Simon Edgar

When Edgar Wright decided to part ways with Marvel Studios due to creative differences over Ant-Man, it was believed that his and Joe Cornish’s script would mostly remain intact, despite the rumoured rewrites which had resulted in Wright deciding to leave a project he had been attached to for over eight years.

However, when it was announced that Peyton Reed (Yes Man) had taken over directing duties, it was also revealed that Adam McKay (Anchorman) had been hired by Marvel to do a rewrite, meaning that we are unlikely to ever see a version of Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s Ant-Man on the big screen.

“I think it’s a terrible shame. I get why perhaps it’s happened. Maybe they want a particular thing in line with a particular other thing, but if you hire a director who has a particular vision, you’ve got to expect him or her to make a ‘such and such film’. ‘An Edgar Wright film.’ That’s what that script was and it was interesting. The characters had a real journey. I can’t really say too much about it because obviously it’s not my thing, but it’s their loss [Laughs].

Reading between the lines here, it definitely sounds as if Marvel had a very different idea about how to handle Ant-Man than Wright, and with rumours that The World’s End helmer wanted to make it a standalone piece, perhaps he simply didn’t want to make the movie part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

In related Simon Pegg news, it’s been rumoured that the actor was spotted on the Abu Dhabi set of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII shooting some secret scenes for the highly anticipated movie. This would reunite the duo after they worked together on both Mission Impossible 3 and both Star Trek movies.

However, that’s not the only drama going down on the Star Wars set! It was revealed last night that Harrison Ford (a.k.a. Han Solo) has fractured his ankle in London while shooting the movie. How did it happen? The door of the Millennium Falcon reportedly fell on him! Below is an artist’s representation (if you know who made this or indeed made it youself please let us know so we can give you the credit you deserve!)…
