J.J. Abrams has been doing another brilliant job of keeping things under wraps for Star Trek Into Darkness. The intrigue remains on high, even after seeing the first two trailers land before the end of last year.
We saw a great new featurette for the sequel arrive during the week. And as promised, we’ve got a brand new TV spot that Paramount have aired during the Super Bowl, coming our way via Apple.
The studio are also airing a new TV spot for World War Z, which they pre-released online during the week. And as you can imagine, it’s set to be another big year for them and their blockbusters.
“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”
The cast for the sequel is even more impressive, led by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, and Noel Clarke.
Abrams is directing from a script penned by co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and Damon Lindelof (Prometheus). So the script should be awesome.
Abrams has of course recently signed on to direct Star Wars Episode VII, and it will be interesting to see if he returns to this world beyond Star Trek Into Darkness in the years to come.
Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 17th May. Smart money says it’ll be one of the biggest films of the year, so be sure to commit that date to memory. For now, here’s the great new Super Bowl TV spot for Abrams’ latest venture into space. Enjoy.
