Riddick-IMAX-PosterThere’s just a few short days left before Riddick hits cinemas, and the anticipation for the third instalment in the franchise has been building nicely.

The adverts have been gracing buses and the Underground here in London, and all signs are pointing to a strong opening when the film arrives next week.

In the US, IMAX have released their latest IMAX FANFIX poster for the movie, which will be given out for free at participating cinemas for audiences attending the 8pm screening next Thursday, September 5th, ahead of the movie’s wide release in the US next Friday.

The print is created from original artwork by Alex Fuentes (a.k.a. Los Fokos), who’s worked on projects as diverse and far-reaching as Nike, Disney, Sony Music, and Coldplay. And alongside it, Universal have also released a new featurette, via Apple, going behind the scenes on the upcoming sci-fi/actioner.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Vin Diesel is of course front and centre once more, reprising his role as the eponymous anti-hero. And he stars alongside Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Nolan Gerard Funk, Keri Hilson, and WWE’s Dave Bautista, with Karl Urban reprising his role as Vaako from the first sequel.

David Twohy returns to the director’s chair once more, and he’s directing from his own script, with Diesel himself serving as producer.

Riddick will be released in regular and IMAX cinemas on 4th September here in the UK, with its US release date following on September 6th, after its early IMAX release on the eve of September 5th.
