Superior

After directing Kick-Ass and this October’s The Secret Service starring Colin Firth and Samuel L. Jackson, Matthew Vaughn looks set to bring another Mark Millar (The Ultimates, Wanted) comic book to the big screen. However, he’ll initially serve as a producer, and there is currently no word on a writer or director.

Twentieth Century Fox are now on the hunt for a writer however according to The Hollywood Reporter, and it joins the likes of Nemesis, Starlight and American Jesus, all of which are just a few of the Millarworld projects in development for film and TV.

Written by Mark Millar with artwork from Leinil Yu (Secret Invasion, New Avengers), Superior tells the story of an athletic 12-year-old boy who loses his social life when he is stricken by multiple sclerosis. One night, an alien monkey grants the boy one wish and he chooses to become his favourite superhero, a Superman-like character named Superior.

However, there’s a twist, and what follows is an action-packed and shocking tale which received unanimous acclaim from critics when the comic book series was released back in 2010.

Matthew Vaughn seems like the perfect choice for director, but it’s worth noting that he’s also helping to develop a number of other Mark Millar comic books for live-action, so his role as producer here doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll end up helming Superior. Of course, he did choose The Secret Service over X-Men: Days of Future Past, so we’ll have to wait and see!
