Sawyer is a bit of a lonely boy. He dotes on his cousin Kyle who is about to be shipped out with the US armed forces and he is staring at the prospect of summer school on account of his poor grades. One day he stumbles upon a dolphin stranded on the beach, caught up in a crab cage. She is taken to the nearby marine life hospital where Harry Connick Jr’s kindly Dr Clay Haskett tries to nurse her back to health, but her tail has to be amputated. Sawyer becomes friends with Winter (her new name) and is devastated to learn that she will be unable to survive long without her tail.

When Kyle comes back from serving with a serious injury, Sawyer’s visit to a Veteran’s Hospital and a chance meeting with a prosthetic’s Doctor gives him a bright idea.

On its theatrical release, Dolphin Tale came and went pretty quickly and could easily be dismissed as day time TV movie of the week fodder, especially given its “inspired by true events” tag. But there is a lot to enjoy and admire here, even if you can see its plot developments coming a mile off. It goes without saying that not every film needs to be heart-breaking, overwrought and down-beat; there is room for a heart-warming, triumph over adversity, everything works out swimmingly (sorry), tale and all but the most cold-hearted should find something to enjoy and smile at here.

The acting is pretty good across the board, with Nathan Gamble (Jim Gordon’s son in The Dark Knight) making a very effective lonely boy opposite Cozi Zuehlsdorff’s much more spunky Hazel (Dr Clay’s daughter). He gradually comes out of his shell in a convincing and affecting manner, even if it all plays out quite obviously. Alongside the aforementioned Connick Jr, we get Ashley Judd as Sawyer’s mother, Morgan Freeman as the prosthetic’s expert and Kris Kristofferson as Hazel’s grandfather. The script makes no great demands of any of them, but to their credit they approach their roles with appealing authenticity and energy, with Freeman in particular excelling as a light-hearted, unconventional Doctor.

The pacing is just fine, coming in at a sprightly 90 minutes, with much-welcomed real-life footage of Winter playing over the end credits. Yes, everything is wrapped up with a bow at the end, but it keeps moving along, shifts through the narrative and tonal gears, introduces problems to be overcome and heart-warming solutions and leaves you happy and satisfied. Which can only be a good thing.

Dolphin Tale is released in the UK 14th October and we’ve been given a sneak peek of the film which is the latest from Charles Martin Smith​ and stars Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Harry Connick, Jr., Kris Kristofferson​, Nathan Gamble and Cozi Zuehlsdorff.

The film tells the story of a Dolphin who loses his tail only to have a prosthetic one fitted by some very nice people indeed. It’s a true story and no doubt one to warm hearts and if you want a look at a scene introducing two of the very nice people then look no further as Harry Connick Jr. and Ashley Judd get acquainted.

Flypaper is Rob Minkoff’s bank robber comedy with Patrick Dempsey, Tim Blake Nelson and ashley Judd.

Patrick Dempsey is not an angel, though thisnew International poster surrounds him with an angelic glow and showers him with money while two seedy types look at something in the distance.

Seriously they aren’t even trying with this one are they? Dempsey even looks unsure about it – what chance have the Dutch general public got? Although I did just learn that the worringly scientific word BIOSCOOP means cinema.

My advice? Watch the trailer instead.

I can absolutely guarantee you that I will cry in the this movie. I am such a sucker for animal heroes in movies and even the trailer for this one makes me want to shed a tear! Yes, I am a wimp and yes, I know it!

IFC Films has acquired the North American distribution rights to Foresight Unlimited’s robbery comedy Flypaper.

Directed by Rob Minkoff (The Lion King), Flypaper stars Patrick Dempsey (Enchanted), Ashley Judd (Crossing Over), Jeffrey Tambor (Win Win), Tim Blake Nelson (Leaves of Grass) and Pruitt Taylor Vince (Natural Born Killers).

Flypaper premiered earlier this year at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival to moderately positive reviews.

THR is reporting that Ashley Judd (Tooth Fairy), Harry Connick Jr. (PS. I Love You) and Morgan Freeman (Invictus) are in talks to star in A Dolphin’s Tale. Based at Warner Bros., this inspirational animal tale is set to be directed by Charles Martin Smith (Air Bud).

Loosely based on true events, which saw a dolphin rescued and taken in by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, A Dolphin’s Tale centres on a boy who befriends a wounded dolphin, it having sustained injuries to its tail courtesy of a crab trap. The boy motivates those around him to create a prosthetic appendage to replace the dragon’s - I mean dolphin’s – tail, the animal becoming an inspiration for people with special needs around the globe.

With Judd set to play the boy’s mother, Connick Jr. the owner of the marine hospital and Freeman the prosthetics doctor, hopefully A Dolphin’s Tale wont feel too much like deja vu.

It looks like it’s trailer day here at HeyUGuys again. Does anyone else think it’s funny that this ex-wrestler has sunk so low that he now has movie posters made of him with fairy wings on?! Whatever pays the bills I guess!
