Patrick-Stewart-and-Ian-McKellen-in-X2Bryan Singer officially returned to the director’s chair last month for X-Men: Days of Future Past, the latest instalment in the X-Men franchise, taking the helm from Matthew Vaughn after the 2011 reboot, X-Men: First Class.

Singer has now taken to Twitter to announce that not only will James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult be officially returning for the coming sequel, but Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are also joining the cast, having been so integral in the original trilogy.

“I’d like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, & Nicholas Hoult to #XMEN for #DaysOfFuturePast

Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @SirPatStew are joining the cast of #XMEN #DaysOfFuturePast #magneto #professorX More to come…”

With the plot details currently being kept under wraps, we’re not yet sure exactly how McKellen and Stewart will be involved, and to what extent – of course, McAvoy plays the younger version of Stewart and Fassbender the younger version of McKellen, and it’s going to be interesting to see how it all plays out on the big screen.

Singer adding that there’s ‘More to come…’ is exciting in itself, and here’s to hoping that that will be coming very soon.

Vaughn did a brilliant job rebooting the franchise and taking things back to an earlier time in the Universe with First Class, and with Singer now returning to the helm, it’s an incredibly exciting time for fans of the franchise.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is currently slated for release on 18th July, 2014, and we can’t wait to see the next instalment in the franchise. Before then, we also have The Wolverine to look forward to, which is set to hit the big screen on 25th July, 2013. More as we get it. (Hopefully very soon.)
