Snow White and the Huntsman will be kicking off the summer box office in style this weekend, with the film opening today in the UK ahead of its release this Friday in the States. We’ve already seen plenty from the film to assure us of it being an epic fantasy adventure – and you can read our review of the film here in case you weren’t already convinced.

A lot of the interest surrounding Universal’s take on the fairy tale has been Kristen Stewart stepping brilliantly into the role of the Joan of Arc-esque heroine, and now Apple have released a great new featurette that gives us a look at Stewart doing exactly that.

And be sure to check back in this afternoon for our interview with Snow White / Stewart, herself.

Alongside her will of course be a fantastic cast, including Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, Charlize Theron as the formidable evil Queen Ravenna, and Sam Claflin, Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Bob Hoskins, and Lily Cole.

“In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar(r) winner Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power. The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.”

Rupert Sanders looks to be making a very, very impressive directorial debut here, working from a script co-written by Hossein Amini (Drive) and Evan Daugherty, who also makes his debut.

Men In Black III finally unseated The Avengers at the box office in the US this past weekend, but things are looking good for Hemsworth to be back on top once more (albeit in a different role and film), and I’m really hoping this will be going straight to the top spot across the Atlantic.

Here in the UK, Friday sees the return of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, which has already been breaking records with its IMAX pre-sales, so the fight to the #1 position here could be a hard one, but Universal’s blockbuster has a two-day head-start, getting its release today.

Snow White and the Huntsman is in cinemas right now if you’re reading this in the UK, getting its release two days early for a 30th May release, ahead of its release this Friday in the US on 1st June. Here’s the great new featurette to give you a taste of the awesomeness to expect.
