It’s on record more than once than I loved Let the Right One In.

The Swedish vampire film had a weighty soul and some outstandingly creepy and dark themes underneath the melancholy mixture of understatement and sudden violence.

It’s one of the few films I recommend to everyone, regardless of their taste because I know it will make an impression.

So, here then is the first trailer for Matt Reeves’ English language adaptation of the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and sadly it seems to rely on the standard horror beats, this is surely to broaden the appeal as not everyone will be aware of the Swedish version, much less its subject matter.

But it does point to a far better version than we were expecting.

It’s hard to watch without recalling the moments from Tomas Alfredson’s film, and though I love everything Chloe Moretz has done, and thought Kodi Smit-McPhee did a decent job on The Road it is in the hands of Matt Reeves, whose ‘director of Cloverfield’ title may do this film more harm than good, to see if he can create a film with its own identity, rather than be a shadow of another version.

Here’s the trailer.
