Skyfall US PosterSam Mendes’ Skyfall has been breaking records since its release at the end of last month here in the UK, taking an impressive £20.1m. in its first three days, the all-time highest opening weekend for a 2D film, and second only to Harry Potter’s final 3D instalment.

Its US release is finally going wide tomorrow, with IMAX theatres getting the film a day early today, and after catching a handful of new images of Daniel Craig earlier in the week, Sony have released a new twenty-second TV spot.

“In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”

Craig takes the lead alongside an all-star cast, headed up by Javier Bardem, Bérénice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace, and Dame Judi Dench.

Mendes, the Oscar-winning director of American Beauty, is making his Bond debut behind the camera, with a script penned by Bond frequents Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, and the ever-brilliant John Logan (Gladiator, Coriolanus).

The early reviews were more than promising – you can read our review here – and with audiences around the world turning out to see James Bond in action, it looks like they love the film as much as the critics do. What now remains is to see how the US embraces it.

Skyfall is currently playing in UK cinemas, and is released in US IMAX theatres today, before going on wide release tomorrow, 9th November. In case you need any encouraging, here’s the latest TV spot to get you in the mood. Enjoy.
