Jean Luc-Godard said all you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun and now O2 have adapted this slightly to all you need to make a movie is an idea and a smartphone.

O2 Guru TV have recently launched their Six Degrees of Summer competition which consists of a short film comprising of three sections of three minutes, each made by an award-winning British director and all shot on a smartphone with the stipulation that they can only see the final moments of the preceding section.

And here’s how you can get in on the action…

The fourth film in the series of six will be directed by a member of the public and between 4th and 13th August 2012, you’ll be able to submit an idea for the fourth instalment on O2 Guru TV, and the winner, chosen for and mentored by BAFTA winner Tom Shankland, will create their own 3-minute mobile masterpiece.

Lots of our readers ask us how best to get started in the film industry and apart from the obvious advice of ‘don’t talk – go out and make films’, these competitions are a great way to get noticed.

Here’s the introduction video with all the details,
