Well, that advert (which will debut in the US during the Superbowl) has now been placed on YouTube.

It’s not quite as good as I was hoping for but seeing Matthew Broderick (the star of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) mocking various bits of the film and taking it in a new direction is pretty amusing nonetheless.

I’ve placed it below for your viewing pleasure. There’s numerous visual references to the 1986 movie so keep your eyes peeled.

It would appear that Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown in Back to the Future) has used his most famous role for some sort of internet viral advertising campaign. The problem is, we’re not sure what for!

SlashFilm put up this video which shows a couple walking down the street in Argentina when they’re interrupted as a DeLorean comes out of it’s time vortex and crashes into Garbarino, an electronics superstore (which /Film think could be the source of the ad). It’s very clever but very odd marketing but nonetheless, now that I’ve seen it, it makes me want to see more Back to the Future in 2011! Is that bad?! I also love the fact that Christopher Lloyd doesn’t look a day older than when he shot the movies back in 1985 – 1990. He’s obviously been to a rejuvenation clinic and got an all-natural overhaul!

Check out the video below. You’ll like it and I’m kinda hoping we see some more!

I told you in the Nike commercial post that I put up a couple of weeks ago that we were going to start seeing loads of amazing World Cup adverts / commercials coming and here is another one that blew me away.

Incase you don’t already know (how could you not!?), The World Cup begins in South Africa this coming Friday 11th, June and 32 of the best footballing nations in the world will descend on the country for the first time the World Cup has been hosted in Africa. According to Reuters, the last World Cup hosted by Germany in 2006, had an audience total of 26.3 billion with the show broadcasting in a total of 214 countries and territories. They go onto say they think the totals for this world cup will be a similar number.

With the second biggest TV audience after the Summer Olympics, it’s no wonder that marketing budgets soar for one of the greatest prizes in sport. The latest advert that I’ve come across has been made by M&C Saachi - Australia and features the Australian National Football Team at a ‘Secret Training Camp’ for Optus. The difference in this camp is that they’re playing against animals native to South Africa (except for a few little intruders at the end!).

The commercial was helmed by French director, Thierry Poiraud produced by Paranoid US / The Feds, Australia. It really is a great an captivating advert from the clever minds at M&C Saachi.

Here’s the info from the ParanoidUS accompanying the commercial including information on how it was shot:

‘Secret Training Camp’, directed by Paranoid US‘s Thierry Poiraud, brings some serious wildlife to the playing field. The spot, via M&C Saatchi, is a dramatic concept featuring the Australian national soccer team and African animals. Everyone on the shoot would agree, the production was a feature film. Period. Animals were shot in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, on location . From there the crew went to Australia to shoot the athletes in a studio, and finished with post at BUF in Paris, France. Post-production was a two month full-scale effort. With animals, a night time setting, a child actor and soccer celebrities, it was no easy feat to get the final result.

The World Cup stars 11th June and you’ll see in the post after this one that the big movie companies are getting on board.

Nike have hired director Alejandro González Iñárritu who has brought us movies like Babel to direct their amazing 2010 World Cup advert and he’s done a fantastic job. Not only does it feature some of the biggest footballing stars, we also get to see Homer Simpson meet Ronaldo and Roger Federra get destroyed at table tennis by Wayne Rooney and Kobe Bryant doing a dance inspired by Ronaldinho! At the time of writing, it’s had over 5 million views on YouTube and it’s only been out for 3 days.

So, watch this video and send it to everyone you know! Oh, and…..

COME ON ENGLAND!

I am normally against artists being involved in the world of advertising but I have always appreciated the fact that Lynch is relatively open about his need to make films without interference and the money earned from advertisement work helps with this.

As part of a large scale new advertising campaign, Dior approached David Lynch and asked him to direct a short film. The only restrictions were that he had to include the Dior “handbag, The Pearl Tower and some old Shanghai” (FT.com).

I really liked the short, which is unmistakeably Lynch, and Marion Cotillard is wonderful in it. Hopefully the two will work together again as they seem to be a good match. Lynch even said of her, “She has got that modern quality and old quality that I think the great ones have always…” (FT.com).

The noirish short film is entitled Lady Blue Shanghai and you can watch it in its entirety below. Enjoy…

This is easily the best thing you’ll see today – and its a real treat for those of us who are looking forward to Pixar’s Toy Story 3 as ‘someone’ has uploaded an old VHS copy of an advert for one of the new toys, Lots-O’-Huggin’ Bear.

This is truly pitch perfect marketing. Everything about this advert is reminiscent of kid’s advert from the 80s (the only thing it’s missing is the Mattel logo at the end), and it helps convey a backstory and a context for this new character while at the same time being a great example of the advertising of that time.

Viral marketing has finally been pushed to the fore as was witnessed with the alternate reality Watchmen news reports, and I remember fondly the obscure ‘leaked’ security tapes for Joss Whedon’s Serenity being an early, and effective example. As this advert has shown, viral marketing has been taken to a new level, with greater sophistication and with a result as good as this you’ll be almost convinced that Lots-O’-Huggin’-Bear was a real toy from your past.

While marketing companies are getting very good at what they do there’s something about this video that shows Pixar know exactly how to nail their parodies – this is so close to the myriad other, genuine 80s advert online that you’d swear this was real.

Dave has already seen the film and talked to the people at Pixar and there is a tangible air of fun and creativity in the place, this is evident from the films themselves but also the shorts, the marketing and now these viral videos.

I’d love to see Pixar do a whole host of these adverts for their other toys. Click below and enjoy.

In the early nineties the prequel film, Fire Walk With Me (retitled Twin Peaks: The Last Seven Days of Laura Palmer), was a big box office success, Dale Cooper’s favourite dish, Cherry Pie, became really popular and mock funerals were even held for Laura Palmer.

Capitalising on the success of the show in Japan at the time, Japanese coffee brand Georgia Coffee assembled some of the cast and shot a series of adverts that focused on the investigation into the disappearance of a woman in Twin Peaks. I’ve embedded three of the adverts below. Enjoy!

They recently created an advert for a company called Nisshin Seifun Group to celebrate the company’s 110th anniversary.

The advert was storyboarded by Goro Miyazaki, son of Hayao Miyazaki, the character was drawn by producer Toshio Suzuki and the project overseen by Katsuya Kondo. It focuses on a little kitten and is a very sweet little ad. The longest ad (only 30 seconds though) is embedded below.

However, in true Michael Bay style he brings in the helicopters, huge explosions and a rocking soundtrack in an ad that must have cost a fortune! That said, it may have cost him nothing as it could just be a montage of all previous Michael Bay films!

Check it out below.
