Anne-Hathaway-and-Johnny-Flynn-in-Song-OneFollowing her Oscar-winning performance as Fantine in Les Misérables, Anne Hathaway will soon be returning to the world of music in Song One, announced this week as having its world premiere next month at Sundance 2014.

Not only does the actress star in front of the camera, she is also making her first feature credit as a producer, boarding the project at the start of the summer last year, when the Oscar buzz was already surrounding her ahead of the release of Les Mis.

With the initial line-up announced for the independent film festival, the first image of Hathaway and co-star Johnny Flynn has surfaced, teasing a look at Hathaway as Franny with Flynn’s musician, James Forester, who uses Franny and her brother as his inspiration.

Estranged from her family, Franny returns home when an accident leaves her brother comatose. Retracing his life as an aspiring musician, she tracks down his favorite musician, James Forester. Against the backdrop of Brooklyn’s music scene, Franny and James develop an unexpected relationship and face the realities of their lives.

Mary Steenburgen and Ben Rosenfield complete the leading cast alongside them.

Kate Barker-Froyland makes her feature directorial debut, directing from her own script. And Hathaway produces alongside past collaborator Jonathan Demme (Rachel Getting Married), as well as her real-life husband, Adam Shulman (Kinsey).

Song One will be making its debut, screening in competition, at Sundance 2014 next month. With any luck, it will be as good as we’re all hoping, earning a smooth road to wide distribution later in the year.
