John Hillcoat’s Lawless is one of the most anticipated films still to come this year, debuting to brilliant reviews at Cannes back in May – you can read our own review here.
We got a great little TV spot last week, and now a new featurette has debuted over at Yahoo Movies, giving us a look at the story behind the film.
“LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.”
Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf lead an all-star cast, and are joined by the awesome likes of Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska, Jason Clarke, and Dane DeHaan.
Hillcoat is directing once more from a script by Nick Cave, who adapts the original novel by Matt Bondurant, The Wettest County in the World, which was previously to be the film’s name.
Lawless will be released by The Weinstein Company on 29th August in the US, followed by a 7th September release here in the UK. We can’t wait. It looks immense, and could well be heading for an awards campaign for the start of next year.
