Ant-Man

The Break-Up and Yes Man director Peyton Reed has been named as the frontrunner to direct Ant-Man according to a new report as they continue to search for a filmmaker to replace The World’s End helmer Edgar Wright after he parted ways over “creative differences” with Marvel Studios.

However, Role Models and Wanderlust director David Wain is also being considered, in part because of his working relationship with Paul Rudd. Sources claim that, “the single biggest thing Marvel is looking for is someone who can work with the talent already assembled.”

Reed may have the advantage though as he previously developed Fantastic Four for Twentieth Century Fox before Tim Story took over and developed two terrible movies based on the Marvel comic books.

Adam McKay, Ruben Fleischer and Rawson Marshall Thurber have all been named as being in contention to take over from Wright lately, but the latter two dropped out when Marvel offered Ant-Man to McKay and he was forced to turn the movie down due to commitments to other projects.

In related news, Michael Douglas (who will play Hank Pym in the movie) has shared his thoughts on Marvel and Edgar Wright parting ways, and it doesn’t sound like he’s too thrilled about it either!

“I was, very disappointed. I’m a big fan of his movies [and] it’s a very disappointing situation. [It] happened very late in the game. I don’t think anybody’s quite recovered. My heart goes out to Edgar. He’s been involved with the project for a long time, but he’s talented enough that you’ll be hearing a whole lot from him, and I’m sure with a little vengeance.”

Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Corey Stoll and Patrick Wilson, and is still on track to be released next July despite currently being without a director.
