Given how much we enjoyed the movie, it seemed only sensible to head down and grab a few quick interviews with the cast and crew, hopefully managing to steer clear of any spooky goings on while we were there.

In the video below we speak to Simon Oakes, James Watkins and Jane Goldman, respectively the producer, director and writer of the film, as well as stars Daniel Radcliffe, Ciaran Hinds and Liz White. We also caught up with comedian Jimmy Carr and Orange BAFTA Rising Stars Award nominee Adam Deacon to find out what they hoped to see from the film, as well as chatting with our my favourite Goonie, Corey Feldman, who gave us his advice for Daniel Radcliffe as he transitions from child star to adult actor.

Over the course of the next few hours we will be publishing longer versions of our interviews with Radcliffe, Hinds, Oakes, Watkins and Goldman, as well as interviews with the film’s executive producers. We’ll also put up the full version of our chat with Jimmy Carr (he came across as such a film fan, it seems wrong not to).

Yesterday we found that a double dose of ‘The’ Feldman was heading our way with two very distinct projects on the go.

The first is some reality show with some fancy ice-skating which goes by the name of Dancing on Ice in which throws some long lost stars of TV and film converge to pull on the blades and gambol around winning hearts and encouraging the masses to vote for them.

All of which is leading me to this picture…

You’re welcome.

So be sure to tune in to ITV for watch the whole shebang, or if goresoaked horror is more your thing then check out the new trailer for Corey F’s latest film, which is entitled Six Degrees of Hell from director Joe Raffa which has the following for a synopsis,

Six people and their lives are stitched together by a supernatural force that has laid claim to one of them. A Halloween haunted establishment is ground zero for a paranormal perfect storm inadvertently touched off by a seemingly random series of events.

The trailer isn’t embeddable and contains things NSFW including Extended Clown Horror, Zombie Nudity and Smoking.

Although it was first released in 1989, The ‘Burbs is still as exciting and watchable as ever. Over two decades later, the film still confronts current issues, albeit slightly dramatised.

A black comedy/thriller, The ‘Burbs is set in a small suburban town, Hinkley Hills, and follows suburbanite Ray Petersen as he and his friends investigate the strange, new next door neighbours. Ray (Tom Hanks) starts to hear weird noises from The Klopeks’ house at night and, seeing as they never appear in the daytime, begins to investigate. Ray and his trusted friends start to believe they might be up to something untoward – cue 102 minutes of adventure that takes place simply in a cul-de-sac.

The cast line-up goes a long way in helping to make this movie so special. Tom Hanks is his usual self, bringing a healthy mix of sarcasm and charisma to the screen. His chemistry with on-screen wife Carrie Fisher is brilliant and they play a realistic, agitated married couple. She is pre-occupied with getting away from the suburbs for a holiday; he is completely enthralled and focused on what’s happening in his own backyard.

Bruce Dern plays the eccentric Lt. Mark Rumsfield, who is constantly dressed in his army gear and spends his days trying to keep his lawn pristine and safe from dog poop. Rick Ducommon is Ray’s slightly chubby best friend Art and Corey Feldman (The Goonies) is ‘rock wannabe’ Ricky Butler. The casting is so good because it is so awkwardly realistic. If I were to open my front door right now and look outside, I would see very similar characters trundling along with their daily lives. Taking out the rubbish, walking the dog or mowing the lawn – mundane daily chores are all covered throughout the movie. The mixture of personalities is just pure entertainment too. Ray is sensible but easily led astray, Art is simple, Mark is slightly mad and Ricky is just, well, Ricky.

There’s a good mix of light and shade during the film, with the Klopeks creating most of the shade. The family is quite spooky and made up of a doctor, a grumpy uncle and a pale, buck-toothed teen.

The movie is not only brilliant because of the cast but also because it manages to be highly entertaining despite its limited setting. The most adventurous shot in the movie involves Ray and Dr Werner Klopek (Henry Gibson) battling it out in a moving ambulance while their helpless neighbours watch on in disbelief. There are also some major action shots, including one of the last scenes where Ray and Art accidentally blow up a house. The majority of the film takes place within the cul-de-sac, on the street and in backyards. The scene inside the Klopek house is a rare insight into the strange neighbours. Despite the repetitive setting, the film has a way of making you want to join in with the conspiracies and uncover the truth.

The reason I love The ‘Burbs is not only because it makes me chuckle, it’s because it tackles so many endless themes. Normality, territorial threats, suspicion, paranoia and friendship are all explored. While there have been other movies based on suburban life (American Beauty, Neighbors, Moving) none of them do it as well. Joe Dante’s The ‘Burbs is laced with intricacy, humour and is slightly spooky – so for me it pushes all the right buttons.

1959. Four friends, Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern hear that a dead body has been found near the railway tracks many miles away from their home town of Castle Rock, Oregon. Although they are only 12 years old and expect a hiding from their parents, they hatch a plan to set off to find the body, hoping for fame and glory but instead finding out and disclosing to each other an awful lot about themselves.

*****

With Super 8 fresh in many people’s minds, a film about a group of young friends on the cusp of adolescence embarking on an adventure and “coming of age” in the process of some sort of “rite of passage” will sound familiar, maybe even clichéd. Nothing could be further from the truth when considering Stand By Me. Made in 1986 and featuring an absolutely impeccably cast group of young boys, Stand By Me speaks volumes about the nature of friendship when you are twelve, the emotional upheaval involved in finding your place and your way in the world, the challenges we face in trying to overcome the disadvantages of our upbringing and the deep-seated pain caused by sometimes thoughtless, sometimes neglectful parents and teachers.

Each character is given a thoughtful, considered and distinctive backstory. Teddy (Corey Feldman) has an abusive father who has now been committed to an institution, but not before pushing Teddy’s ear down onto a hot stove. Vern (a nigh-on unrecognisable Jerry O’Connell) is initially dismissed as the silly, chubby one, but desperately wants to be a proper part of the gang, having overheard his older brother talking about the body and first brought to his friends the idea of looking for it. Gordie is a gifted writer, but is virtually ignored by his parents who have emotionally shut down following the death of Gordie’s beloved big brother (a brief but affecting cameo from John Cusack) and Gordie can’t shake the feeling that everyone wishes he had died instead of his brother. As Gordie breaks down at the end, sobbing “my Dad hates me”, your heart breaks for the pain that his young shoulders are trying to carry. Chris (River Phoenix) is the leader of the gang, the most mature and confident of them, but he has been branded a thief over an incident with milk money at school and feels shackled by the reputation of his family.

All of this sounds pretty bleak and oppressive, so it is to director Rob Reiner (Spinal Tap, Misery, The American President)’s eternal credit that he manages to balance the tone so well. Yes, there are times where his young cast break down in mesmerisingly convincing tears or well-up with deep-seated rage, but there is also breathless excitement, laughter, adventure, private jokes, ribbing, peril, camaraderie. You almost never catch them “acting”, a phenomenal achievement for any young cast, but especially when you consider how inexperienced most of them were. The two weeks they spent rehearsing before shooting pays off in spades in building the sense that these boys have been friends for years.

What also represents a terrific achievement for Reiner is that the whole adventure, all of the back stories, the bookend segments with Gordie played as a grown-up with his own family by Richard Dreyfuss and several flash-backs (plus one peerless fire-side story about a blueberry pie-eating contest) fits in seemingly effortlessly to a compact 90-minute running time. So many film-makers these days seem unable to make difficult editing choices and we get summer tentpole blockbusters coming in at over 2 1/2 hours for no discernible reason.

Flawlessly acted, beautifully shot, heart-achingly moving and affecting, at times rip-roaringly exciting and incomparably and unashamedly nostalgic. Much as I greatly loved Super 8, it is but a pale imitation of how Rob Reiner showed this sort of thing really should be done. If you haven’t seen it before, do so immediately. If you have, see it again. And again. Wonderful.

***** (5/5)

Blu-ray Extras: First of all, the Blu-ray transfer is excellent for this well-timed 25 year anniversary re-release. I’ve seen sharper Blu-rays, but given the 1959 setting and the nostalgic tone, it is fitting that it be a little softer around the edges. The special features are a mixture of old and new.

Bluray Exclusive: In picture commentary from Rob Reiner, Cory Feldman and Wil Wheaton. This is really interesting stuff for the most part, with recollections by one sparking the others off and each of them bringing different perspectives. Feldman’s frustration at himself not being able to have helped River in the period leading up to his death is moving to behold and in River’s key scenes a mournful hush descends over them all as they consider the premature loss of so considerable a talent. At one point Wil Wheaton relays a conversation he had with Sean Astin, wherein Astin said he would trade Wheaton Lord of the Rings for Stand By Me, showing just how significant a film this is in the hearts of that generation. Wheaton and Feldman share which lines tend to get called out to them, or quoted by their own children and Rob Reiner brings out a lot of interesting background as well.

Audio Commentary by Rob Reiner. A lot of this is repeated in the in-screen commentary, but there are a few new morsels to savour.

Making of Documentary. This dates back to 2000, so we see Wheaton, Reiner, Kiefer Sutherland, O’Connell and Feldman looking a lot younger than they do now. It runs to 30 minutes and is generally informative and not too gushy, with input this time from Stephen King, who wrote the source novel and was 12 himself (just like Reiner) at the time the story is set.

Music Video and Trailers.

I was absolutely chuffed by the fact that one of my all-time favourite movie quotes was somehow connected to one of the best movie blogging sites I’d ever come across online! Talk about finding rich stuff… and for real too! My inner movie geek was in seventh heaven! I befriended co-founders Dave and Jon and loved keeping track of HUG’s journey… it was so great to see the site blossom and grow and get to know the lads a bit too.

Upon my return from Japan in December 2009, I decided that I really wanted to get on board Team HUG. My passion for film drew me here and I wanted to see if I could offer any of my own movie musings, so I officially came aboard in January 2010. Sinking my teeth straight into a couple of my own must-see movie recommendations, and freshly inspired by my Japanese adventure, I decided it was high-time that two of my favourite films got some recognition in cyberspace. My Neighbour Totoro and Kikujiro were my very first movies I reviewed here and they paved the way for me to cover and attend press screenings for the site too! So much fun!!! Attending events was another incredibly exciting draw and a rewarding experience for me too. I went to the grand opening of Vue Westfield which was an electric evening. The lovely and talented actress Anna Friel officially opened this brand, spanking new cinema complex in one of the most extravagant shopping centres I’d ever been to. I even saw legendary Film Critic Barry Norman being interviewed there that night. Unbelievable!

I also got to attend two Alfred Dunhill Bafta Life in Pictures events this year. First up was an evening with acclaimed French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. I couldn’t believe I was sitting right in front of the man who brought Amelie to life on the big screen. Never in a million years did I think I’d ever be in his presence let alone get to meet him at the end of the evening!! He really was such an interesting, lovely and funny man.

Up next was the luscious and fabulously talented, Oscar nominated British actor Colin Firth. Once again, I could not believe my luck that I had the best view of one of Britain’s finest and most gorgeous actors! A really unforgettable evening and one I have to still keep apologising for to all my female friends I could not bring along with me.

By now I’d had a taste of covering events and writing reviews for the site, so I decided to give interviewing a whirl. I looked up one of my favourite 80s actors, Keith Coogan and arranged this interview with him. In a sad turn of events in March, 80s legend Corey Haim passed away, and as I’d recently spoken to Keith, we decided it’d be fitting to dedicate some time to discussing the popularity of nostalgia in Hollywood. We invited Keith to participate in one of our Mouth Off Podcasts. We discussed the concept of nostalgia and the death of 80s icon Corey Haim. Getting to actually speak to Keith, with Jon and Brendon, was an absolute joy but given the circumstances of how our Podcast came about, it was a bittersweet experience too. In any event, it was absolutely nerve-racking actually doing a Podcast but the guys made it such a fun time, most of my nerves disappeared once we got into the groove of things and laughed and talked fondly about which John Hughes film was our favourite… good times.

The penultimate experience for me at HeyUGuys this year has to be getting to cover the 25th anniversary of The Goonies for HeyUGuys. Travelling to Astoria, Oregon… home of the Goon Docks really was a trip of a lifetime. I was able interview stars of the film Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Joe Pantoliano, as well as legendary Hollywood Director Richard Donner. It’s definitely one for the books and will forever be a defining moment for me, meeting and interviewing my childhood idols. Richard Donner, in particular, really was a true gentleman and just oozed old-school Hollywood cool. When I told him about the history of HeyUGuys, he was thrilled to hear how a movie he’d worked on, helped inspire an award-winning site all the way from the London. Can’t believe I got to have my picture taken with the guys post-interview. It still seems very surreal but am eternally grateful to HUG for helping me fulfill one of my all-time childhood dreams.

I’ve had a phenomenal and inspiring year aboard Team HUG and cannot thank the guys enough for welcoming me into the fold. The experience , however, would not have been anywhere near as rewarding or as ful-filling had it not been for all the boys and girls on the team. I’ve been so lucky to meet and talk with amazing cast and crew and friends of the site this year. If I think about it too long it doesn’t seem real, but the best and richest experience of all has been meeting my fellow HUGger. I couldn’t have asked to meet a nicer bunch of movie loving geeks than this lot and going to HUG quizzes and hittin’ the pub for some downtime with these guys has just been the cherry on the top.

We’re not all based in the UK and therefore have not all met….. yet, but I know when that day comes it’ll be absolutely amazing. I just can’t imagine this past year without them and I know the site is the success it is because of them. Thanks to THESE guys for an incredible year, to the fans and readers here and on our Facebook page who’ve been answering our questions everyday and to everyone who has contributed to the site one way or another.

Cheers to an even bigger and better 2011!

Talking to MovieWebb, Feldman seems to be the sole figure (particularly after the death of previous co-star Corey Haim earlier this year) spearheading the return of the franchise and after only a two year gap between ‘Thirst’ and the first sequel (Lost Boys: The Tribe) he’s interesting in jumping aboard again if the market for yet another sequel is there.

“Next time around hopefully we can incorporate even more stuff that I was looking to get in. I definitely don’t want to be going backwards so I want to make sure that each time we do it, if we are going to do it again, its got to be bigger and better than the last one.”

Feldman should focus his energy on getting behind a sequel to The Goonies (which is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary with a re-release on Blu-ray on DVD). I’m sure the idea of finding out what happened to the inhabitants of The Goon Docks following the decades since their discovery of One-Eyed Willy would prove a more interesting prospect than yet another DTV retread of The Lost Boys.

What do you think?

The original Lost Boys movie started a wave of new, original vampire movies back when it was released in 1987. The sequel to Lost Boy was called, The Tribe and was released straight to DVD in 2008. Right at the end of the movie, there was a cameo from Corey Haim who seemingly appeared as a vampire as an added extra to fans of the original movie. Haim tragically died earlier this year but was not set to appear in the third movie which has the title, Lost Boys: The Thirst.

The cast does include the legend that is, Corey Feldman alongside Jamison Newlander, Sean Cameron Michael, Seb Catang, Tanit Phoenix and is directed by Dario Piana. You may recognise Newlander when you watch the trailer (embedded below) as he played one of the Frog brothers in the original movie as we get to see him back for the third installment.

Warner Home Video have been kind enough to give us a couple of exclusive clips that can be found in the Blu-ray extras for the movie which are also embedded below along with a collection of rather awesome images from the movie and one from the original Lost Boys.

Lost Boys: The Thirst is released in the US 12th October and in the UK 18th October. You can pre-order your copy here.

Today is an important day… okay it’s not really that important but it is a Friday the 13th and you should probably be watching a Friday the 13th film in honour of this day. How do you decide which one to watch though? You could watch all of them (this is possible in one day – trust me) but I’m sure you’ve got not got twenty hours on your hands right now.

You’ve therefore got a difficult decision on your hands. If you’ve never seen a Friday the 13th film my recommendation would of course be the first one so that you can find out where it all began but if you’re already a Friday the 13th fan, which is your favourite?

To be honest, despite the canonical importance of the first one though, my favourite is Part VI: Jason Lives. I was recently chatting about this subject to Chris Alexander, the editor of Fangoria, after he professed a love of Part III, and he pointed out that your favourite probably has a lot to do with when you saw it. My first experience of Part VI was as the sixth film into a marathon of all the films and this fun Friday the 13th was exactly what I needed.

I’m sure you all have different experiences though and a different favourite so let us know. Leave your favourite and first experience in the commments, on Twitter, on Facebook or in our Forum.

In case you need a reminder you can check out Gary’s post from Halloween last year where he reviewed all the Friday the 13th films or check out the brief run down of your options below (with editorializing from me):

Friday the 13th (1980)

The first and some would argue the best. The first Friday the 13th sees Mrs Vorhees kill a group of teenagers at the now (in)famous Camp Crystal Lake. With some iconic and gory deaths (thanks to special effects master Tom, Savini) and a wonderful jump scare ending the first Friday the 13th helped define the direction of the franchise and in many ways slasher films that followed. This entry also gets bonus points for introducing ‘strip monopoly’ to the world.

Friday the 13th Part 2

Released just one year later Friday the 13th Part 2 features a bunch of kids arriving at the camp for a counselling training course but Jason interrupts this with violent slaughter. Part 2 tries hard to recapture a lot of what made the first film great but is a little disapointing by comparison. The worst part about this instalment though is that it features the death of my second (Jason’s first obviously) favourite character in the Friday the 13th franchise, Crazy Ralph.

Friday the 13th Part III

Friday the 13th… In 3D!! I have watched Friday the 13th in 3D (the red blue anaglyph version) and despite a couple of amusing moments, the eyeball scene is great, the 3D was a pretty daft gimmick and seriously headache inducing. I’ve been reliably informed though that there is a version that uses the polarised 3D technique and is much better. Part III begins the day after Part 2 (that’s Saturday, right?) and sees a whole bunch of new kids killed by Jason. Part III does have some pretty solid death scenes, most gratifying is the despatching of the franchise’s most annoying character, Shelly, and it’s also significant as Part III introduces the iconic hockey mask.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

Set the day after Part III (Sunday?!) this is obviously not the final chapter but does feature the ‘death’ of Jason at the hands of Tommy Jarvis (Corey Feldman). I’m not a fan of The Final Chapter although it is well liked by a lot of fans. The Final Chapter does feature one of the best window smashing scenes though (a strange recurring theme in Friday the 13th) thanks to Tommy’s dog.

Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning

This is my least favourite Friday the 13th film, mostly due to the fact that it doesn’t feel like a Friday the 13th film and although this could have been a wise and exciting attempt to revive the franchise the film is pretty dull. The now teenage Tommy (from The Final Chapter) is living in a mental institution and as deaths start to mount up he begins to wonder if maybe Jason has come back…

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives

My favourite Friday the 13th film and one that also represents the total abandonment of any sense of continuity in the series. Completely ignoring the fifth film Tommy is again the central character but this time he is a dumb teenager who accidentally revives Jason. Jason Lives is perhaps the most fun Friday the 13th film and despite being light on scares or horror the fast pace and enjoyable sequences make it very entertaining.

Friday the 13th VII: The New Blood

The first Friday the 13th film to feature the mighty Kane Hodder as Jason. Unfortunately the film also features Tina the telekinetic. In this instalment the franchise takes a supernatural diversion as Jason is pitted against Tina and her strange powers. The pacing in New Blood feels a bit leaden but it is still a pretty solid entry and Hodder is fantastic, especially in the iconic sleeping bag scene.

Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Jason takes a cruise ship not Manhattan. In a pretty fantastic piece of exploitation advertising Jason Takes Manhattan actually features very few scenes in Manhattan but it did help make for a great poster and trailer. The film is a little uneven but there are some great moments, namely the scene in which teenage promiscuity literally brings Jason back and a decapitation scene that is a work of glorious deadpan humour.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday

Yet again the franchise attempts to end with The Final Friday but with a final shot that teases a Freddy/Jason showdown, this obviously isn’t the end of Friday the 13th. One of the worst of the Friday the 13th films, The Final Friday doesn’t have a lot going for it apart from a bafflingly fantastic scene with a coroner and Hodder’s performance as Jason. Trivia fans may also like to know that in the final shot with Freddy grabbing the hockey mask Freddy’s arm was actually Kane Hodder’s.

Jason X

Jason in space. Three words that probably tell you everything you need to know about the tenth chapter. Friday the 13th took a little longer to get into space than other franchises (Hellraiser and Leprachaun being good examples) but there’s a lot of fun to be had when it gets there. Featuring the tagline “Evil Gets an Upgrade”, Jason X’s main pull is probably Uber-Jason, a version of Jason brought back through nano-technology. Jason X is pretty silly but it is a lot of fun and also has a cameo from David Cronenberg.

Freddy vs. Jason

Rumours about a possible Freddy vs. Jason film began following the final shot of Jason Goes to Hell and fans became increasingly fed up as ten years rolled by without the promised showdown. Then in 2003 Freddy vs Jason was released. In an effort to raise his profile and return from hell Freddy uses Jason to scare the children of Springwood but Jason goes a bit beyond his remit and the two face off. The weight of expectation for Freddy vs. Jason was probably too great for it to ever live up to but the film is nonetheless a pretty weak entry in both franchises and despite a few directorial flourishes from Ronny Yu Freddy vs. Jason was a let-down.

Friday the 13th (2009)

Probably best described as a reboot this Friday the 13th essentially redoes the second and third films and adds a few extra elements. The other elements were pretty unwelcome though for most fans, including a kidnapping, an underground lair and a crossbow. A friend of mine (another Chris, this time with the surname Pugh) put it very succinctly, “Jason’s not a survivalist”.

As I said above, let us know your thoughts…

If you live in the UK and have a Sky Movies package you can watch a host of Friday the 13th films tonight, listings below.

Since then, vampire movies seem to be coming out every other month with every studio jumping on the bandwagon. The sequel to Lost Boy was called, The Tribe and was released straight to DVD in 2008. Right at the end of the movie, there was a cameo from Corey Haim who seemingly appeared as a vampire.

Haim tragically died earlier this year but we’re pretty sure he wasn’t set to appear in this third installment of the movie this time called, Lost Boys: The Thirst. The cast does include Corey Feldman, Jamison Newlander, Sean Cameron Michael, Seb Catang, Tanit Phoenix and is directed by Dario Piana. Bloody-Disgusting have the official synopsis for the movie which again, goes straight to DVD after a couple of screenings in the US in conjunction with Comic-Con.

As the lost boys and girls of San Cazador prepare to party under the Blood Moon, an alpha vampire conspires to turn these unsuspecting ravers into an army of undead. The only thing that stands between him and the annihilation of the entire human race is the infamous vampire fighting Frog Brothers. Armed with double-barrel holy water balloon launchers and multi-arrow crossbows, Edgar (Corey Feldman) and Alan Frog (Jamison Newlander) join forces to kick some blood-sucker butt in this latest high-energy, action packed adventure in the Lost Boys franchise.”

Bloody-Disgusting also give us details of screening at Comic-Con so if you’re there, you should go along:

The title of the site you’re currently reading is called HeyUGuys as it’s a quote from one of the great 80s film of all time. The movie captured both Jon’s and my own imagination growing up so much so that we decided to start a website with a name based around the movie.

For those of you who don’t know the history of HeyUGuys.co.uk, we originally started with the idea of and 80s website. 24 hours passed and we realised that this was going to be far too niche as we wanted to write about current and future movies too. And now, here we have HeyUGuys.co.uk in it’s current form – but we still love all things 80s!

Even though the site changed, Jon and my love for The Goonies will last forever and you’ll imagine our delight and surprise when our reporter, Andy Petrou sent us these photos from Astoria, Oregon where the 25th Anniversary celebrations took place for The Goonies over the past weekend. She got to meet Corey Feldman, Sean Astin, Andy Petrou Joe Pantoliano and director, Richard Donner. Then this morning, in my inbox i receive the video with the interview she conducted and I think my mind got blown!

I’ve now edited the video which made my day and here, for your viewing pleasure, is our exclusive interview with the cast and director of….. The Goonies!

A few months ago, I was lucky enough to go over to the US for Wondercon in San Francisco. While there, I perused the stalls as everyone does at this rather unique event. During my travels, I found something that caught my eye and I’ve sort of been waiting for today to post it… why? Well, today marks exactly 25 years since The Goonies was released in the US. To mark the celebration, many of the original Goonies are in Astoria, Oregon to celebrate along with hundreds of Goonies fans from across the world.

We have Andy Petrou out there for HeyUGuys and as you can see from the photos that Jon put up, she’s having rather an awesome time meeting Cory Feldman, Sean Astin, Joe Pantoliano and director, Richard Donner. The Goonies to me is everything that I loved about my childhood. I remember watching the movie over, and over again and still to this day, it brings back so many amazing nostalgic memories of when I saw it for the first time 25 years ago (when I was 4!). I know the script inside and out and although that’s rather sad, I don’t care! Without The Goonies, HeyUGuys wouldn’t exist in this form and it’s all thanks to you!

This image was drawn by Stephen Silver (his website is Silvertoons.com where you can buy this and many more) and since I’ve been back from Wondercon, it’s been rolled up in a tube but today is the day it’s freed from this tube and placed on a wall in living memory of all things Goonies.

Thanks so much to everyone who made The Goonies possible and for making movies that live on for tens of years – to this day, will be one of the all-time classic kids movies.

The name does give it away somewhat…

Spielberg, Columbus and Donner created something wonderful with the adventures of Mikey, Mouth, Data, Chunk, Sloth, Brand, Stef and Andy and the vibrant fan community which champions the film to this day is a testament to the film’s magic.

The 7th of June 1985 marked the release of The Goonies in the US, and this weekend Goonies from all over the world gathered in Astoria in Oregon for the celebrations and our own Andy Petrou is out there, and sent us this picture.

Everyone has a film which captured their imagination as a child, and for many of us The Goonies was that film. It was our first crush in what became a love of film, and was a great example of what a good, enjoyable film could do, and while we’re not immune to criticism of the movie (we usually don our rose tints when watching the film again), the fact that it played its part in our movie going lives is important.

So, this is not just to celebrate The Goonies film, some people prefer Back to the Future, others outright hate it, but for us, who saw it at just the right time in our lives, it’s an important connection to our past, and to those early movie going experiences which have continued and evolved to this day.

To some extent we’re all still Goonies at heart, and whatever that means to us personally, today is a good time to celebrate that.

Happy Birthday to all U Guys!

You can expect fangs and bikins along with a thrust of nostalgia in the form of Corey Feldman, and though I would have loved to see the rumoured Sam Vs Edgar face off the sad death of Corey Haim means Corey F is on his own for this one.

The guys over at JoBlo have scored the batch of images from the set and you can see them below. The last time we posted a Lost Boys 3 post we got an unexpected amount of positive feedback so there are clearly a lot of people eager for this one.

When news came out back in 2008 that a sequel to the classic 80s movie, The Lost Boys was going to be made, mixed opinions started to form as to whether it was a good idea and whether it would be any good. It was a straight to DVD release and when I saw Lost Boys: The Tribe, it made an OK movie but didn’t have the originality that the first movie did. We we knew that would happen didn’t we?

Dread Central have now debuted the trailer for the third installment of the Lost Boys franchise, this time called Lost Boys: The Thirst which sees 80s legend, Corey Feldman as Edgar Frog back to fight the vampire once again, this time ably assisted by his brother Alan Frog (Jamison Newlander) who we saw in the first movie.

From this new trailer, it looks like an OK movie which has the potential to be better than the second but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I would bet my bottom dollar than this movie will be made in honour of Corey Haim who sadly died earlier this year. You’ll remember him from the original The Lost Boys movie playing the lead role as Sam.

Lost Boys: The Thirst also stars Jamison Newlander, Sean Cameron Michael, Seb Catang, Tanit Phoenix and is directed by Dario Piana.

Synopsis: When veteran vampire hunter Edgar Frog finds himself destitute and almost friendless, he thinks his life has hit bottom – but wealthy vampire-romance novelist Gwen Liebling offers him a small fortune to go on the vampire hunt of a lifetime and rescue her son Peter from the Alpha Vampire D.J.Dusk. With the help of his friends Zoe, Lars, and Blake, Edgar heads into a bloody battle to exterminate evil.

To me, Corey Haim was a fun loving and carefree guy who provided me with so many laughs when I was growing up in movies like Lost Boys and Licence to Drive. I wanted to be just like him, hang out and be mates and get up to all the same antics that he did in his movies!

As we all know, he was part of a double-act with his friend and side-kick, Corey Feldman who will be no stranger to the name of this website. They worked in numerous films together (the above 2 included) and our thoughts go out to him and Haim’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Corey Feldman has placed his own moving thoughts on his blog which I’ve embedded below. You can head over to Feldman’s website to leave comments and I’m sure he’d appreciate them.

I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren’t even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face. I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school. This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived. ~ Corey

RIP Corey Haim, you will always be a legend on the eyes of HeyUGuys.

And while the 25th anniversary of these films may make us feel a little old, we are always looking to spread the word about the celebrations going on around the world. This one is a little special…

We have details of the anniversary celebrations of The Goonies in Astoria, Oregon where The Goondocks are located, and if you’re interested in finding out more or going along you can follow the links at the end of the post.

Eager to revisit secret caves, treacherous traps and hidden treasure, fans will gather in historic Astoria, Oregon, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the cult classic film “The Goonies” June 4-7, 2010. Over the four day event, Goonies lovers can retrace the steps of characters in the film by touring filming locations including the famous “Goonies House,” bowl at “Chunk’s Bowling Alley” and more, including a possibility to mingle with original cast members.

I know. You’re all in a state of Hitchcockian suspense waiting for the next word on the third film in The Lost Boys series, and (thanks to the good guys at MovieWeb) Edgar Frog himself, Corey Feldman, has updated his personal site with the following.

Wait until you see LB3! Then you will know the depths that my art has mirrored my personal strife and how they resurface as one. In LB3 Edgar Frog emerges as a lone soldier fighting all of the evils of the world with a massive chip on his shoulder and all of the odds against him.

2009 was apparently a tough year for Corey F, but like a true pro he has made the best of it and channeled it into his work.

I embraced this character with body and soul and brought a human side to the Frog character that no one would ever see coming. I am proud of the work I have done and I believe you will be too.

There will be a future update on this film on his blog, and despite the slap of diminishing returns hurting the Lost Boys franchise it is good to see an old friend from the 80s still working and taking himself seriously.

While I can’t get too excited about The Thirst and its vampire author/Stephanie Meyer plotline there is some part of my brain that will enjoy watching Corey Feldman going apeshit crazy on a bunch of vamps.

It’ll do until we see the inevitable Corey Vs. Corey fang off in Lost Boys 4.

As you may know Lost Boys 2: The Tribe didn’t set the world on fire, but that hasn’t stopped two sequels being forced at gunpoint into production, and now the leading lady for LB number 3 has been revealed.

Shock Till You Drop have the scoop on the casting of the Twilight-esque Vampire Author whose son is kidnapped by a Fang Gang and calls on our favourite Frog brother into battle. She is Tanit Phoenix, an actor/model whose imdb profile looks a touch sparse but that’s not to say that she won’t sell a few tickets as long as they pick a tasteful picture on the posters.

As I’ve maintained from the outset – No Double Corey? No sell. It’s the simplest thing – we’re not expecting Shakespeare with fangs (and that’s an idea that bound to be picked up by the time you’ve read the end of this sentence) but play on our nostalgia and give us Corey vs. Corey.

Yes, you read that right – Lost Boys 4…

Despite a critical mauling it received the Lost Boys sequel subtitled The Tribe released last year did well enough to warrant a third film in the series, which you can read about here.

It seems we’re overrun with vampire franchises these days, and certainly each generation reinvents the myth and twenty years ago we had the seminal 80s flick The Lost Boys, and thanks to the lure of the nostalgia market we’ll be seeing a Lost Boys film every year from now until the end of time.

So says MovieWeb, who in their conversations with Messrs Haim and Feldman, confirmed that while Haim wont’ be joining Feldman’s Edgar Frog in LB 3 he will return to reunite the team in the fourth film, though with a difference (which keen viewers of Lost Boys 2 will know about).

This is perfect news for the first birthday of HeyUGuys as it exemplifies where the industry is in terms of walking the fine line between continuing great stories and characters from the past and the shameless ransacking of our faded memories of franchises for cash.

We love the films we grew up with and we take our name from one of our favourites, we’ll keep a keen, though cynical eye on these films.

The Lost Boys is a HeyUGuys favourite, and one hell of a vampire film. It was a fresh take on the vampire movie after decades of Hammer domination, and made stars of Keifer Sutherland and our friends, the Two Coreys.

Given that we’ve been in full nostalgia overload for the past few years it came as no surprise when the Lost Boys were found once again, updated in the anaemic sequel of last year: Lost Boys 2: The Tribe.

While Corey Feldman reassumed his role as Edgar Frog there was little to enjoy here as twenty years distance had offered nothing new to the Lost Boys mythology, and the skateboarding vamps were about as scary as Mary Poppins eating a cupcake. Worst of all the hazy angst of the first film was lost in favour of a fast paced gore fest, and so much of what made the original great was absent.

Good news then that the Lost Boys train looks set to run fully off the rails this time, as plot details emerge of Lost Boys 3: The Thirst.

This news comes to us via /Film who are quoting Production Weekly in detailing the ‘plot’ of the threequel:

When veteran vampire hunter Edgar Frog finds himself destitute and almost friendless, when [sic] a wealthy vampire-romance novelist offers him a small fortune to go on the vampire hunt of a lifetime and rescue her son.

Like, OME! While I watched Lost Boys 2 with not a little nostalgic whimsy I barely can read the sentence above without wishing the last nail in the Lost Boys be hammered shut. Nodding casually to Twilight is one thing, trying to leap onto the bandwagon in such a ridiculous manner is absurd. Casting Robert Pattinson is the only way to save this one.

And as if we needed any more bad news those who endured Lost Boys 2 to the bitter end were treated to a short cameo setting up the next film perfectly with the return of an old friend – I’m not going to spoil it, but LB fans will know what I’m talking about. As it happens the ‘old friend’ won’t be returning for the third film rendering it a bootless and deplorable end to the Lost Boys series.
