You need to pity Martin Lawrence, you really do. Imagine knowing after the second, no – the first film that the franchise you’ve signed up to is a right stinker, and you have to make a third to keep the money men happy. But hey, let’s change the title of the third to fool those who were less than enamoured with the second by dropping any reference to it being ‘Number 3’. Still, third time lucky, as they say?

Well, sadly, no. Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son (as there are two ‘nicely covered’ ladies in it this time) is still moronic, chauvinistic, clichéd, and just not funny – and staggeringly less so than the first two. Lawrence still plays FBI agent Malcolm Turner who continues to run around in a fat suit impersonating a morbidly obese granny, in order to catch criminals. Questions spring to mind: Have the criminal masterminds not cottoned onto the fact that Big Momma is Turner’s alter ego by now, especially when, as in this story, there’s a leak in the Federal building? Do they not wonder how this hefty dame manages to pole-vault over furniture at record speed?

We are saved from one thing, though; Lawrence as Big Momma has stopped salivating over beautiful young women in their panties, but has past on the defective gene to his equally horny (and somewhat corny) son called Trent, played by super fly Brandon T. Jackson of Percy Jackson fame. There is an amusing repertoire going on between them, perhaps, but unless you’re a ‘street’ teen down with the urban vibe, you’ll need subtitles to work out what the devil’s being said first. Maybe it’s the not ‘dope’ Brit in me, and as the film-makers claim, they’re after the teen market this time.

Turner and Trent  – aka Big Momma and great niece Charmaine – find themselves hiding out in a performing arts school for girls, after witnessing a snitch’s murder carried out by some Russian mobsters. With Big Momma as the girls’ ‘House Momma’, the boys’ key to freedom is finding a USB drive in a musical box in the school’s library that holds the evidence to put the baddies away for life. Trouble is, the performing brats have nicked the box, and unless Big Momma can crack petulant and emaciated prima ballerina Jasmine, the girls’ ringleader, played by Portia Doubleday, it’s going to stay hidden.

It’s a beautiful irony; Trent desperately wants to convince all and sundry that he’s got talent, musically – as does Jackson with comedy – and (leeches after) falls for stunning Haley, played by Jessica Lucas, who quite obviously does. Lawrence and Jackson’s talent merely seems to be the tired and clown-like sort of falling down, or falling over and crushing humans and objects, followed by idiotic gurning. Even Lawrence in this film seems a tad bored and deflated in his fatness by it all, and even the Twister moment that should produce some laughs falls flat on the game mat.

The film has a bunch of B-listers involved, including The Hangover’s quirky Ken Jeong as a jobsworth mailman who is easily forgotten in this; Faizon Love as Big Momma’s equally roly-poly admirer, school caretaker Kurtis Kool; and Tony Curran as Russian mob boss Chirkoff (Get it? ‘Chirk-off’?). The funniest character is Michelle Ang as acting diva Mia who goes into meltdown regularly, and often steals the moment.

As far as men dressing as women and entertaining – pantos aside, Big Momma makes Mrs. Doubtfire look like classic comedy gold. With a film that should be generating at least the odd laugh or three, the theatre was eerily quiet. Too much Momma to handle, or like an annoying relative at a party peddling out the same old jokes, just plain ‘brutal’ who seriously needs to ‘bounce’?

Living proof that fat-suits aren’t always funny, the first two Big Momma’s House movies did their very best to scream this fact from every roof-top within the film-maker’s reach. It appears, however, that despite such valiant attempts, the general cinema-going public have forked over enough money to justify a third outing for Martin Lawrences own personal standing pillory.

Twentieth Century Fox have sent us the new poster and Quad for Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, which see’s Lawrence go undercover for a third time in order to solve a murder at a performing arts school – this time bringing his son (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif’s Brandon T. Jackson) along for good measure.

The one-sheet and quad differ in only one respect: the positioning of ‘Big Momma’s’ gun. Neither prove particularly remarkable though, opting for the kiss-of-death white background most recently seen on posters for Africa United.

Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son is released on February 18.

We’ve already had a trailer and some stills for Big Momma’s House 3 but why not put up a couple of new international posters from the movie. These two come from Germany (via IMPA) and show us a little more of what we might expect from the third installment!

Heaven only knows who signs off on these films. I’m not aware of many people who were wildly enthused about the first sequel, let alone a further film featuring two guys dressing up as breathtakingly unconvincing  women.

Anyway, like it or not we now have a trailer for Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son, which finds Martin Lawrence having to go undercover with his step-son (Tropic Thunder’s Brandon T Jackson) at an all girls school. Cue lots of “nutcracker” jokes, blows to the crotch and a big fat guy flirting with Lawrence during a game of Twister.

“Aw, Hell No!” manages to be a quote from the film, a suitable tag line for any poster and in all likelihood, my full-length review come next February’s release date.

We have the trailer below if you have a masochistic streak. We’ll leave it to you as to whether you take a shower and scrub your retinas afterwards.

Twentieth Century Fox have given us this special exclusive look at one of the new featurettes which will appear on the Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief Dvd & Blu ray when it’s released in the UK 5th July. The featurette is called Inside Camp Half Blood and features interviews with director, Chris Columbus and stars of the movie, Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson who talk about how they had to learn to sword fight against one another.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is based on the book by Rick Riordan and also stars Alexandra Daddario, Jake Abel, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd, Pierce Brosnan, Steve Coogan and Rosario Dawson.

Last week HeyUGuys were lucky enough to get invited along to the press conference for Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. I was there armed with my video camera and you can watch the entire press conference in full here. Last week, almost all of the cast of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief descended on London to promote their new movie. Chris Columbus, the man who brought us Gremlins, Home Alone, Mrs Doubtfire, the first two Harry Potter movies and some film called The Goonies was with them and proved himself to be the legend that we all knew he was.

Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, Pierce Brosnan, Kevin McKidd and Steve Coogan were all in attendance and all spent 40 minutes talking about the new movie and how they loved making it. Well you lucky Percy Jackson fans, we have a special treat for you as we filmed the entire event in lovely HD for you and you can watch the whole thing below.
Uma Thurman unfortunately wast able to be there but there wasn’t any more room round the table which must be why she wasn’t there!

After the press conference, I got to interview all the above names except for former James Bond, Pierce Brosnan and over the next three days, we’ll bring you audio interviews from each of them so keep coming back to HeyUGuys for your Percy Jackson cast fix.

With news breaking that Logan Lerman may be the new Spider-Man, it may detract us from remembering the movie that he’s currently travelling the globe to promote, that of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. I was lucky enough to meet Logan, his director Chris Columbus and his fellow cast members, Alexandra Daddario Brandon, T. Jackson, Steve Coogan and Kevin McKidd earlier in the week at the press conference for the movie. All the footage and audio for those will be up next week but in the meantime, 20th Century Fox have released these super high resolution images that all look fantastic.

Synopsis: Trouble-prone Percy Jackson is having problems in high school – but that’s the least of his challenges. It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus seem to have walked out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology texts and into his life. Percy has learned that his real father is Poseidon, god of the sea, which means Percy is a demigod – half human, half god. At the same time, the powerful gods on Olympus are feuding, which could launch a war enveloping our entire planet.
