The-Last-Stand-PosterArnold Schwarzenegger returns to the big screen for his first leading role in years next month in The Last Stand.

The action blockbuster sees acclaimed South Korean director Kim Jee-woon (The Good, The Bad, The Weird) take the helm, and with Arnie in the lead, it’s sure to set the box office alight in a month’s time.

We saw a new 60-second trailer hit last week, and now Lionsgate have released a new UK TV spot, packed full with action.

“Sheriff Owens is a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for one of the most daring face offs in cinema history.”

Schwarzenegger stars alongside an impressive cast, headed up by Johnny Knoxville, Genesis Rodriguez, Forest Whitaker, Rodrigo Santoro, Luis Guzmán, Harry Dean Stanton, Peter Stormare, and the excellent Jaimie Alexander.

Kim is directing from a script by newcomer Andrew Knauer, with Grieg Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau, The Bourne Ultimatum) serving as script supervisor, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, RED) producing.

The Last Stand will be hitting the big screen in the US on 18th January, with its UK release date now set a day earlier than expected, on 24th January. For now, here’s the new TV spot. Enjoy.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
