With Lionsgate’s adaptation of The Hunger Games finally getting its release this Friday – or Thursday if you’re catching an advanced preview – we’re into our final stretch of what has been an impressive promotional campaign.
And just ahead of its release this weekend, we now have a new clip to share with you, featuring Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen and Liam Hemsworth’s Gale Hawthorne. Just in case you’re waiting until seeing it in cinemas to find out what happens, I’ll simply leave you with the clip and not a description of it.
Gary Ross sits behind the camera for the first adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ original trilogy of novels, with a brilliant cast including Lawrence, Hemsworth, Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Wes Bentley, Lenny Kravitz, Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci, Isabelle Fuhrman, Willow Shields, and Amandla Stenberg.
“In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.”
Recent tracking numbers for the US suggest that it has the potential to surpass the latest Twilight instalment, Breaking Dawn – Part 1, with a box office opening of more than $138.1m. this weekend, with conservative estimates sitting around the $100-120m. mark.
As you’re no doubt already well aware, The Hunger Games will open in cinemas this Friday (with early screenings the evening before), 23rd March here in the UK and across the Atlantic. Until then, here’s the new clip of Katniss and Gale for your viewing pleasure. And for all the rest of our coverage of the film so far, just click right here.
