meng Zi (Shawn Yue (Infernal Affairs). After eating a particularly nasty looking lump of fish, the conversation turns to the reason Kline left the force.

**UPDATE** – Alas, it would appear this poster is indeed fake…

Christmas 2010 is now over so I guess it’s time to start thinking about next year! At least that’s what New Line Cinema are apparently doing as here’s the first teaser poster for the next movie in the Harold & Kumar franchise called or ‘A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas’.

This new poster was sent through to us by reader of the site, Tyler who tells us that a trailer and official website for the movie isn’t too far behind. A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas sees John Cho and Kal Penn back as the title characters with a cast which also includes Neil Patrick Harris, Danny Trejo, Danneel Harris, Paula Garcés, Elias Koteas and is directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson.

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas should be with us late 2011 (we think somewhere around Christmas time!).

It takes a brave soul to remake one of the most critically acclaimed and fiercely protected foreign language genre films of recent years and with Let Me In Matt Reeves has done something impressive and combined an emotionally engaging love story and properly grisly horror film which honours the original and stands very well on its own.

Let Me In enters UK cinemas this Friday and we had the chance to sit down at the table with Matt Reeves to talk about his relationship to the film and how he considers the love story and horror elements to be one and the same.

‘The story reminded me of my childhood,’ explains Matt Reeves, director of Cloverfield and Let Me In, ‘and it appealed to me as an adult in my remembrance of childhood.’

‘You engage with it on an emotionally complex level, you actually feel for their love story and yet they’re two twelve year old kids,’ Reeves is keen to heap praise on his young stars but also to attest to the power of the original story by John Ajvide Lindqvist, with whom Reeves spoke and impressed the author with his take on the novel.

‘I said to him that I was interested in doing the film not because it’s a great genre story but because it did remind me of my childhood, and he said that meant the most to him because it was the story of his own childhood. Without vampires. And it’s an adult story told through the eyes of children.’

Comparisons with the Tomas Alfredson version are inevitable and Reeves took from the Alfredson film as well as the Lindqvist novel, and he took from his own experience and directorial style, in his words, ‘Personalising, Americanising, all on an instinctual level, knowing one thing – that I related to the story as a coming of age story. It’s all about [Owen's] character. I make him into a voyeur, peering into the world of adults, and to use all of that, and the subplots, to illuminate his coming of age.’

With the focus so much on the love story, I asked the director how the harder horror elements were incorporated. ‘People have said that the tone of the film is more horror based, but what I felt was brilliant about Lindqvist’s conception was he was taking the metaphor of the horror story to describe the horror of growing up and all of that dread that Owen feels every day, like the bullying at school. It’s a movie about waiting, and the horror for me was not so much those jump moments, though they are there, but it’s more about the waiting and fear of what will happen. That was very important to me, that it occupies the emotional state of the character, and that drove the horror, and it drove the love story. They both come out of the same thing, which is his isolation, his loneliness and the pain of growing up.’

Let Me In is out on Friday the 5th of November, my review is here and it’s positive. Remember, remember.

Remaking one of the most celebrated genre movies of recent years was always going to be a challenge. Winning a legion of fans, particularly among critics, Tomas Alfredson’s Let The Right One In is a remarkable film, and on hearing Matt Reeves was to follow Cloverfield with this adaptation I was sceptical.

English language remakes have much to overcome, remakes of popular films even more so. The misconception that they exist only to cater for those too lazy to read subtitles is a popular one, and not without a certain truth to it. But it is wrong to decry them all as pale imitations shoehorning known actors into often foreign parts to run through emotions and events second hand.

To write off remakes with a swipe of the hand is to devalue the work and success of the reanimators, and we can lose sight of what we are here to do – to enjoy (or not) a film on its own standards; not held up to comparison, but how it stands on its own.

So we arrive at the door of Matt Reeves’ take on John Ajvide Lindqvist’s Let The Right One In, and I found that comparison to the 2008 film was unavoidable, but not as damning as I thought.

Earlier this year, a little unfairly, I asked the two lead actors of the Swedish film what they thought of the planned English language remake and to their credit, and after a necessarily vague ‘Most remakes are crappy’ comment, they both said they’d wait and see. Luckily, Matt Reeves clearly knew what he was doing with Let Me In and has realised the potential to bring this story to a wider audience with the same emotional punch as the source material.

No matter if you think this venture panders to the subtitle averse, it’s a great story which is more than capable of being retold and adapted well. Mostly I was praying that he wouldn’t sully the original film; which, while I accept the argument, still exists to be discovered and enjoyed, might be tarnished by the association with an inferior copy.

The good news is that Matt Reeves sticks very close to the original film, and benefits from two amazing performances which, at times, made me question whether or not this was the better version of the story. I can’t deny there was a thrill when the Hammer logo appeared on screen and there are some truly unsettling scenes which play well against the charming and engaging childhood romance between Owen and Abby.

Walking The Road with Viggo Mortensen last year, Kodi Smit-McPhee is understated and sullen here as Owen, whose downtrodden existence briefly basks in the light Abby brings when she arrives late one night to live in the apartment next door. So begins an unlikely friendship between the two in a small town in the grip of a seemingly never ending winter. The arrival of Abby and her father has deadly ramifications for some of the townsfolk, and will change the life of the introverted Owen.

Chloe Moretz continues her welcome ubiquity with her role as Abby, whose real identity is given up in the trailers but she embodies this creature with the weight of dependence and naivety that is every bit as good as the performance of Lina Leandersson. She is haunted and curious, a controlled and menacing presence when she needs to be and is a key reason why this films works so well.

The adults in this movie don’t get much further than ‘incompetent teacher’ or ‘unsuspecting victim’ and as an example Owen’s Mother is a shadow in the film. Reeves never even shows her face except in the reflection of a window, blurred by distance or hidden beneath her arms as she sleeps off the ravages of her alcoholism. It’s a brave move asking two such young actors to carry the film but they do do brilliantly, with great heart and fierce talent. Key to their relationship is the strain and release of adolescence, to be dependent on adults while yearning to walk unaided and discover their stride in the world.

Reeves adds only a few gruesome shots to the film, mainly in the moments when Abby attacks, and this is a wise move. The much talked of car crash scene is expertly handled and throughout there were small details and subtleties which made me smile. Clearly Reeves knows what he’s doing, and understands the power of the original and also how to bring the story fresh to a new audience. Indeed, while I love the original film and knew more or less what was coming, I never missed it, or even thought to compare the two.

I was only taken out of the film when an unwelcome use of CG was thrown in, seemingly without cause and for a moment I worried this version had misunderstood the genuinely frightening premise of what appears to be a child carrying out these deeds. But these were momentary missteps and didn’t overshadow the film. Its triumph was in the performances, never mind the supernatural or murder mystery elements. It is a love story as tragic in its own way as the Shakespeare play Owen is studying at school and the two leads were exceptional, with Reeves seducing the audience into their friendship then twisting the knife with the final realisation as to the fate of the pair.

The moral complexity of the relationship between Owen and Abby is perfectly balanced between Owen’s emotional nakedness and complete desire for some kind of connection with Abby’s reluctant courting in order to stay alive. Let Me In is everything it needed to be. A genuinely affecting and emotionally engaging horror that wastes no time with extraneous additions; it doesn’t need to differentiate itself from the Swedish film and is all the stronger for it.

Surprisingly I’d happily recommend this to fans of the original, and to those who haven’t yet enjoyed the previous version. It is far distant from the littered wasteland of dire remakes and substandard rip offs which the horror genre has attracted of late. It succeeds not as a remake of a great film, it succeeds because it is a great film, and that’s the best I could have hoped for.

So, expect a few more of these TV spots to hit in the run up and on seeing this new one it may be better to start avoiding them.

While this new spot doesn’t give away anything new, it does explicitly state the nature of Chloe Moretz’s character, which is the original film adaptation is the source of great mystery and will not be known by everyone.

Let Me In is directed by Matt Reeves and is a remake of the awesome Swedish movie, Let the Right One in. The US version stars Chloe Moretz, Kodi Smit-McPheeElias Koteas, Richard Jenkins and is directed by Matt Reeves.

It’s scheduled for release in the UK 5th November.

Synopsis: Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl from Kick-Ass) stars as Abby, a secretive 12-year old girl, who moves next door to Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Road). Owen is a social outcast who is viciously bullied at school and in his loneliness, forms a profound bond with his new neighbour. Owen can’t help noticing that Abby is like no one he has ever met before. As a string of grisly murders occupy the town, Owen has to confront the reality that this seemingly innocent girl is really a savage vampire.

Let Me In, a haunting and provocative thriller written and directed by filmmaker Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and produced by legendary British horror brand Hammer Films, is an astonishing coming-of-age story between a young girl and an alienated young boy unlike any other you have seen. Based on the best-selling Swedish novel Lat den Ratte Komma (Let The Right One In) by John Ajvide Lindqvist, and the highly-acclaimed film of the same name, Let Me In takes audiences straight to the troubled heart of adolescent longing and loneliness.
