With less than four months to go until its release, it’s a testament to the promotion of Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi actioner that we’ve still not got a clear hold on what the film’s about. Though we’ve been teased by quite a bit in recent months, we’re still pretty much in the dark, which is a great place to be in my books.

The first trailer that landed just before Christmas was brilliant, without giving anything away, and I’m hoping that things stay that way up until its release this summer.

In keeping with the lack of reveal and increase of intrigue, a new image has surfaced of two of the leads in their now-familiar space suits, and judging from the direction of their gaze (i.e. up), it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to imagine that they might be looking at the giant head that we’ve been seeing over the past few months.

With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. The new image shows us Logan Marshall-Green and Noomi Rapace futuristically kitted out, and we can also look forward to a great cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall, and Patrick Wilson.

After getting three great new images from the film just yesterday, we’ve now got another new image from the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman to share with you tonight. The film is the darker of the two Snow White films due to come out this year, and everything we’ve seen so far has been beyond promising.

Led by Kristen Stewart in the lead as Snow White, the film also stars Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Lily Cole, and Bob Hoskins.

Rupert Sanders is making what looks to be a very impressive directorial debut, with a script co-written by newcomer Evan Daugherty and Oscar-nominated Hossein Amini, who wrote the screenplay for last year’s Drive.

This new image, courtesy of the film’s Facebook page, gives us a close-up of Theron looking fearfully at her own reflection before the mirror, no doubt with concern for her fading looks, and it comes with the following quotation:

“It once pained me to know I am the cause of such despair. – The Queen”

Theron’s performance looks remarkable judging by that immense first trailer that was put out towards the end of last year, and I can’t wait to see how things play out when she and Stewart are pitted against each other in the film, with Hemsworth fast on the heels of Stewart’s Joan of Arc-esque heroine.

Snow White and the Huntsman will be with us on 1^st June this year, both in the UK and the US, and is set to light a fire at the box office to kick-off the summer blockbusters in style. I can’t wait. If ever you were a little sceptical that this would be good, or that Kristen Stewart could pull off a Joan of Arc-like Snow White heroine, all you have to do is watch the first trailer we got at the end of last year to get a feel for how immense this should be.

The film marks the directorial debut of Rupert Sanders, and it looks like a fantastic first feature from him. The script has been co-written by Evan Daugherty, who also makes his debut on this, and Hossein Amini, who wrote the screenplay for Drive, by far one of my favourite films of 2011.

Along with Stewart, Theron, and Claflin, the film also stars Chris Hemsworth in one of the leading roles as The Huntsman, and a fantastic supporting cast that includes Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan (who you may recognize from being in everything at the moment), Lily Cole, and Bob Hoskins.

You might recognise the images of Stewart and Theron from a moment in the trailer and an earlier magazine scan, respectively, but I think this is the first time we’re getting them officially as images and at hi-res. And they look awesome. I’m a big fan of both Stewart and Theron, and I can’t wait to see them opposite each other in this. And Claflin will no doubt set many hearts a-swooning as the film’s Prince Charming, shown here with a suitably deep-in-thought expression cast on his face before the firelight.

Snow White and the Huntsman will be with us here in the UK on 1^st June, which means we’ve got less than five months before we get to watch this awesome film unfold before us on the big screen. In this age of super-saturation with film marketing, Prometheus has admirably bucked the trend. Of all of the teaser trailers launched lately, it has kept its cards closest to its chest, saved more surprises for us the humble viewers and succeeded in generating much more interest as a helpful by-product.

Much of the response to what we have seen of Prometheus so far (and we have helpfully gathered it all together for you here) has been more questions – what is that statue? Why is that person screaming? Who is the vaguely humanoid creature jumping down? How does this fit into the rest of the Alien Universe? It is perhaps a sign of the times that some are annoyed or disgruntled by the teasing drip-feed we are getting, when we should instead be applauding the slow-burn approach being taken by Ridley Scott and his team.

All we have that is new for now (though in due course we are sure to get a more fleshed out trailer) is a still, showing the human head statue that we have seen before, but better lit and more clearly on show. Not much admittedly, but impressive looking nonetheless and with great surrounding detail of what is likely to be the interior of the doughnut ship from Alien and the Prometheus teaser trailer.

Following the potentially game-changing Up in the Air, director Jason Reitman (admirably) returns to a smaller, indie-flavoured milieu, re-teaming with his Juno scribe Diablo Cody to bring another highly memorable female character to life, and in the process, managing to create his strongest work to date.

We first catch thirty-something divorcee Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron) in a pretty disheveled state. Moping around her unkempt apartment the morning after yet another boozing night, she’s furiously quaffing down a two litre bottle of Diet Coke and nonchalantly peeling off her now firmly-affixed chicken fillets. Ghost author of a series of young adult fiction novels (the popularity of which is increasingly on the wane) she tends to live her life like the superficial adolescent characters she writes about. Making a somewhat arbitrary decision to head back to the small Midwest town where she grew up to win back high school sweetheart Buddy (Patrick Wilson), she’s under the horrendously mistaken assumption that he’s still deeply in love with her, when in reality, he’s happily married with a young child.

Back in town and steadily concocting her nefarious scheme, she bumps into another figure from her school days, Matt (Patton Oswald). Semi-debilitated after a violent teenage incident and stuck eking out a modest living as a bookkeeper in the very existence Mavis despises, he unwittingly becomes a sounding board for the writer, despite her apparent indignation towards him and the life he leads.

It’s early days yet in this year’s cinematic calendar, but already here’s a film which may find itself sitting comfortably within the 2012 top ten lists for many. Young Adult is a fantastic character-driven look at adulthood in arrested development and felled by misjudged nostalgia, all wrapping up in a subtly dark comedic outlook, and courageously offering up a lead protagonist who is as pretty much as far from likable as can possibly be.

It also represents the opportunity for the great Charlize Theron to showcase her considerable acting talents once more. She’s able to effortlessly disappear into the role, and similar to her turn as real-life serial killer Eileen Wornos in Monster, it relies on her ditching any vanity as a performer and revealing a delusional, often extremely unpleasant persona. Make no mistake, Mavis is as thoughtless and insensitive as they come, but just as she was able to humanise Wornos, Theron does an excellent job here of keeping the audience engaged despite her character’s egregious flaws.

Some of the credit here must be attributed to Cody’s thoughtful and restrained script. There’s a noticeable maturity to her work, and she doesn’t go for the obvious (albeit witty) one-liners and put-downs which characterised Juno. Where her teen creation often felt more like a cipher to project her own skewed perspective and musings of the world, Mavis is a much more believable flesh and blood creation.

The quality writing also extends beyond the central character and allows Oswalt (historically associated with broader material) the opportunity to really shine and give his female co-star serious competition in the acting stakes. Matt is a sad and somewhat tragic figure, yet Oswalt manages to gain the audience’s sympathy without ever pandering to them, and somehow his character is able to bring out the best in Mavis, offering the emotional reliance she sorely needs. It’s a shame his face won’t be seen amongst the Best Supporting actors, come Oscar night. He deserves to be there.

More so than any of his previous films, Reitman proves to be very much a disciple of the Alexander Payne school of filmmaking here (a point which is further established by Payne regular Rolf Kent once again lending his skills to the filmmaker) and he’s interested in capturing revealing little character moments throughout, adding texture and a richness to the narrative. This delicate attention to detail is beautifully illustrated during the opening credits where Mavis keeps rewinding the cassette player in her car to the beginning of her favourite track (on an old mixtape from the Buddy era) before the song has had the chance to play out to the end. Everything you need to know about Mavis is served up right there.

Populated with a fine selection of 90’s indie rock from both sides of the Atlantic which manages to cast a halcyon glow over that decade (a small wonder in itself), Young Adult is a highly-accomplished piece of work from a creative trio who’s bold and risky creative decisions have paid off handsomely.

The official Facebook channel for Universal Studios’ new movie,  Snow White and the Huntsman has released an awesome new image of the dwarves with Chris Hemsworth. Love the way that they’ve all be shrunk down to their dwarf size but also great to see the likes of Ian McShane and Bob Hoskins leading the gang from the front. If you look to the back, you can see Nick Frost looking like he’s tired from marching through the forest!

This image comes a few days after the super close-up image released of Kristen Stewart who plays Snow White and another of Charlize Theron who plays the witch, in the movie.

Of the two upcoming Snow White films, Snow White and the Huntsman certainly seems to have the epic factor going for it, which is excellent news in my books. The first trailer for the film landed back in November, and it was nothing short of immense.

This iteration of the classic fairytale looks to be a much darker version than the family film, Mirror Mirror, which should also be great, but is by its nature largely aimed at different audiences. And I just happen to fall into Snow White and the Huntsman’s audience that little bit more.

Everything that we’ve seen for the film so far (all of which you can catch up on right here) has been pitch perfect, and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out this summer. Snow White and the Huntsman will be with us on 1st June, which gives us four and a half months to wait in anticipation for its awesomeness. It’s going to be such a good kick-start to the summer. 2008’s Hancock is by far one of my favourite superhero films of all time, making this news one of the best things I’ve heard in some time. Rumours of a sequel have been circling pretty much since the film was released, especially when you take into account a) the immense potential it has for a sequel, like most superhero films, and b) the fact it took in $620m. from a $150m. budget. (The second part is naturally less a consideration for us than it is for the studios.)

Director Peter Berg has been speaking to ComicBookMovie, and gave a brief update on the sequel, which is definitely good news for us fans of the first film.

“We’ve been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, [producers] Michael Mann and Akiva Goldman and myself. We’re all interested, but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for sequel – and Will Smith actually had the idea – so I think it will happen, it’s just a question of timing.”

Ridiculously brilliant news. I’m completely fine with being patient if I know that something should be coming. And if it’s Will Smith with the idea, and everyone else is on board, let’s hope that can only mean good things.

When news of the sequel first started circling, Charlize Theron said that she’d gladly reprise her role, which is excellent news. And I’d imagine that Jason Bateman would be happy to return as well; he and Theron had such great chemistry on screen. The real question mark is of course the villain – who it will be in the world of the film, and who it will be playing them – and there’s a good chance that that’s the idea Smith has had for the sequel.

As you can imagine, Smith is generally a very busy man, and having wrapped Men in Black 3, his next film, After Earth, will see him working with M. Night Shyamalan, and the scale of that project means it will no doubt take some time to get done. Beyond that, there’s been talk of a Bad Boys 3 as well as an Independence 2 (and 3), so if those sequels do happen after After Earth, then he may not have time for Hancock in the next few years. But fear not, because it’s already been quite a few years since the film came out and clearly they’re all still talking about it and Smith’s just come up with the idea for the sequel. So we can all be patient, because you just know this is going to be awesome. And I’m really hoping that they can get John Powell to return to score the film, because the music from the first is genuinely incredible. More news as we get it.

While the recent look at the Space Jockey mask gave further hints at the links between Alien and Prometheus there’s something a little more tangible on offer today with this new image from Ridley Soctt’s film from the L.A. Times (via Coming Soon).

Lining up behind Noomi Rapace are a couple of space jockey suits and there’s a far bet that Nooms has just caught a glimpse of what goes inside one of them. Man, this is a tease-a-thon isn’t it? Only a few months to go until we get the chance to see Scott’s film, easily one of the most anticipated of the year.

Ever since the release of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome in 1985 cult film fans the world over have been waiting for George Miller to follow through on his promise to continue the saga.

25 years on and just as filming was about to start Australia had other ideas and the shoot got rained off as their once arid location picked for its distinct ‘apocalyptic hell-hole’ look suddenly sprouted some startlingly un-apocalyptic flowers on a brand new carpet of grass. A year on and filming of Mad Max Fury Road has moved to Africa where the weather gods are a little more kind to the dystopian film maker.

In order to do this many of the film’s principal props have had to be shipped over from their original location. Happily this includes many of the ridiculous custom-made cars that will pepper the wasteland, cars presumably fuelled exclusively by testosterone, baby’s tears and the concept of hate:

Other photos were snapped on the back of loaders taking the cars to storage in South Africa that depict several copies of Max’s famed ‘Interceptor’, his coupe of choice from the original movies. My guess is that they won’t meet a pleasant end:

Whilst they are surely a mechanic’s dream and/or nightmare, it’s all very encouraging for the future of the franchise. After struggling for so long to take the new film into production it looks like things are definitely being given the go ahead. If all goes to plan the cars here could be hitting a screen near you sometime in the near future along with new Max Tom Hardy and his prospective co-stars Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult. I for one can’t wait.

There are pictures doing the rounds today which appear to offer further proof that Ridley Scott’s forthcoming Prometheus shares more than a little DNA with his Alien film.

Cinemart claim these pictures come from a trustworthy source deep in the design department of the production and show a mask resembling that of the sad old Space Jockey from Scott’s 1979 film.

The source told the site that this mask was for ‘the alien’ from the film, and that it would feature in the film with ‘very little CGI’ enhancement. For a bit of context the filmmaker spoke to MTV  about the place of the Space Jockey in his new film,

I have to design — or redesign — earlier versions of what these elements are that led to the thing you finally see in “Alien,” which is the thing that catapults out of the egg, the face-hugger… I don’t want to repeat it. The alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out… maybe we’ll come up with something completely different.

Scott then expanded on the central role of the Space Jockey,

What we’re going to try to do is squeeze in two prequels. . . if you explain who he was and where did he come from. . . then you may want to find out where they came from, you might want to go to him and go to the place where his people come from.

And it’s about time…

Teased beyond the point of parody we now have the chance to see what Ridley Scott and screenwriter Damon Lindelof have been working on for what seems like an age. The highly anticipated film has gone from being a full on Space Jockey-centred prequel to Alien to a far grander sci-fi tale, telling us the story of a discovery of the origin of life in the universe.

The trailer hints at the links, not least the slowly revealing font, Gigeresque corridor and it looks like we’ll see what happened to the ship where it all started in Alien. Oh, and the flash at 00:26 is very interesting…

Ridley Scott has a very interesting cast in the form of Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron but it is the return of the director to the sci-fi genre that is the real draw here.

Tis the season to pump out new trailers for some of the biggest films of 2012 clearly and the curious question of how to keep the flames of anticipation for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus stoked while competing trailers pop up around it has given rise to a daily tease for the unveiling of the first look of Scott’s return to the world of Space Jockeys and acid blooded xenomorphs.

This new look is in keeping with teases one and two in that the director talks briefly about the project while new footage flickers on-screen for seconds at a time. Thank goodness the trailer hits tomorrow…

There’s also a new pic from the all-singing Empire which is below, featuring Michael Fassbender who once described his character as a ’10-pound rent boy’, though it has long been rumoured that he is an android cut from the same circuit boards as Ash and Bishop.

If you’re not already adrift in the seemingly endless torrent of trailers we’ve seen today there’s a little more for you.

Earlier this evening we posted a short teaser for the imminent trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, a film which commands huge expectation and which has, so far, been relatively shrouded in secrecy. Now there’s a second teaser which has a little more footage from the film.

I’m happily posting this here because I know there are people out there who will want to see anything from Prometheus as soon as possible, so while the concept of a trailer for a trailer boggles my mind there’s some brief glimpses to pour over until the trailer arrives on Thursday (or so we’re led to believe).

Before all the talk of Ridley Scott returning to the world of Blade Runner for a sequelprequelrebootremakewhoknows a far greater prospect was already being worked on in deepest, darkest Pinewood as Scott was formulating his return to the cinematic landscape of a film which made his name: his Alienverse movie Prometheus.

Reports from Comic-Con of the screening of footage from the film were almost universally positive and while we’ve  heard rumblings that a trailer is imminent we only have a vague plot synopsis and  a handful of images this far. In some ways I’d prefer it if we could all enter the cinemas in June next year knowing nothing about it at all – and that’s clearly an option open to everyone and we each make our choice, but I have the feeling that this one will be better enjoyed that way. Oh well – having said all that here’s what looks like being the first poster for the film!

Alien Prequel News were sent this by someone who is either a well-placed fan or a talented artist looking to see how far his creation flies around the world, and they are claiming the exclusive look at the first poster. They have been very solid in the past and there’s nothing to say it isn’t the official poster and the tagline (which is ‘The search for our beginning could lead to our end’) smacks of being the perfect marketing tease for the film given the synopsis we’ve seen. I’m hoping this may force Fox to bring forward to release of the poster/trailer combo which is rumoured to be just around the corner.

With the US release just around the corner for Jason Reitman’s next directorial venture, Young Adult, working once more with his Juno scribe Diablo Cody, we’ve seen some terrific things from the film in the past few weeks and months.

We got our first official look at the film’s lead, Charlize Theron, back in August, and it was excellent, and most recently the first UK trailer for the film at the start of the month, and you can catch up with everything else in between right here.

Yahoo Movies have now put out a great new clip, entitled ‘I Wrote The Book’, in which Theron realises that the books she’s written aren’t selling as well as they used to, and have landed in the clearance section.

“A writer (Theron) of teen literature returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). However, when returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.”

Young Adult has just had its limited release this past weekend in the States, before going wide this coming Friday, but we’ve got a little while longer to wait until we see it here in the UK, with its release scheduled for 10th February in the new year. It definitely looks like it’s going to be worth the wait though, and until then, here’s the great new clip to tie you over. Reitman’s career has been pitch-perfect to date, and he looks to be bringing us a terrific film once more.

So we’re all sitting here waiting for a new trailer for The Dark Knight rises which as yet has failed to materialise but fear  not as we have this new international trailer for Snow White and the Huntmans from Universal Pictures via their Mexico office. It’s pretty much the same one that we saw recently with a little more footage added but it have to warn you, you’re going to need to brush up on your Spanish if you want to know what they’re saying!

But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth​, Thor) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power. The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth​​, the producer of Alice in Wonderland​​, producer Sam Mercer​​ (The Sixth Sense​​) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.
