Abbey Road Studios is famous for so many reasons whether that’s The Beatles, Pink Floyd or one of the other multitudes of music artists that have recorded there. For me, Abbey Road is a magical place as it’s where so many of my favourite film scores have been recorded. Just some of those include the five most recent Star Wars movies, The Lord of the Rings and more recently the Harry Potter movies and Skyfall. I was lucky enough to be invited to arguably the most famous recording studio in the world by Bowers & Wilkins who have been stocking the studio with state of the art speakers for the last 30 odd years. Not only did we get a guided tour around the studio (and get to press a few keys on the half dozen half million pound pianos that they have there), but we got to hear a unique project that Bowers have conducted with car manufacturer Maserati.
The Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli come with the audio system as an optional extra and it was the idea of legendary DJ and music producer Howie B to see if he could create some music to showcase not only the Bowers speakers but also to show how these ‘musical’ cars could create their own melodies. By using rolling roads a Maserati Quattroporte and adding more microphones than they could count, Howie B was able to create a sound unlike anything I’ve heard before and you can listen to the finished products below. From the engine, they were able to create what they have determined as seven musical notes and have cleverly called this project Seven Notes (find out more about it here sevennotes.com). Mixing the final product at Abbey Road using these amazing speakers (that cost more than I could ever afford), they were able to create something rather unique and very clever and then adding the final element in the form of based band ‘All We Are’, they have a very clever project that has worked better than they ever thought it could.
First we have ‘Note One’ which was the first track they created, followed by ‘Note 2’ which as a much more Spanish flavour and then my personal favourite, the ‘Note One (RPM Remix)’.
