Maniac-UK-Quad-PosterElijah Wood returns to the horror genre that we love him for this spring in Maniac, the remake of the 1980 slasher of the same name.

The film debuted at Cannes last year and spent much of 2012 on the festival circuit, building up some very positive buzz ahead of its release this year. We saw a great new UK quad poster earlier in the month, and now Metrodome have released the UK trailer for our viewing pleasure.

“Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt.

Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.”

Starring alongside Wood is Nora Arnezeder, who recently starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in Safe House, and whose performance in Maniac has been well received in early reviews alongside that of Wood.

Franck Khalfoun (P2) is behind the camera, directing from a script co-written by past collaborators Alexandre Aja and Grégory Lavesseur (Switchblade Romance), with whom he co-wrote the script on P2, and newcomer C.A. Rosenberg.

Maniac will be released in the UK on 15th March. Still no word yet on a US release date, but IFC Midnight have the distribution rights, and we can hopefully expect its release in the coming months. For now, here’s the new trailer to get you in the mood. I love that last shout from Wood that it leaves us with.

As you can imagine, this video’s fairly littered with blood and the like, so may not be entirely suitable for work.
