World War Z

World War Z exceeded everyone’s expectations last year, both critically and commercially. Production problems saw it labelled a flop before it was even released, making it all the more surprising when it proved those people wrong and earned an impressive 0 million worldwide.

The sequel was admittedly plagued by reshoots and last-minute changes, while some sites even reported that star Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) had stopped speaking!

Regardless, things are looking up for the planned sequel as Oscar-nominated writer Steven Knight – who recently both wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Locke starring Tom Hardy – has now been hired by Paramount and Skydance to pen the World War Z sequel’s screenplay.

The currently untitled World War Z 2 will also see Brad Pitt return in a starring role.

J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) will direct the follow-up to the highest grossing movie in Pitt’s career, while the hiring of the Dirty Pretty Things scribe is possibly related to the recent announcement that Pitt was in talks to star in an untitled World War II romantic thriller, also written by Knight.

There are currently not plot details, although the World War Z sequel is expected to continue the story from Max Brooks’ popular novel. How do you guys feel about this news?
