J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness is understandably set to be one of the biggest films of 2013, with an awesome level of hype surrounding the sequel to the 2009 reboot.
We caught the first announcement trailers just under a month ago, followed by the first teaser trailer just before Christmas. And now Paramount have released just under a dozen new images from the film.
“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”
The cast is even more awesome than the first film, headed up by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, and Noel Clarke.
Abrams is directing from a script penned by co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and Damon Lindelof (Prometheus), which makes for something of an unbeatable combination.
Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in regular and IMAX theatres in the UK and US on 17th May, which is definitely a date you’ll want to commit to memory. For now, here are the latest images from the film, which you can click through to enlarge.
