After coming away from Sundance this year with two awards, taking the Audience Award and jointly winning the Special Jury Prize alongside Smashed, The Sessions has continued its festival circuit over the past month, and will be released in US theatres next Friday.
“Academy Award® nominee John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone) stars in this funny and touching comedy-drama about a childhood polio survivor — now in his thirties and permanently confined to an iron lung — who hires a professional sex surrogate (Academy Award® winner Helen Hunt) to help him lose his virginity.”
Led by John Hawkes and Helen Hunt, the film is based on the autobiographical writings of journalist-poet Mark O’Brien.
Ben Lewin (Lucky Break) is behind the camera, directing from his own script, with William H. Macy, Moon Bloodgood, Annika Marks, and W. Earl Brown completing the cast.
The Sessions, previously titled The Surrogate, will be released in the US on 19th October, before arriving in the UK a little later on 18th January, 2013, after screening here this month as part of the BFI London Film Festival (the tickets for which are still on sale, should you like to see the film early). For now, here are the new images, which you can click to enlarge.
