With Iron Man 3 topping box offices around the world, Marvel’s Phase Two has got off to a brilliant start this year, bringing us the first billion-dollar blockbuster of the year. Whilst we continue to look forward to Thor: The Dark World, and everything else between here and The Avengers 2, we naturally can’t help but keep an eye on the future for Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man will be kicking the new phase off in November 2015, as the first movie following Joss Whedon’s The Avengers 2.
And a little over a week ago, Disney announced that they’d set two new release dates for untitled Marvel films, coming in on May 6th, 2016 and May 5th, 2017.
Now the studio are reporting that they’ve set a third untitled Marvel film for release on July 8th, 2016, just two months after what we presume will be the second movie in Phase Three.
As you can imagine, there’s no indication at all about what exactly these movies are. Kevin Feige has of course spoken previously of the possibility of exploring new characters like Doctor Strange and Black Panther in Phase Three, so there’s a good chance that at least one of these untitled movies will turn out to be a new character.
But there is, of course, every chance that they could be a sequel to one of the franchises already set up at the studio – Thor 3 or Captain America 3, perhaps, or quite possibly Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
For the time being, we can only speculate, which is naturally half the fun; imagining what awesome things Marvel will be bringing our way come 2016 and beyond. You know it’s going to be awesome, and here’s to hoping that these as-yet-unrevealed projects won’t stay that way for long.
On top of that, Disney have also set a March 13th, 2015 release date for Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella. Branagh’s take on the classic character sees Lily James take the eponymous lead, with Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden, Helena Bonham Carter, Sophie McShera, and Holliday Grainger starring alongside her.
With Comic-Con on the horizon next month in the US, there’s a very good chance that we’ll find out more on these untitled movies soon. In case you need any reminding, here’s what the current Marvel slate looks like:
