Hollywood Reporter has announced that Dreamworks Studios has picked up a pitch for an original comedy film scripted by television writer Les Firestein. Steve Carell is currently attached to star in the project, as well as producing it through his company Carousel Productions.

Dreamworks are currently remaining tight-lipped about the storyline, although the title apparently relates to someone being raised by a character called “Wolfs”, rather than some sort of Nell-esque feral child plot.

Carell is a busy guy at the moment. He has already had Date Night and Despicable Me out this year, Dinner for Schmucks is coming soon and he still has Missing Links, Mail Order Groom and Hi-T in the pipeline. I think that between him, Karl Urban and Sam Worthington they are trying to appear in every new film being made in the next 12 months.

In related news, NBC also confirmed on Tuesday that Carell will quit “The Office” at the end of the next season. We’ll bring you more news on casting and storyline for “Wolfs” as we hear it.

With the release of new comedy movie, Date Night this week, it only seems fitting that I post some interviews with the stars of the movie. Our friend James Kleinmann has been lucky enough to help us in this task by interviewing the two leads, Steve Carrell and Tina Fey and the director, Shawn Levy to give us an insight into the movie and what we can expect.

Synopsis: Phil (STEVE CARELL) and Claire Foster (TINA FEY) are a sensible, loving couple with two kids and a house in suburban New Jersey. The Fosters have their weekly “date night” – an attempt at re-experiencing the spice of the dates of yesteryear, involving the same weekly night out at the local Teaneck Tavern. Exhausted from their jobs and kids, their dates rarely end in fore- or any other kind of play, let alone romance.

In an attempt to take date night off auto-pilot, and hopefully inject a little spice into their lives, Phil decides a change of plans is in order: take Claire into Manhattan to the city’s hottest new restaurant. The Fosters, however, don’t have reservations. Hoping to be seated sometime before the clock strikes twelve, they steal a no-show couple’s reservations. What could it hurt? Phil and Claire are now the Tripplehorns.

Following the images from the Ricky Gervais comedy Cemetary Junction we posted earlier we have been presented with a still from the forthcoming Tina Fey and Steve Carrell rom-com Date Night.

The good people at LoveFilm had their hands on this first and this is their synopsis:

Also starring James Franco and Mark Wahlberg, Date Night promises to tickle your funnybone. Claire (Fey) and Phil Foster (Carrel) are a suburban couple up against the daily monotony of life. To reignite their marital spark, they visit a trendy Manhattan bistro on a regular ‘date night’.

However, when the couple decide to adopt another couple’s identity, so they can sit at trendiest table in the house, they are unexpectedly flung on a wild goose chase. Remembering what made them so special together, Phil and Claire take on a couple of corrupt cops, a top-level mobster and a crazed cabbie as their date becomes a night they’ll never forget

With the cast this film has it should be a lot funnier than other, more pitiful, attempts at rom-comming we’ve seen recently. The calibre of Fey and Carrell is undisputed and their respective US shows should provide a wide audience for this film.

Here’s the brand new trailer for what looks like a rom-com which then turns into an all out action flick. Date Night stars Steve Carrell, Tina Fey, Taraji P. Henson, Common and Mark Wahlberg, is directed by Shawn Levy and is scheduled for release 9th April 2010. The trailer looks pretty funny and although it’s not the most original story in the world, it looks like Steve Carrel has made another classic.
