Tom Cruise naysayers can at least take comfort that the rest of the cast earmarked for the adaptation of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novel, One Shot, are shaping up nicely and now another solid name has been added to the mix.

Venerable character actor Richard Jenkins (last seen on UK screens as Justin Timberlake’s Alzheimer’s-suffering father in Friends with Benefits) will join the likes of Rosamund Pike, Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ David Oyelowo and the aforementioned Top Gun star for the Christopher McQuarrie-directed crime thriller.

The story concerns veteran Child creation, Jack Reacher – a former military investigator who comes out of retirement to take on the case of a sniper accused of murdering five people. He soon realises all is not what it seems and the certainty of the man’s guilt ebbs away as he comes up with more than he bargained for.

The film isn’t due to hit cinema screens until February 2013, so expect more casting announcements to be revealed soon.
