Mr.-Peabody-&-ShermanWhen you have Ty Burrell voicing the canine lead in Mr. Peabody & Sherman, it’s easy to see why everyone’s excited for DreamWorks’ next animated blockbuster.

Burrell, the Emmy-winning actor behind Modern Family’s Phil Dunphy, is joined by the young Max Charles, who plays Mr. Peabody’s adopted ‘pet’ boy, Sherman. And after the studio released some great first images earlier in the week, they’ve now launched the first trailer over on Apple, giving us a great first look at what’s to come.

Mr. Peabody, the most accomplished dog in the world, and his mischievous boy Sherman, use their time machine—the Wabac—to go on the most outrageous adventures known to man or dog. But when Sherman takes the Wabac out for a joyride to impress his friend Penny, they accidently rip a hole in the universe, wreaking havoc on the most important events in world history. Before they forever alter the past, present and future, Mr. Peabody must come to their rescue, ultimately facing the most daunting challenge of any era: figuring out how to be a parent. Together, the time-traveling trio will make their mark on history.

Burrell and Charles are joined by a stellar voice cast, led by Stephen Colbert, Ellie Kemper, Ariel Winter, Allison Janney, Stephen Tobolowsky, Mel Brooks, Leslie Mann, and Stanley Tucci.

Ty Burrell and Stephen Colbert? Oh yes, I think so.

Rob Minkoff (The Lion King) is directing from a script penned by Craig Wright (Six Feet Under, Lost), with the original characters coming from The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman will be released in 3D on 7th February, 2014 in the UK, with its US release date following a few weeks later on March 7th. For now, here’s the brilliant first trailer as we head into the weekend. Enjoy.
