Paramount Set TMNT, Tom Cruise’s One Shot, and Brad Pitt’s World War Z Release Dates

Paramount have been doing a bit of shuffling to their upcoming release schedule, and have now set the release dates for three of the biggest films on their slate, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, One Shot, and World War Z.

Coming first will be Christopher McQuarrie’s One Shot, the adaptation of Lee Child’s novel in the Jack Reacher series, with Tom Cruise in the lead as Reacher. The film has been set for a 21^st December, 2012 release, which will see it up against Judd Apatow’s This Is 40, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, and Antoine Fuqua’s Hunter Killer.

It will also see it released in close proximity to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Les Misérables (on 14^th December), Kathryn Bigelow’s bin Laden film, Zero Dark Thirty (19^th December), and The Great Gatsby and Django Unchained (both on Christmas Day).

Next up will be Marc Forster’s World War Z, led by Brad Pitt, which has been pushed back from 21^st December (and replaced with One Shot) to 21^st June, 2013. This will see it going head-to-head with Monsters University (whilst the audiences are definitely different, the wide pull of the Monsters, Inc. sequel could make for some difficult competition). It also places it in between Zack Snyder’s Superman film, Man of Steel (14^th June), and Robert Schwenke’s R.I.P.D. (28^th June), led by Ryan Reynolds.

And finally, the live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film! (I’m very much intrigued to see how it turns out.) Paramount have set the film’s release for Christmas Day, 2013. As it stands, that will see it near to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (20^th December) and The Hobbit: There and Back Again (13^th December), though undoubtedly more films will be set alongside it before then too.

The film is to be directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, the upcoming Wrath of the Titans) and co-written by Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol).

These dates are officially only for the US, but they should give us a rough indication of when we can expect to see them here in the UK too.
