Michael Bay has been one of a handful of directors consistently trusted with massive budgets throughout his immensely successful career, but his next feature will see him returning to the m. ball-park figure of his debut, Bad Boys.

Bay has been wanting to make Pain and Gain for some time now, and agreed with Paramount to go back behind the camera for Transformers 4 in exchange for funding his passion project.

Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson are the impressive leading duo, and now Paramount have put out the first teaser poster for the film, with THR reporting that the studio have set the release date for the film as 26th April, 2013, which should make for an excellent way to head into the blockbusters hitting the big screen from May through the summer.

“Based on a Miami New Times article from 1999, “Pain and Gain” will follow a pair of Florida bodybuilders who get caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping scheme that goes terribly wrong.”

Bay is directing from a script penned by writing duo Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The First Avenger), based on an original article by Pete Collins.

And starring alongside Wahlberg and Johnson will be Anthony Mackie, Ed Harris, Rob Corddry, Ken Jeong, Rebel Wilson, and Tony Shalhoub.

Pain and Gain is now set for release on 26th April, 2013, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what Bay brings us with his return to the big screen, with a more modest budget, and with Wahlberg and Johnson as his leading men. For now, here’s the first teaser poster for the film, which you can click to enlarge.. With its release now set for April, we’ll hopefully be catching the official poster and the first trailer very soon.
