Zero-Dark-Thirty-Japanese-PosterKathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty has been lauded with critics’ praise in recent weeks, earning four Golden Globe nominations, and coming in as a strong contender for the upcoming Oscar race.

The film has already been given a limited, Oscar-qualifying release in the US, and with an impressive opening behind it, it will soon be going wide in the States and arrive here in the UK as well.

We recently saw the final US trailer a couple of weeks back, and now a new Japanese poster has surfaced online ahead of its release in Japan in February.

“The upcoming true-life drama “Zero Dark Thirty” details the decade-long global hunt for Osama bin Laden, and in this exclusive in-theater banner, you get a satellite view of his secret compound in Pakistan. Two Black Hawk helicopters are seen approaching the fortified compound in the moments before Navy SEALs carried out the raid that lead to bin Laden’s death. The movie from the Oscar-winning writer and director of “The Hurt Locker,” will hit theaters on December 19.”

Jessica Chastain has been lauded for her leading performance – which will almost certainly see her through to a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars next month – and she stars alongside a fantastic cast, headed up by Mark Strong, Joel Edgerton, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, James Gandolfini, Scott Adkins, Jennifer Ehle, Chris Pratt, Édgar Ramirez, Frank Grillo, Nash Edgerton, and Mark Duplass, with Ricky Sekhon taking the role of bin Laden himself.

Bigelow is once more directing from a script by Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker), with the two producing alongside the brilliant Megan Ellison (True Grit, The Master, Lawless).

Stefan has already seen the film and thought it was near-perfect – you can read our review here – and it looks like it’s going to be a very safe choice whenever it arrives in your local theatre.

Zero Dark Thirty is already playing in selected US theatres, and will be opening wide in the US on 11th January. Its UK release date is set slightly later, with it arriving on 25th January, but it definitely looks well worth the wait. For now, here’s the latest poster, which you can click through to enlarge.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
