Spring-Breakers-UK-Quad-Poster-BlueHarmony Korine’s Spring Breakers can’t come fast enough, and I can’t wait to watch it again. Seeing all the trailers surface in recent months has reminded me how great its leading performances are, and now we’ve got a new featurette to share that has a few brilliant interview snippets.

Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine star as the young female quartet, with James Franco joining them in the male lead as the gangster/rapper, Alien.

Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper “Alien” promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.

Korine is once more directing from his own script, with Skrillex and Cliff Martinez (Drive, Contagion) collaborating to bring us the excellent Spring Breakers soundtrack.

In this latest featurette, Hudgens talks about the opportunity the film presents to show people a side of her talents beyond the Disney character we all remember from the High School Musical films. And she’s right. She is capable of a lot more than people tend to give her credit for, and her performance here is more than proof of that. Whilst Selena Gomez has perhaps been given the most attention, partly because of her age, and partly because of how clean her image has been, it’s Hudgens that truly goes above and beyond what you might previously have expected of her, with terrific results.

Spring Breakers will be starting its limited US release this Friday, 15th March, ahead of its wide US release date next week on 22nd March. Its UK release date is set for 5th April, and that’s definitely a date you’ll want to remember.
