RoboCop-Poster-sliceThe first trailer for José Padilha’s upcoming RoboCop set the tone nicely for what promises to be a slick sci-fi/actioner, and things have been looking good for the remake/reboot ever since.

More recently, Sony treated us to a pretty sweet IMAX poster at the end of last month. And with the blockbuster’s release just days away, the studio have released a new TV spot recalling the original’s tagline – Part Man, Part Machine – All Cop!

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

Joel Kinnaman leads the cast this time around, with Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Samuel L. Jackson rounding out a great ensemble.

Padilha (Elite Squad) directs from a script by Josh Zetumer and Nick Shenk (Gran Torino), with the director’s experience helming the Elite Squad movies sure to have come in handy in making the transition to a Hollywood blockbuster.

RoboCop will be released in regular and IMAX cinemas on 7th February in the UK, arriving a few days later in the US on February 12th, getting a two-day head start on the Valentine’s weekend.
