21 Jump Street was an unexpected hit back in 2012, while the sequel has taken the box office by storm both in the UK and in North America this past weekend. Though directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller poked fun at potential sequels during the end credits, it’s undoubtedly one of Sony’s top franchises right now.

However, Let’s Be Cops looks like it has the potential to be a legitimate rival to the police focused cop comedy franchise, albeit in a very different way. Starring New Girl actors Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., the movie focuses on two friends who take fancy dress too far when they start masquerading as police.

As you might expect, hijinks ensue, and Let’s Be Cops looks like a whole lot of fun!

Let’s Be Cops was co-written and directed by Luke Greenfield (The Girl Next Door ), and also stars Rob Riggle, Nina Dobrev, James D’Arcy, Andy Garcia and Keegan-Michael Key. The movie is set to be released in the UK on August 27th. Do you think we could be looking at a legitimate Jump Street rival?

It’s the ultimate buddy cop movie except for one thing: they’re not cops. When two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted “heroes” get tangled in a real-life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line.
