Silent-Treatment-Quad-PosterSet to make its debut on the festival circuit later this year, Silent Treatment marks the first major short to be written and directed by Mark Lobatto.

The romantic short film stars rising young actress Lily James (Downton Abbey, Disney’s upcoming Cinderella) and Bart Edwards (EastEnders) in the leads, and we’ve had the first trailer sent over to share.

In a bleak, stagnant waiting area, where time stands still and odd characters sink with gloom, two strangers are compelled to connect.

The dialogue-free little tease sets the mood nicely, showing us the beginnings of the chemistry building between James’ and Edwards’ characters.

James was of course cast earlier in the year as the eponymous lead in Kenneth Branagh’s new take on Cinderella for Disney, and with Helena Bonham Carter, Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, and more starring alongside her, you can be sure that it’s set to be a career-changing film for the young James. Disney have recently set the film for release in March 2015, making James very much one to watch in the years to come.

Lobatto has worked on the likes of Wrath of the Titans and the Wachowski siblings’ incredibly anticipated Jupiter Ascending as assistant to the director/s, and it’s always nice to see new talent emerging from our shores. Here’s to hoping that the full short lives up to this great first trailer, and that we’ll have more of these and feature films to look forward to from Lobatto in the future.

As of yet, there’s no word on exactly when and where Silent Treatment will be making its debut. But you can head over to its Facebook to keep up to date on its festival appearances further down the line. In the meantime, here’s the first trailer for your viewing pleasure.
