Christopher-Meloni-in-Small-TimeWith two Emmys to his name for his work on 24, co-creator Joel Surnow makes his feature directorial debut this year with Small Time.

The movie sees him move into more dramatic territory, like his more recent work on the small screen with The Kennedys.

Anchor Bay has released the first trailer over on Apple, teasing a couple of great cameos for fans of 24 alongside leading man Christopher Meloni.

Inspired by a true story, Al Klein (Meloni) and his longtime friend, Ash Martini (Norris) own a used car lot. These two know every trick in the book when it comes to selling cars. Martini is a good time charley, who never settled down. Klein, however, still pines for his ex-wife Barbara (Moynahan) who left him years ago for a more successful man. After their son, Freddy (Bostick), graduates high school, he decides to forego college in favor of selling cars with his old man. Klein is thrilled when Freddy moves in with him—it’s the first time these two have lived under one roof since Freddy was kid. Barbara, on the other hand, is very far from thrilled. But what’s good for Klein might not be the best thing for Freddy, as Freddy quickly transforms from innocent young man into a seasoned car salesman… leaving Al with a tough decision to make.

Meloni is joined by Dean Norris, Devon Bostick, Bridget Moynahan, Amaury Nolasco, and Kevin Nealon, with appearances from Xander Berkeley and Carlo Rota.

Surnow is directing from his own script, making his feature debut as both writer and director.

Small Time will be released later in the year. Apple puts the release date at June 28th last year, but obviously that’s wrong, so we await further updates from Anchor Bay with an official release date for its stateside release.
