Brad Pitt takes the lead in Marc Forster’s adaptation of Max Brooks’ modern classic World War Z.
The previous trailers have cast this film very much in the I am Legend/War of the Worlds mould of a family man against the world gone wrong. This new TV spot plays on the family in peril angle, increasing the menace slowly until hell bursts and CG-hordes ride buses as they tumble on their side, undead-related explosions erupt in well-known locations. Those zombie pyramids are present and correct too.
It looks nuts, and I’m still not sure how they have crafted a film from Brooks’ celebrated source, the multi-stranded, multi-voiced narrative looks to have been the first casualty of the adaptation, but perhaps they are selling us only a small part of the big picture.
