Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The West Wing), one of the finest writers in recent decades for both the big and small screen, returns to television this year with The Newsroom, one of the most anticipated new programmes of the year.
Airing on HBO over in the States, the first episode of the season made its debut on Sunday night, and now HBO have uploaded the full pilot episode, We Just Decided To.
““The Newsroom” is a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make a nightly cable-news program. Focusing on a network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and their boss (Sam Waterston), the series tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles-not to mention their own personal entanglements.”
Jeff Daniels is front and centre, with support from Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn, John Gallagher, Jr., Thomas Sadoski, and Sam Waterston.
Anything Sorkin has a hand in writing is and always will be essential viewing, and The Newsroom is no different. It’s sure to be one of the best programmes of the year, and if all goes well, here’s to hoping it will continue for years to come.
The Newsroom is now underway on HBO in the US as of Sunday night, with a great reception from fans and critics alike. Here in the UK, you’ll need to be a Sky Atlantic subscriber to keep watching beyond this first episode – you have until Tuesday, 10th July to sign up, because that’s when everything will kick off. For now, the full pilot episode to see what you have to look forward to. Enjoy.
