Here’s a new image of Johnny Depp and co-star and former Bond Girl, Eva Green from their new movie Dark Shadows with Eva sporting a lovely blonde barnet. Dark Shadows is the latest from Tim Burton which probably goes without saying when you look at the styling of the image below and those we’ve seen so far from the movie. I’m about to wriote the rest of the cast down. Can you guess who it might be?! OK, let me put you out of your misery.

On Monday night, London Town saw the UK Premiere of Martin Scorcese’s new movie, Hugo and many of the stars of the film were in attendance. Our friends from Upbeat were on the carpet ready to chat with them all and the footage is below for your viewing pleasure. They chat with writers, Brian Selznick & John Logan, stars of the movie – Asa Butterfield, Helen McCrory and Sir Ben Kingsley.

Martin Scorsese seems unlikely as the next director to try his hand at 3D. He has given us plenty of visual spectacle in his films, but 3D always seemed like the sort of gimmick that would go against his artistic sensibilities. Well, like it or not, a director with credentials as impeccable as Scorsese’s has now gone over to the dark side and we will see the fruit of his labours before too long.

With the release date fast approaching, Howard Shore, composing for Scorsese for the umpteenth time (they collaborated on The Aviator, Gangs of New York and The Departed most recently) sat down with Variety to discuss how this score came together. The opening 10 minutes of the film is apparently virtually dialogue free, leaving Shore’s score very much front and centre:-

“The score uses a lot of themes and motifs and variations,” says Shore, “It’s written in an older style. In the first reel of the film, the first 10 minutes, you hear seven main themes of the film. It’s a very through-composed piece. … The score is about an hour and 45 minutes — a really extensive score for one of Marty’s films.”

Shore adds that he was greatly assisted by the copiously illustrated 2007 issue of the source book, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” and sought to work with instruments that would have featured in the time period – turn of the (20th) century France:-

“Not only is the writing very good, but the illustrations and the design of the book are wonderful. So it brought me into the story very early, in a very vivid way. The Ondes Martenot (an early electronic keyboard from the late ’20s) was used. Other solo instruments included guitars and percussion from the late ’20s/early ’30s. Piano was also used very specifically for a sound from the late ’20s … (I also used) musette, a French accordion. Symphony orchestra was the primary instrument used, and then there’s a sextet, a small group, that was really part of the orchestra, and they became the soloists that you hear through the film.”

With his work on Hugo now done, Shore has returned to Peter Jackson, with whom he successfully worked on the Lord of the Rings films, to score the two-part adaptation of The Hobbit.

Here’s another new poster for Martin Scorsese’s new movie, Hugo. I do like this poster but it has to be said that it looks just like the Robert Zemeckis movies, The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol but it’s quite possible the same designer was responsible for all three.

I’ve just done a bit of research and it would actually that BLT & Associates were responsible for creating both the Christmas Carol and Hugo posters while The Cimarron Group were responsible for The Polar Express poster. I guess it’s the trademark of a company to create similar looking posters but when I look at this new Hugo poster, I really do just see the Christmas Carol marketing campaign. Entertainment Films have sent us this new 90 second UK trailer for Martin Scorsese’s new movie, Hugo which is set for release 2nd December 2011. I’ve called it a trailer but it’s more of a featurette with Scorsese giving information on what the story is about throughout it but it’s a really nice way in which they’ve done it. In the past couple of weeks, we’ve had a few great pictures and a featurette for Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated next feature film, Hugo.

The film is set to be a slightly different affair to his last two films, The Departed and last year’s Shutter Island, with more of a family adventure film feel expected in Hugo.

A new international poster for the film has arisen over at FilmoFilia, giving us a look at Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) as the young lead, Hugo Cabret.

“Based on the best-selling children’s historical fiction book by author Brian Selznick, Hugo tells the story of an orphan boy Hugo Cabret (Asa Butterfield) living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station. With the help of an eccentric girl, he searches for the answer to a mystery linking the father he recently lost, the ill-tempered toy shop owner living below him and a heart shaped lock, seemingly without a key.”

The film, written by the awesome John Logan (The Last Samurai, Gladiator), has an absolutely terrific cast alongside Butterfield, including Chloë Grace Mortez (Kick-Ass), Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Christopher Lee (The Lord of the Rings), Emily Mortimer (Shutter Island), Sacha Baron Cohen (Brüno), Sir Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island), and Ray Winstone (The Departed).

A rough translation of the French text on the poster, via Google Translate, reads, ‘Unravel the mystery on 14^th December,’ or (roughly) literally, ‘Discover the key to the mystery on 14^th December,’ which fits in with the imagery of the key we’ve seen on the first official poster that came out back in the summer alongside the trailer.

Luckily for us, we’ll be getting this a little earlier than France, with a UK release date scheduled for 2^nd December, just a month and a half away. There are big names both before and behind the camera for The Texas Killing Fields with Ami Canaan Mann’s film being produced by her father Michael, and Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastain and Chloe Moretz telling the story of two detectives from very different parts of America joining forces to try and solve a killing spree which has lasted decades.

It’s a fine cast and the trailer we saw recently did its job well and to complement what we’ve already seen our good pals at Upbeat spoke to the cast and crew about the film which is out in the UK this weekend.

If you were one of the lucky ones who took a chance on the secret screening at this year’s New York Film Festival then you can feel pretty pleased with yourselves as it was revealed yesterday that a ‘work-in-progress’ print of Martin Scorsese’s 3D adaptation of Brian Selznick’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret, or Hugo to his mulitplex friends, would be that secret film.

To say I’m jealous would be a terrifying understateent, as I’ve followed the production with great enthusiasm since it was announced that Scorsese would be taking on the project,  a beautiful story wrapped up in a love of the magic of cinema, and everything I’ve seen so far has done nothing to dampen my spirits.

Today we see a new featurette from the film with Scorsese himself talking us through his take on the tale with some new footage spliced in there too. Also a couple of new pics have emerged which show off the wonderful production design.

A Thanksgiving release for a 3D kids film from Scorsese will be a new experience for director and audiences alike but if there’s as much magic in this film as in the lost world of silent cinema it celebrates then we’re in for something special.

I’m still a little miffed that it was decided to excise ‘The Invention of’ and then ‘Cabret’ from the title of Brian Selznick’s wonderful novel to leave us with the rather dull title of ‘Hugo’, yet I’m still very much looking forward to Martin Scorsese’s first dalliance with the third dimension as he tells the story of the titular orphan discovering the truth and legacy of the old toymaker whose shop sits in the Paris railway station in whose walls he lives.

There’s a cracking cast for this film with Asa Butterfield and Chloe Moretz leading  Jude Law, Richard Griffiths, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Lee, Sacha Baron Cohen, Emily Mortimer, Helen McCrory and Ray Winstone in this 3D extravaganza which takes in everything from automatons to the magic of the silent cinema.

The only trailer we’ve seen was a lot of fun and given the period setting every new glimpse we get of the film is riddled with detail and essential for those looking forward to this one.

So, here are two images from the fine people at The Playlist which show off the toy shop of Uncle George (whose true identity cineastes will know) with Ben Kingsley looking appropriately severe and there’s also a look at Jude Law as Hugo’s Father building a robot which becomes very important to the whole shebang.

It’s a magical story, one which Scorsese has hopefully translated perfectly to the big screen. The 2nd of December is the date to mark in your diaries.

We got our first photos from the set of Tim Burton’s next film, Dark Shadows, last month and they gave us a brief glimpse at Johnny Depp’s return to the gothic world of Burton’s mind as Barnabas Collins, an eighteenth century man-turned-vampire dug up in 1972.

The first official photos from the film have now surfaced over at Empire, and they give us an interesting look not just at Depp’s character, who in fact looks rather different from the set photos, but also show us the rest of the cast looking fantastic in their costumes too.

The film, based on the 1960s TV series of the same name, revolves around Depp’s character, Barnabas:

“In 1752, the Collins family sails from Liverpool, England to North America. The son, Barnabas, grows up to be a wealthy playboy in Collinsport, Maine and is the master of Collinwood Manor. He breaks the heart of a witch, Angelique Bouchard, who turns him into a vampire and buries him alive. In 1972, Barnabas is freed and returns to find his manor in ruin. It is occupied by dysfunctional descendants and other residents, all of whom have secrets.”

The script for Dark Shadows is written by Seth Grahame-Smith, author of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, both of which are being adapted for the big screen. Grahame-Smith has said of the film’s setting in 1972,

“Tim and Johnny took a long time explaining exactly why it had to be 1972. 1969 was too early and 1973 was too late. 1972 is right at the time when the hippie movement and all its peace and love is dying out and being replaced by this  me-me-me generation in the ’70s who are all about showing their wealth and having everything.”

Definitely interesting stuff. Along with Depp, the terrific cast includes Eva Green, Christopher Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Chloë Grace Moretz, Johnny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, a cameo from Alice Cooper, and of course, frequent collaborator of Burton and Depp’s, and Burton’s partner in real life, Helena Bonham Carter.

These fantastic new photos give us a look at the majority of this cast, and show Depp in the first photo looking a little different to how we first saw him in the set photos. His hair is looking particularly excellent in this, and with Depp having a way of bringing such different characters to life, I’m always eager to see what his next performance is going to be like. Dark Shadows is due to come out on 11^th May next year in the States, and we can hopefully look forward to a similar release date here in the UK. We got a terrific first trailer for Texas Killing Fields back in August that showed some great scenes packed with action and thrills from the upcoming crime thriller, helmed by relative newcomer director Ami Canaan Mann, daughter of director Michael Mann.

We’ve now got an interesting first clip to share, courtesy of Yahoo Movies, in which local detective, Sam Worthington, and NY detective, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, add another person to the growing list of people missing in the Texas Killing Fields.

The film is the writing debut of Don Ferrarone, who’s previously worked as a producer on some big-name films, including Bad Boys II, Man on Fire, and The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. And alongside Worthington and Morgan, the film boasts a great cast that also includes Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life), Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass), Jason Clarke (TV’s The Chicago Code), Annabeth Gish (TV’s The West Wing), and Stephen Graham (Snatch).

With only a few weeks to go before its 14th October release here in the UK, we don’t have long at all to wait to see how the final product has turned out, and to give us an idea of whether Ami Mann will be following in her father’s four-time Oscar-nominated footsteps in the years to come. Until then, here’s the new clip, entitled In The Fields, to enjoy.

Dark Shadows will see Johnny Depp joining up with director Tim Burton for the 784th time in their careers, collaborating once again for a project with dark, gothic tones.

Dark Shadows was a cult TV show that ran in the latter half of the 1960′s, containing such genre staples as vampires, zombies, witches, werewolves and ghosts. It is of course massively unsurprising to find Burton and Depp interested in this sort of thing.

Depp will play Barnabas Collins and shooting is underway as the snaps below amply testify. Dark Shadows will be released into the gloomy twilight in May next year, finding itself up against pretty much every superhero on the planet in the process. It will be interesting to see if it can hold its own. Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz and Gulliver McGrath are all on board as well.

Chloë Moretz made a real name for herself last year when Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book series, Kick-Ass, came out on the big screen.

Since then, there’s been a lot of talk about the possibility of a sequel, and in a new interview Moretz has done with Movies.com, courtesy of Comic Book Movie, she talks about how she’d love to return, and hopefully in the next year or two.

She of course made a big impression first time around as Hit-Girl, and will no doubt be doing more of the same if the sequel does go ahead. Millar’s been writing the comic book sequel and has released the first three issues, but whether the film’s sequel would follow the comic book’s sequel remains to be seen.

“Movies.com: Are they going to be able to do Kick-Ass 2 in time for you to be Hit Girl again? 

CM: Actually, yeah, but I think I’m going to be a little bit older. I’d like to do it in the next year or two because I think that’s a really good time age-wise. You can show Hit Girl in a different light which would be a lot of fun.

Movies.com: Would you like to revisit her at different ages?

CM: I think it would be fun to show her, because you know her as this 11-year-old assassin, so I think it would be fun to show her as this twisted young adult, this 16-17-year-old Catwoman-y almost, twisted and dark person.

Movies.com: She could have a driver’s license then.

CM: Ex-ACTLY! Hit Girl could be riding Ducatis all over New York City. Duh.”

Sounds pretty damn awesome to me. Moretz is a brilliant young actress, and she’s proven more than once how talented she is in some very different roles, and getting to see her return to Hit-Girl as an older, slightly different version of the character we’ve already seen would be a lot of fun. Some people might question the necessity for a sequel to the film, but I think this would have a lot of potential to be so good like the original, so why not? The official green-light for the film is yet to be lit, but hopefully Moretz knows something the rest of us outside the loop don’t.

Here’s yet another first look image of the Derek Martini directed movie starring Blake Lively, Chloe Moretz, Alec Baldwin, Juliette Lewis, Eddie Redmayne and Rory Culkin called Hick. As with all the other posts that we’ve put up in the last hour, it comes from the Toronto Film Festival website which was updated with hundreds of lovely new images from movies set to show at this year’s festival.

This film has me intrigued. Not only is it Martin Scorsese’s first foray into the world of 3D but it is primarily a film for children, as well as the fan of the magical era of silent cinema.

I enjoyed Brian Selznick’s book The Invention of Hugo Cabret immensely, quite why the film has followed Disney’s nonsensical title shortening of its John Carter of Mars movie to become, first Hugo Cabret, and finally Hugo, is beyond me but the enchanting tale of the titular orphan living in a Paris train station is a captivating love letter to the magicians of early cinema.

With the help if a young girl and her grandfather, who is inextricably linked to the young world of moving pictures, Hugo struggles to cope with the loss of his father and help a reclusive man step back into the public spotlight.

We’ve kept a close eye on this film since it was announced that Scorsese was taking charge as the promise of the recreation of some of the famous silent films was too good to ignore, and you can see some set videos and images here.

Sir Ben Kingsley appears alongside Chloe Moretz and Asa Butterfield who lead the cast of Jude Law, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helen McCrory, Emily Mortimer, Michael Stuhlbarg and Christopher Lee.

Thanks to an eagle eyed ComingSoon.net, we get to see the first promotional material for the movie directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese.

Chloë Moretz, by far one of my favourite child actresses of all time, has been  in talks to join Tim Burton’s upcoming remake of the 1960s TV soap opera, Dark Shadows.

Moretz’s dramatic rise to fame came, of course, with last year’s Kick-Ass, in which she superbly played Hit Girl / Mindy Macready, daughter of Nicolas Cage’s Big Daddy / Damon Macready. Her role in the remake of the Swedish horror film Let The Right One In (retitled Let Me In for the American film) demonstrated a different side to her than was evident in Kick-Ass. For me, her roles in both truly prove her fame and recognition to be  well deserved.

The film will be a gothic horror, focusing on the life of Barnabas Collins, a 200-year-old vampire, and his run-ins with various monsters, witches, werewolves, and ghosts. Moretz will play the daughter of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer), the reclusive matriarchal figure of the Collins family. Moretz will be joining an already great cast, as is to be expected of any Tim Burton-directed film, with Johnny Depp talking the lead role of Barnabas, Eva Green (Casino Royale) taking the lead female opposite him, and Michelle Pfeiffer (Batman Returns) and Jackie Earl Haley (Watchmen) starring alongside too. It is also expected that Helena Bonham Carter, Burton’s wife, will be attached to the film too, now a reasonably safe prediction for both her and Depp.

The script was originally to be written by John August (Corpse Bride, upcoming Frankenweenie), who has collaborated with Burton on many films now, but it is instead going to be written now by Seth Grahame-Smith, writer of the novels Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, both of which are being turned into films at the moment.

Given Moretz’s extremely impressive performance in Let Me In, a film in which she plays a young vampire child, I think there is every reason to expect another excellent role from her in Burton’s latest project. A supporting role in a Burton film can only help her already blossoming career, so I really hope that she gets it. Before then, she will be seen Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret, which is due out at the end of November this year. For a fourteen-year-old girl to be able to say she’s starred in both a Martin Scorsese and a Tim Burton movie really is something.

Update: And now it’s just been confirmed! The Wrap have it that it’s no longer just talks, Moretz has officially joined Dark Shadow’s cast, which is brilliant. I truly can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.

Only a couple of days after a picture showing Johnny Depp appearing in Martin Scorsese’s 3D movie The Invention of Hugo Cabret found its way online Le Parisien have posted a set video with a look at Sir Ben Kingsley in his role as Georges Melies.

While we’ve seen Sir Ben in costume before, as young and old Meilies, this the first time we’ve had a look at the set design and it’s a glimpse and nothing more but in the absence of anything more substantial this will have to keep fans of Scorsese and the book sated for now.

Kingsley appears alongside Chloe Moretz and Asa Butterfield who lead the cast of Jude Law, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helen McCrory, Emily Mortimer, Michael Stuhlbarg and Christopher Lee.

A new image from Martin Scorsese’s forthcoming 3D adapation of Brian Selznick’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret has hit the internet giving us a first look at Johnny Depp in his role at M. Rouleau.

ComingSoon and their enigmatic source ‘Steven’ scanned this picture in and as Depp is credited as a Producer on the film there was always a chance he’d appear on screen.

The rest of the cast is impressive with winner of last night’s Empire Award for Best Newcomer Chloe Moretz and Asa Butterfield leading the cast of Sir Ben Kingsley, Jude Law, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helen McCrory, Emily Mortimer, Michael Stuhlbarg and Christopher Lee, some of whom we’ve already seen in costume on set.

Lawrence triumphed over fellow actresses Chloe Moretz (Let Me In), Lyndsy Fonseca (Kick-Ass), Saoirse Ronan (Atonement), Emma Roberts (Scream 4), Kaya Scodelario (Moon) and Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), who were all reported to be under consideration.

The Hunger Games, an adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ young-adult science fiction novel, centers on a young girl (Lawrence) who joins a survival contest in order to save her community in a dystopian future.

Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) is attached to direct the film, which is scheduled to hit cinema screens on March 23, 2012.

Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four), Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right) and Hunter Parish (Weeds) are all said to be under consideration for the role of Peeta Mellark.

Lawrence will next be seen in X-Men: First Class and The Beaver, both scheduled to open in the UK over the lucrative Summer period.
