Starring Amanda Seyfried in the eponymous role, Lovelace debuted at Sundance at the start of the year to very promising early reviews, with Seyfried’s performance especially attracting attention out in Park City.
Following the new posters we saw for the film last week, Lionsgate have released a rather racy, red-band first trailer, that gives us a look at the ’70s-set biographical drama.

In 1972—long before the Internet porn explosion of today—Deep Throat became a cultural phenomenon. As the first pornographic feature film to be embraced by mainstream audiences, Deep Throat took a multitude of risks: it boasted a plot, humor, and an unknown and unlikely star named Linda Lovelace.
Lovelace tells the story behind the phenomenon. Fleeing her strict religious family, Linda Boreman falls for charismatic hustler Chuck Traynor, who launches her pornography career. Reborn as “Linda Lovelace,” the charming girl next door skyrockets to international sensation with her uncanny capacity for fellatio. Fully inhabiting this new identity, Linda becomes a spokesperson for sexual freedom and hedonism. But six years later, she reveals a far more sinister narrative—the dark secrets of her own life story.
Seyfried takes the lead as Linda Boreman (better known by her stage name, Linda Lovelace) opposite Peter Sarsgaard as Chuck Traynor. And starring alongside the two are Hank Azaria, Adam Brody, James Franco, Sharon Stone, Wes Bentley, Bobby Cannavale, Debi Mazar, Robert Patrick, Chris Noth, Eric Roberts, Chloë Sevigny, and Juno Temple.
Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (Howl) are behind the camera, directing from a script written by Andy Bellin (Trust).
Lovelace will be released in the US on August 9th, with its UK release date following shortly after on 23rd August. For now, here’s the international first trailer, along with a reminder that it’s a little racy, and somewhat unsuitable for work.
