Charlie-Day-and-Jason-Sudeikis-on-Saturday-Night-LiveAfter topping the box office last month with Identity Thief, Seth Gordon is returning to the fold for Universal to direct One Night on the Hudson, and he’s bringing along two brilliantly familiar faces to make it happen.

Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day worked with Gordon back on 2010’s Horrible Bosses. And having just signed on for Horrible Bosses 2 (alongside Jason Bateman, of course), Sudeikis and Day will be reuniting with Gordon for One Night on the Hudson, THR report.

“The story revolves around a by-the-books rookie cop on his first night on the job and his jaded veteran partner. The pair are tasked with transporting a federal witness from New Jersey to Manhattan. The only things standing between them: dirty cops, dirty criminals and the Hudson River.”

The film is described as a comedy-thriller, and I can’t wait to see what Gordon brings to the table here. We know how great he is with comedy – Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief are proof enough of this, as will be Horrible Bosses 2 – and the added blend of thriller should be interesting to see.

Universal acquired the spec script penned by T.J. Fixman, which first made the rounds two years ago, but failed to gain traction. Fixman has a number of video games under his belt, and will be making his feature debut as a film writer here.

The premise sounds like it has so much potential, and I can’t wait to see Sudeikis and Day in action opposite each other once more. Horrible Bosses is by far one of the best comedies in recent years, and I think there’s a very good chance to One Night on the Hudson will stand to be the same.

There’s no word yet on when we can expect the film to begin production. Horrible Bosses 2 is expected to shoot late this summer, and if things move (albeit, very) quickly for One Night on the Hudson, it’s possible it could get in front of lenses before Bosses, and be out in cinemas for Universal next year as well. Perhaps more likely is a shoot after the Horrible Bosses sequel, but either way, I’m rooting for a 2014 release date. Here’s to hoping we hear a lot more on this soon.
