It is impossible to write anything regarding this project and not mention Alec Guinness, whose presence in the BBC adaptation was something truly special , and this new film version, which is being directed by Let The Right One In’s Thomas Alfredson, needs to have a pretty impressive cast to establish a new identity.

Just as well then that the following names have been confirmed for the film. Colin Firth, Gary Oldman, Ralph Fiennes and Michael Fassbender have apparently all signed on to bring forth LeCarre’s famous story of one George Smiley (the role Oldman is supposed to have been chosen for) and I for one am glad to see Colin Firth’s continued diversion from the soul crushing rom-coms of his recent past.
